Osun 2018: US varsity disowns Senator Adeleke’s certificate

The Jacksonville State University, JSU, has said Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District and the state’s PDP gubernatorial candidate, did not graduate from the public university located in Alabama, United States.

According to his profile on the National Assembly website, Adeleke has a Diploma in Criminology from JSU and graduated in 1986.
However, a report published on the website of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, ICIR, Abuja says the authorities of JSU confirmed he has no degree from JSU where he registered as Jackson Ademola Adeleke, while providing what it titled as official records of his enrollment.
Buffy Lockette, the Director of Public Relations at the university, in response to an email enquiry by the ICIR, said that though the senator enrolled at the tertiary institution, he was not awarded any degree.
Lockette was quoted as saying, “Your request was forwarded to me.
“According to our records, he attended JSU but did not graduate. I cannot provide any additional information. Perhaps you can learn more at http://www.studentclearinghouse.org.”
Senator Adeleke’s other academic claims have, however, been challenged.
According to recently circulated claims, Adeleke registered for GCE O’ Level in 1981 but had F9 in English Language and was recorded absent for other subjects. - Daily Post

Otedola tanker explosion: Police arrest truck owner

Father seeks assistance

The owner of the petrol tanker, that sparked last month’s  inferno, on Otedola Bridge, Lagos, has been arrested by the police.
No fewer than nine people lost their lives in the incident which also got dozens of vehicles burnt.
Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Chile Oti, said the truck owner was arrested in Kano on Thursday.

The suspect is said to be helping the police locate the driver of the ill-fated truck.
In a related development, the state government announced yesterday, that the DNA forensic examination it conducted to  ascertain the identities of the victims are ready.
Health Commissioner, Jide Idris,  said that nine bodies of the victims were successfully matched to nine  families  out of the 11 families that showed up at the Lagos State DNA & Forensic Center (LSD&FC).
He said the bodies “are now  ready to be handed over to the rightful families for  necessary burial arrangements.”
Collection  of the   remains will commence from 10.00am today  at the Seminar  Room of the Pathology and Forensic Medicine Department of  the Lagos State  University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, the commissioner said.
He added:”This  is the first time that  unidentifiable victims of a mass disaster have been successfully identified locally  (in Nigeria) using DNA technology.
“The Lagos State  Government through the Lagos  State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State DNA and   Forensic Center  completed this identification process in less than four weeks  after the incident  as against  over 6 months when the  practice was to take samples abroad for analysis.”
Idris reiterated that the medical care of those injured is still ongoing at the hospitals at the expense of the state government.
“I also wish to note that rigorous effort was made in ensuring that errors are reduced to the barest minimum in order not to compound the agony already being experienced by the bereaved families,” said Idris.
The commissioner also advised members of the public to disregard the news currently trending on social media about some strange disease called HPV, saying the story is totally false, “people should not panic, HPV is a vital infection and does not kill as being reported,” he assured. - The Nation

Javier Hernandez is not on the market -West Ham

Chicharito Hernández West Ham 3012018: West Ham's Javier Hernandez

Hernandez is not "on the market" and is unlikely to leave West Ham before the start of the season, according to club sporting director Mario Husillos.
The 30-year-old has recently returned to the club after World Cup duty with Mexico, where El Tri advanced from the group stage for a seventh consecutive tournament, only to be eliminated by Brazil in the last 16.
Despite a bright start with West Ham, Hernandez's future has been a subject of speculation after falling out of favour at London Stadium last season, when former manager David Moyes preferred Marko Arnautovic to lead the line.
The striker was a headline signing for the Hammers last year and Husillos, who worked with new manager Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga when they reached the Champions League quarter-finals in 2012-13, believes the former Manchester City tactician's arrival could provide Hernandez with a new lease of life.
Speaking to Marca Claro, Husillos said: "We have many expectations, but offers? There surely won't be any because people know we have him. For the moment he's not on the market at all.
"[Pellegrini's] style is one that favours all attacking players, because it is to maintain possession, attack, reach the area and create opportunities.
"The forwards in general are benefited by this type of play."

PL : Salah says shoulder 'much better' ahead of new season

Salah-cropped: Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah claimed he was fully fit and recovered from a shoulder injury as he looked ahead to the new season with Liverpool.
Salah, 26, returned to training at the end of last week after World Cup duty with Egypt and marked his first pre-season appearance for the Reds with a goal against Manchester City in the International Champions Cup.
The forward had a remarkable first season at Anfield, scoring 44 goals and gaining wide recognition for his performances, success which was capped with the PFA Player of the Year award.
Liverpool have been busy in the transfer window as they look to challenge for the Premier League title and Salah is glad to be working with his new team-mates, having suffered an injury in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid that hindered him in Russia.
"I am very happy to be back. I feel good and my shoulder is much better. I'm very happy to be back in the squad," he told Liverpool TV.
"Last year I had a great season – everyone, not just me. When people talk about myself, yes there is some pressure because it was a record [most goals in a 38-game Premier League season].
"We also have to improve [again] in the Champions League and finish in a better position in the Premier League.
"But it's not something I worry about, I just keep doing what I am doing. I am happy about what I am doing, so I just keep doing the same."

Nigerian passport now valid for 10 years

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the validity of passports issued in the country, should be increased from five to 10 years.

The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammed Babandede, revealed this on Thursday, when he visited the Ikoyi passport office in Lagos.
He said the president also approved improved security features and quality for the passport booklets.
“He (Buhari) has approved 10-year validity for passports which is great news. When the report comes, passports will be valid for 10 years which is great news especially for adults from the age of 18 and above.
“Though people will pay more, if they can pay more and get the booklets quickly, it’s good with improved security for 10 years validity. They would pay more but the document would be available, that’s good.
“Ten years after the enrolment of the e-passport system, we need to improve the security features. You can’t keep documents for 10 years without seeing decreased values in them, so we are improving the security features which would raise the standards of the passports,” he said.
Babandede added that the new changes, will ease the stress of renewing passports and also help the country.
“And we will ensure it is done before the end of this year because the booklet has to change,” he added. - Daily Post
