See the Iranian student who looks more like Lionel Messi than Lionel Messi himself

Argentina football star, Lionel Messi is universally acknowledged as one of the world's greatest footballers.

With his incredibly high profile career and his alleged penchant for a bit of offshore tax diddling, he's also one of the sport's most recognisable faces.

Which could be problematic if you look exactly the same as him, like Iranian student Reza Parastesh.

Lionel Messi's young doppelgänger looks so like the Argentinean forward that he almost ended up in prison for disrupting public order.

He was mobbed in the western city of Hamedan by Messi fans desperate for a selfie.

Even Eurosport UK reportedly used his photo by accident when referring to Messi.

Parastesh has his football-mad father to blame for his newfound fame, when he pressured his son into posing in a number 10 Barcelona jersey.

He sent the pictures to a sports website, who immediately asked him to come in for an interview.

Parastesh is now booked up with interviews and modelling contracts, and has begun to style his hair like Messi and wear the Barca shirt in public.

Parastesh even suggests that he might be of use to Messi himself in future. He's quoted as saying:
"Being the best player in footballing history, he definitely has more work than he can handle. I could be his representative when he is too busy."

The student is also a great lover of football, and is very much settled into his new role.
Now people really see me as the Iranian Messi and want me to mimic everything he does.

When I show up somewhere, people are really shocked.
I’m really happy that seeing me makes them happy and this happiness gives me a lot of energy.

Indian girl was forced to remove her bra to take an exam because country is the world’s cheating capital

Hard times call for tough measures, but tough measures also often result in collateral damage.

For years, India’s education boards have been grappling with the issue of cheating during examinations. To tackle the malpractice, often seen on a large scale across the country, these boards have of late issued strict dress codes. But these diktats also unfairly put innocent students in serious trouble.

For instance, in the run-up to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for dental and medical colleges, the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) strict dress code barred clothes of dark colour and long sleeves, besides brooches, badges, closed shoes and socks. Following a series of embarrassing cheating scandals, all these were seen as potential hiding spots for cheating material and tiny communication devices.

Yet many of the over 1.1 million students who arrived at their test centres across the country on May 07 weren’t prepared for such measures. Students in states such as Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala had to rip off their sleeves or change out of their jeans to just enter the exam centres.

One girl in Kerala’s Kannur district reportedly even had to take off her bra minutes before writing an important and potentially life-changing examination.

First, the 18-year-old struggled to find an open clothing store early on a Sunday morning as she had to change her black pants. Then, as she entered the exam centre, the metal hooks on her bra set off the metal detector.

“I told them that it was my bra-strap that had a metal hook on it, but they refused to let me in. They insisted that I remove it. Although I argued with them that the rules (do) not mention anything about innerwear, they refused to hear my pleas,” she told The News Minute. The girl eventually had to take her bra off and hand it over to her mother who was waiting outside.

“As I entered the exam hall to write the test, I had little confidence left in me,” she added.
While authorities at the exam centre denied that any such incident took place, they admitted that they were bound by rules. “We have clear instructions that if a metal detector beeps, no one should be allowed inside,” the principal of the school that was the exam centre told NDTV.

Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, authorities provided half-sleeved t-shirts to those who needed to change; in other centres students wrote the exam barefooted. Many girls had to take off their earrings and nose studs.

These guidelines were issued in July 2015 after India’s supreme court asked the CBSE to re-administer the exam following the discovery of a mass cheating scandal in which over 700 students allegedly received help through listening devices placed inside specially-designed vests. In some regions of the country, the kin of those appearing for tests often even climb up several stories of the exam centres to pass on answers or study material.

Such scandals, alongside the leaking of exam papers, have become almost commonplace in India where students are often forced to prioritise success at any cost over actual learning.

But like in any instance of carpet bombing, it is the many innocents who suffer. - Quartz

Court Jails 90-Year-Old For Stealing N150,000

A Magistrate Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan on Monday sentenced a 90-year-old man to six months in prison for falsely obtaining and stealing the sum of N150,000 from a victim identified as Mrs Omolara Ajani.

The prosecutor, Mr Oyebanji Oluseye, told the court that the convicted individual, Rasaki Raji, committed the offence at Idi-Oro area of Apete community, Ibadan, Oyo State in 2014.

In the charge sheet number Mi/544/2016, which spelt out two count charge against Raji, the nonagenarian was accused of obtaining the sum of N150,000 from his victim under the pretext of helping her purchase half plot of land in the area where the act was committed.

The prosecutor stated that instead of honouring the agreement entered with the victim, Raji converted the money to personal use. Oluseye told the court that the act was tantamount to stealing under the law. According to Oluseye, the offences contravened sections 419 and 390(9), Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Giwa Babalola, found Raji guilty as charged before sentencing him to six months in jail. However, she gave the convict an option of N50,000 fine. - Punch

Ogun Police Command Arrests Fake Soldier Over Murder

The Ogun Police Command says it has arrested a fake soldier who allegedly killed a petrol tanker motor boy in Abeokuta.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Ilyasu, stated this on Monday while presenting the suspect at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta.

Ilyasu said the 49-year-old suspect, Tunde Olatunbosun, who allegedly committed the crime on April 29 at Leme in Abeokuta, was arrested on Friday.
He said the incident followed an argument between the suspect and the victim, identified as Razaq, at a car wash at Leme.
“On April 29, at Alaja car wash in Leme area of Abeokuta, one man named Olatunbosun Tunde, who brought his unregistered Sienna car to wash was engaged in an argument with a motor boy identified as Razaq.
“The argument came up over claims by the suspect that the vehicle which the deceased was working on obstructed his own vehicle.
“All of a sudden, the suspect who was dressed in military camouflage knickers brought out a gun and shot the motor boy at a close range and the boy died on the spot.
“The suspect quickly rushed to his car and fled the scene leaving no trace whatsoever,” he said.
The commissioner said that he placed his men on red alert and the police, through deployment of “technically – driven – intelligence- investigation”, traced the suspect to the Republic of Togo and lured him back to Nigeria where he was eventually arrested.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a leader of a notorious armed bandit terrorising Abeokuta and its environs.
” His gang is said to be into snatching of vehicles, kidnapping and impersonating military officers to to dupe unsuspecting members of the public,” he said.
Ilyasu added that the police recovered some dangerous weapons from the suspect including 43 live cartridges, one camouflage army knicker and two camouflage army trousers.
Other weapons recovered from the suspect were seven pairs of different vehicle number plates and one Aver pump action gun with serial number 15-0083.
The commissioner assured that the command was determined, resolute and focused in its task of making the state safe and secure.
Olatunbosun who spoke with newsmen said that the incident was a “mistake”.
“I only wanted to use the gun to harass and scare him in the course of the argument.
“The motor boy was dragging the gun with me and I never knew the gun was not in safety-catch and it eventually triggered off.
“I am not a robber. I am a motor dealer and I only use my licenced gun to scare away criminals who often trouble me in the course of my business.
“I sincerely regret my action,” he said.

Gunmen shoot Police area commander in Delta

Unknown gunmen on Sunday night reportedly attacked the Area Commander of the Ughelli Area Command of the Delta state police command, ACP Usman Ndanbabo, shooting him twice at close range.
Though reasons for the attack on the police chief could not be ascertained as at press time, The Nation recalls that crime rate within Ughelli town and its environs has been on the increase in the past couple of weeks with series of kidnappings and killings leading to regular patrols as well as stop and search operations by security operatives in the area.

“He was returning from an outing at about 8:00p.m in his Nissan SUV when he noticed that a Toyota car had been trailing him. He tried fleeing from his car when he got to the roundabout opposite the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli, along Isoko Road, but his assailants opened fire on him, shooting him on the back and his stomach and left him to die.
“He was immediately rushed to a private clinic at Ughelli for medical attention, but was referred to another private clinic in Warri for treatment owing to the gravity of the gunshot wounds,” a senior police officer at the command, who spoke on anonymous condition, revealed.
Confirming the incident, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, told the Nation that reasons for the attack were still unknown and that Ndanbabo was already receiving medical attention from his gunshot wounds.
He said more details would become available as soon as the victim regains more of his strength, adding that the command was investigating the attack and would ensure that the hoodlums who attacked him were brought to book.
“I’ve just visited him in the hospital and he’s stabilising. No arrest has been made yet, that will depend on what he tells us about what happened and we cannot extract anything from him for now because he’s in the intensive care unit.
“Though we spoke to him, we wouldn’t want to stress him with so many questions for now, but by the time he’s out of the ICU we will be able to know exactly what happened because he was alone in the vehicle, he was driving alone. Only him can tell us what happened.”

DPO shoots man dead, injure others in Lagos

A trigger-happy Divisional Police Officer (DPO) on Sunday night shot dead a fashion designer, Jamiu Ayoade and injured two others at Ijeshatedo around 7pm.
It was gathered that the DPO shot Ayoade, who was at a friend’s (Abubakar Animashaun) birthday party with his lover, at close range.
He was said to have shot him because the youths at the party refused to run at the sight of policemen.

The DPO, it was gathered, alighted his vehicle, walked up to the victim and shot him on the head, killing him on the spot.
Those who sustained injuries were said to have been hit by stray bullet.
According to witnesses, the killer cop had stormed the area with some of his subordinates in two patrol vehicles.
As if acting on information, the source said they got to the venue the first time, observed what was happening, left and returned to the venue before going berserk.
While one of his officers was said to have shot in the air, the DPO, it was gathered marched to the place Ayoade sat in anger and shot him.
According to residents, if any of the youths had fled at the sound of the first gunshot from the police, they would have been arrested and branded criminals.
They said the policemen would have taken them to their station and demanded money for their bail from their relatives.
There was a bloodstain on the floor of the house where Ayoade was killed on Monday morning, with residents condemning the manner in which he was killed.
According to Jelili Bakare, whose brother was the celebrant, the killer DPO called for reinforcement after the shooting.
He said: “My brother was having a low key party with his friends at our late father’s house when the DPO and his men stormed the place. It was around 6:30pm that they came first. The DPO called one Mama Aliyat, a woman on the street and they left.
“Surprisingly, the policemen came back to the street after some minutes. One of the officers, who followed the DPO shot in the air, thinking that some of the youths would run away.
“But when they didn’t run, the DPO came down from his vehicle angrily and went to where Ayoade was sitting in the corridor. He shot him in the head at close range.
“After the shooting, the DPO called for reinforcement from other police divisions in the area and told them the youths were armed with cutlasses and that broken bottles littered the party venue.
“But the other DPOs left after they didn’t see traces of violence at the scene. We went to Itire-Ikate Local Council to complain but he told them that the deceased has been on their wanted list. We were disappointed.”
An elder brother to the deceased, Taofeeq Ayoade, who pleaded to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the state Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni for justice, said his brother was an easy going person.
He debunked the allegation from the LCDA that he was on their wanted list, noting that his brother has never been to a police station in his life.
He said: “What annoyed us most was the allegation of the DPO that my brother had been on their wanted list. Wanted list for what purpose? We are calling on Lagos State government and the State Commissioner of Police to come to our aid.
“As I speak with you, my mother is in serious condition. She has been weeping since that day. We have buried my brother in accordance with Islamic rites.”

This Togolese 'Sugar baby' gets £2,500 monthly to keep 60-yr-old doctor company

It has been gathered that a successful doctor in his 60s, pays a 'sugar baby' student £2,500 a month to keep him company, and he has even bought her an entire bar. Self-confessed "sugar baby", Ilham Chocolat, 25, is showered with gifts by her admirer and receives money in exchange for platonic dates.

Ilham is so successful she will now be giving advice on snaring sugar daddies at a special summit in London this month. Regarded as one of the best sugar babies in the business, Ilham, who lives in Bologna, Italy, met her ‘sugar daddy’ – a 60-year-old divorced doctor – when she was just 20.

DailyMail reports that Ilham, who is taking a degree in African studies at
university in Bologna, said that, after meeting him through a friend, it felt natural to keep seeing him – although their relationship has never been sexual.

Meanwhile, her 36-year-old boyfriend of eight months, who she does sleep with, is happy with her ‘job’ as a sugar baby. Although he does not pay to date her, he recently bought her a coveted Tiffany necklace for her 25th birthday.
“I’m not having sex with my sugar daddy,” she said. “He didn’t want anything physical from me. He gives me an allowance of £2,500 a month. He takes me shopping and anything I want he gets me. Whatever I want or need, I can have.

He’s bought me a diamond ring, clothes and taken me to fancy hotels.”

The doctor has also given Ilham a credit card, enabling her to spend whenever she wishes.

But his most extravagant gift, less than a year after meeting, was a bar, which he bought for her in northern Italy – allowing her to fulfil her childhood dream of being a landlady. .

“He enjoys his time with me. He said I made him feel like a small boy and full of energy," she explained. Based in Rome, she sees him bi-monthly and has even introduced him to her family – who approve of her relationship.

He has also helped her launch a charity endeavour, which involves providing washing machines to Africa.

'We Own Lagos' - Aworis Fire Back At Oba Of Lagos

As a full blooded Awori, I disagree with the futile attempt to rewrite the history of Aworis and by extension the Yorubas as credited to Alhaji Ridwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos.

Firstly, the Island of Lagos was owned by the progenitor of Aworis, the Legendary Olofin Ogunfunminire, it served as pepper farm plantation.

In order to curb unwarranted stealing of pepper, okro and other vegetables that people came from far and near to buy from the Aworis, they devised a plan to have their farm beyond the lagoon as Otto near the present Iddo Railway terminus used to be the meeting point for both the sellers and buyers of pepper and vegetable produce then.

It was easier for them to monitor movements to the "oko ata" (pepper farm) since canoe would be needed to transport people to the other side of the lagoon and the Bini traders and other non Awori people that normally come to patronise the pepper market would naturally not come with canoes. A bigger form of canoe were used to bring people from Bini (Benin) to "oko" (farm) and the disuse of words made the Binis to turn "oko" to a Bini word they were more comfortable with ie "eko".

Secondly, the Aworis were not part of the followers of Prince Izoduwa (Oduduwa) to any imaginary expedition to Ife.

The Aworis were the direct descendants of Olofin. They left Ile Ife in accordance with the divination of ifa that the natural settlement which Eledumare (Supreme Being) had prepared for them was far from Ile Ife and they could only know the right environ if the ritual they prepared was accepted by the river ogun goddess.

The Aworis set out for the journey until the ritual sacrifices were accepted at Isheri end of River Ogun in the present day geographical expression called Lagos State.

Many empires rose and fell without any of such empires conquering the Aworis. When the Bini Empire rose after the fall of Oyo Empire, Oba of Benin ensured that Bini war guards were sent to "Oko ata" called Eko by the Binis, to protect his subjects trading interest and in an attempt to possibly extend its frontiers as a reigning empire. Therefore, the Bini soldiers devised a means of survival by collecting royalty fee free the traders to maintain their stay and survival on Aworiland.

Having stationed themselves in Lagos, under the leadership of Addo and with the influence of Oba of Benin, they became notorious, power drunken and authoritative.

Addo installed himself as the Oba of Lagos which was a small fraction of Aworiland and since, as a matter of fact, the population of the Aworis as of that time was too small to physically occupy their whole territory (even now), they decided not to show any keen interest in the development.

The descendants of Addo ruled and named their various quarters and stations in Bini words until Erelu Kuti, a brave and respected Awori Princess,  who married an Ijesha man seized the paraphernalia of Oba and insisted that her two sons should become the Obas at the same time. (I'm sure no Oba of Lagos would like to give details of this story).

At any rate, the Aworis weren't interested in contesting a situation where an immigrant was chosen to lead his fellow immigrants as Oba since the fact that the land belonged to the Aworis was not in doubt and the institution of a central Obaship was not being practised by the Aworis then.

The Oba of Lagos right from Addo to Akiolu had never contested the issue of who owned the land. They had always accepted the fact that Aworis known as "Idejos" of Lagos are the landowners.
The Aromires are actually from Ejigbo in the present day Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of the state.

If Oba Akiolu claims today that Lagos is not part of Yorubaland and the "idejos" keep mute, then Oba Akiolu should be able to convince us that Lagos was part or annex of Bini territory the very same stupidity of the theory that claimed Hong Kong as part of Britain not withstanding the distance between the two separate territories.

If Oba Akiolu's claim stands, then,  Every Sabo, Sango, Idi Araba, Obalende and Agege in Yorubaland belongs to the Arewa immigrants and Ajao Estate, Ajegunle and Okota equally belong to the Igbo and consequently not parts of Yorubaland.

According to the Yorubas, eniti o fe je oye ti ko to si a mura lati pa itan kitan. (Whoever aspires to be accorded an undeserving title should be prepared to rewrite the history of the people).

Oba Akiolu is neither an Awori nor Yoruba, his forebears are not Lagosians in the real sense of the word. They were Binis (Arota Bini ni won). He is only making a futile attempt to rewrite history in a way that will favour his children's claim to Oba of Lagos throne. He is the first and probably going to be the only one from his lineage to ascend the throne judging by the unfolding trend of events.
He knows why he said what was credited to him if he actually stay by the story.

I am not an Historian but as bona fide Awori, I know the oral tradition of my ancestors. Let no Bini Oba in Aworiland corruptly re-tell the story of our land.

Kiiti gbe niibe.

Judges who brought shame to the judiciary must be punished – Sagay

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay has said that Judges who brought shame to the judiciary must be punished for authority, power and dignity of the judiciary to be restored.

Also to be punished, according to Prof. Sagay, are public servants n politicians who conspired to bribe and corrupt the judges.

Prof. Sagay said Senior Advocates of Nigeria ‘who shamelessly approach judges and introduce them to culture of corruption deserve harsh punishment.

Speaking in Benin City on Monday at the 2017 Annual Law Week of the Nigeria Bar Association, Edo State Branch, Prof. Sagay urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to investigate, arrest, and jail lawyers who receive loots as fee from corrupt public servants and politicians.

In his paper titled: “Corruption in the judiciary; the disciplinary role of the NJC vis-Ă -vis law enforcement agencies”, Prof Sagay said Judges must be perfect and remain the repository of honour, integrity and high moral authority.

He said when the law court across the country failed to interpret, apply and enforce the law, the existence of the any civilized society will be endangered adding that loss of confidence in the judiciary will amount to chaos and disintegration.

“No one ever expected judges to throw caution, rectitude, honour, justice and the credibility of the judiciary to the winds by selling his judgment. This is the destructive culture brought about by election petitions which has spread like epidemic through our formerly hallowed judicial system.

“The disciplinary procedures of the NJC were not set up for such crime. That is why tragically we are now experiencing judges being tried in court like common criminals. That is why the anti-corruption and security agencies have taken it upon themselves to continue from where the NJC’s authority ends.

“The bottom line is that judges enjoy no immunity from investigation, arrest, trial and conviction.

“In order to restore the authority, power and dignity of the judiciary, we must go through extra ordinary painful process of punishing those who have brought same and obliging to that sacred institution.

“Lawyers should be treated like accomplice after the fact because they share in the proceeds of the crimes of politically exposed persons and once paid from that stained loot, it becomes their life’s struggle to protect and shield the primary criminals from the consequences of their crime.”

In his keynote paper, Prof. Lawrence Atsegbua, stated that the law has failed as a tool of fighting corruption ‘because in spite of laws prescribing stiff penalties for corruption, more money than ever has been stolen from the public coffer by corrupt means.’

Atsegbua noted that all the laws against corruption would fail if disequilibrium in the social status of citizens were not met.

He said Nigerian leaders lack the political will to fight corruption a situation which has hindered socio-economic development.

Atsegbua said, “Corruption has become institutionalized in Nigeria. Despite several efforts by successive governments to curb corruption by the passage of several anti-corruption legislation, it is now clear that corruption can’t be fought solely by legal prescription.

“Fighting corruption within the rule of law in a Democratic society will fail because, the laws divergence from society environment, social and economic inequality in society, lack of implementation capacity and the gain of law breaking exceeds the loss of punishment.

“No matter the number of laws therefore passed by the National Assembly, corruption will still remain a landmark in Nigeria.

“Unless the state start living up to its responsibilities in providing functioning health services, education, electricity, payment of salaries and gratuity as and when due, the law will fail in its quest to fight corruption in Nigeria.

“The fight against corruption in Nigeria ought to be structural leading to attitudinal change in order to make citizen aversion to corruption a matter of more conviction rather than one legal coercion”.

Chairman of the occasion and Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Esther Ikponmwen, said corruption if not tackled may continue to hamper the growth and development of the country.

Justice Ikponmwen regretted that the judiciary has been affected by the sting of corruption noting that any act that deviates from acceptable standard of the law profession is corruption.

She said successive governments have sought to fight corrupt practices without much result unlike the ongoing corruption fight which has yielded positive outcome.

Justice Daniel Okungbowa in his paper said corruption would stop in Nigeria with the removal of immunity clause and ability to recall lawmakers.

He also prescribed the death penalty for corrupt officials

Femi Kuti breaks world saxophone record

Femi Kuti has broken the World record for the longest single note held on a saxophone.
He attained the feat on Sunday at the New Africa Shrine as shared by his sister, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti on her Instagram page @yenikuti;
“ This evening 7th May at the New Africa Shrine, Femi Kuti broke the world record for the longest single note on a saxophone note set in 1997 by Kenny G.
The record stood at 45mins 37 seconds….Femi did 46mins 38seconds!! Give it up, we have a world champ.
This was witnessed by a large audience that included Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce, the deputy high commissioners of Netherlands and The United Kingdom.“
The record was previously first set in December, 1997 by legendary saxophonist Kenny G when he held an E-Flat for over 45 minutes.
Kenny G was reported to have used a technique called Circular Breathing, which keeps a steady stream of air flowing through the saxophone even as the player breathes.
For Femi Kuti, it is unclear yet what technique he used or even, the member of the sax family he used to achieve the massive feat.
He started playing the sax when he was 15 and joined his father’s band “The Egypt 80.”
He later formed his own band, “Positive Force’’ in the late 80s.
Femi, four-time Grammy award nominee, is skilled on other musical instruments including the trumpet and the piano.
According to media reports, Femi awaits an official recognition by the Guinness World Record.(NAN)

Man jailed for performing sex acts while woman slept

According to BBC report, a man who filmed himself carrying out sex acts on a sleeping woman has been jailed for six years.
Humphries, 43 of of Manor Place, Sleaford, pleaded guilty to five sex offence charges and was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.
Tony Stanford, prosecuting, told the court Humphries and the woman had earlier engaged in consensual sex after going on a drinking binge together, on 26 July last year.
The offences came to light after police tracked down the woman, whose family feared she might have been kidnapped, the court heard on Friday.
However, at the time Humphries' victim was unaware she had been attacked and told officers she wanted to stay with him.
It was only after further inquiries including seizing his phone that police arrested the defendant, the court was told.
Mr Stanford said: "His mobile phone was examined and five video clips were found. They showed him having sexual activity with the woman while she was asleep. She remained unconscious throughout and at one point she is heard snoring."
"It was a matter of Humphries taking advantage of the situation," he added.
Karen Walton, in mitigation, said Humphries and the woman had both been drinking heavily and the defendant had taken crack, heroin and steroids.
"It was only when he saw the footage that he realised the gravity of what was happening," she said.
Humphries admitted one charge of sexual assault, one charge of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent and three charges of assault by penetration.
