IPOB is not a terrorist organistaion - Ooni of Ife

Ooni ‘renames’ IPOB, says Biafra agitators are not terrorists
Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the ooni of Ife, has referred to the Biafra group led by Nnamdi Kanu as the Indigenous People of Brighter Nigeria (IPOBN).

He said this on Friday when he paid a courtesy visit to Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia state.
The monarch expressed disapproval with the proscription of the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying members of the group should not be regarded as terrorists.
Ogunwusi said the youth, who were involved in the agitation were justified in asking for justice and equity.
The king visited the state to celebrate the new yam festival with Eberechi Dick, chairman of the south-east council of traditional rulers.

“There is something that is bordering them; there is something that is making them to cry,” he said.
“We should not throw them away; we should draw them closer because the youth of this country are the future, the energy, they are the heartbeat of this country.”
He said their energy could be tapped and channeled to build a better Nigeria.

Ogunwusi called for proper re-orientation in order to make young people drop negative tendencies.
Backing the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on restructuring, Ogunwusi said the Yoruba share the same view on the way forward for a better and all-inclusive Nigeria.
“We must chart the course of doing things with positive energy. I want to let you know that you are not alone in this,” he said.
“We stand by you positively in a very progressive manner. We stand by you; we all must come together to build a united Nigeria. We don’t want any war; we don’t want any disintegration.”

Ikpeazu said he was honoured to host the revered traditional ruler. He praised the ooni for “being in tune with national issues and making positive contributions for national rebirth”.
”I am a firm believer that this country is strong today because of its diversity,” he said.
“The problem confronting Nigeria remains the inability to harness the potentials and weld together the diversities to create a strong, united country.” - Cable Nigeria

Briton facing jail in Dubai for touching man in bar

Another British man is facing a three-year jail sentence in Dubai after putting his hand on a man in a bar so he did not "bump and spill drinks", according to his representatives as reported by Evening Standard.

A Campaign group Detained in Dubai said Jamie Harron, from Stirling, in Scotland was arrested for public indecency after touching a man on his hip.

Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, said: "It is quite outrageous that he has been held in the country for so long already.
"This is another example of how vulnerable tourists are to arrest and detention in Dubai and at how drawn out and disorganised legal proceedings are."

The 27-year-old electrician is said to have been holding a drink, moving through a crowded bar, and held a hand in front of him to avoid spilling it on himself or others.
The man is said to have since lost his job and has spent more than £30,000 in expenses and legal fees, having already been stuck there for three months.

He then "touched a man on his hip to avoid impact".
The organisation claims it was only after Mr Harron and his friend sat at a table that the man who had been touched seemed aggravated.
Police arrived at the scene "20 to 30" minutes later and arrested Mr Harron, according to his representatives.

Mr Harron is said to have been locked up for five days in Al Barsha prison, before being released after bail with his passport confiscated.
Ms Stirling added: "I have spoken to Jamie today who is under immense pressure and stress. He was expecting to appear in court this Sunday, but the court moved the date without telling him or his lawyer.

"This led to a sentence of 30 days' imprisonment for failing to present himself at the hearing."
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: "We have been in contact with a British man following his arrest in Dubai in July. We are providing consular assistance."

After the alleged event at the Rock Bottom Bar, the man's charges are said to be twofold - drinking alcohol and public indecency.

Man tells court to dissolve marriage over theft and infidelity

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Friday dissolved an eight year-old- marriage between one Temitope Osunbote and her husband, Elijah, over infidelity.

Temitope was awarded custody of the two children produced by the union, while Elijah is directed to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N8,000 for the upkeep of the children.
“This is in addition to being responsible for their education and other welfare needs,” the judge said.

The woman, a resident of Imalefalafia area of Ibadan, had earlier told the court her husband is a womaniser who had no regard for the sacredness of the marriage institution.
She said, “My Lord, Elijah is deeply engrossed in infidelity because he brings his concubines to our matrimonial home every now then and even takes them to our matrimonial bed without any respect for me.

“Besides, Elijah often beats me at the slightest mistake.
“In fact, he is too troublesome and highly irresponsible.
“That is a part of what I have been facing in addition to frequently starving the children and me.
“There is no more love between Elijah and I. Please, separate us.”

Her husband, who consented to the marriage dissolution, denied all the allegations leveled against him.
He told the court, “Temitope is a thief and can also never be trusted for a moment as I have noticed that she has been sleeping with different men in my house.
“With my experience as a computer engineer, I installed a camera to monitor her activities while I am away and that monitoring device revealed her unfaithfulness to me.
“I have been paying the children’s school fees regularly till date.

“I no longer have any feelings for her.”

The court's president, Ademola Odunade held that the couple had refused to be pacified and consequently terminated the union.

Update ! Billionaire kidnapper: I work for Evans because of my long suffering – Civil Engineering graduate

Linus Opara, a 53 -year-old suspected robber and kidnapper, has said he did not know how billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwumadike a.k.a Evans lured him into his gang.

The man, who claimed to be a graduate of civil engineering, disclosed that he was an informant for Evans and his gang.

Opara said this at the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command in GRA, Ikeja Lagos.
He said his role was to monitor victims while Evans paid him any amount he felt like for services rendered.

The informant, who was arrested at about 9pm on July 20, 2017 at his house in Igando, Lagos, claimed he was introduced to Evans by a late member of the gang identified as Doctor.

He said: ”Do not look at my white hair; it is not as a result of old age. Rather, my hair turned white because of long suffering after my graduation as a civil engineer from the University of Ibadan. It is still a surprise to me how an illiterate person like Evans was able to lure me into kidnapping and all his illicit business.
”I studied Civil Engineering in the University of Ibadan. I am married with four children and they are still schooling. My wife is a graduate of Accountancy from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), but she has not secured work till date.

“I am not anything to Evans. We only address him as chairman and sometimes as president of group of companies. I was arrested and taken to the State Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) building in Ikeja on 20th July, 2017.
“I saw Evans for the first time the day I supplied a nutrition supplement because I am a distributor. The second time I met Evans was when policemen took me from their cell to an unknown place in Lagos, because I was blindfolded. I could not see where they were taking me to.

”It was when they took me to Evans that they removed the blindfold and I saw him. I addressed him as Nwachinemelu. Police were asking both of us questions and I was answering accordingly.
“They asked me how many times I worked for Evans and I said two times, and that I turned him down the third time that he asked me to do another job. I told the police that I monitored victims for him and he paid me. I did not know the names of the victims.

”During the first work I did for him, he sent a motorcycle rider to meet me at Olowola Bus Stop. He gave my phone number to him and he called me. When I met him, I asked him where he was taking me to. He said he was taking me to Trade Fair area. So I entered (sic) his motorcycle and he took me to under the bridge at Trade Fair.
”He drove (rode) towards Mile 2 area. Evans called me and asked where we were and I told him. But he asked me to go home; that I had done well.

“When we reached Alakija, I told him and he said I should not worry myself; that he had told others to allow me to go to my house. When he called again, he asked me to send my bank account number to him. I sent my First Bank account number to him and he wired the sum of N2 million to my account. I was surprised.
”The second time, it was the same process as he already had my bank account number. He sent me the sum of N700,000.

“When he called me for the third job, I told him that I was not interested, because I started sensing some errors in the business, like getting afraid for the kind of money he was giving me. The money he was giving me in the twinkle of an eye was bigger than the money I used to make in a whole year as a civil engineer.”

Before his arrest said he operated a company, Linok Construction Company located at No. 3 Umezinne Street, off Saint Peters Street, Alaba, Lagos.
