Woman who circumcised son, 4, faces 14 years in jail over child abuse charges

An Eritrean woman could face 14-years in jail after circumcising her four-year-old son.

The mother, who is living as an asylum seeker in Israel, performed the procedure at her home in March last year, according to local news website Haaretz.

The woman, referred to as ‘A’ in Israeli courts, faces charges of child abuse and grievous bodily harm but claims she was unaware she was committing crime as carrying out circumcision is not illegal in her north African home country.

At the Be’er Sheva District Court, the 37-year-old denied performing a forbidden or illegal act, Haaretz reported.

She told the court: “This is my son, my baby.

“After so many requests I made to all sorts of places about how to do it, I took it upon myself and
cut. In Ethiopian culture, Eritrean culture, anyone who knows how can do the circumcision.”

As circumcisions are not regulated by law there is no requirement for a doctor to be present, however, lawyers are debating the definition of circumcision, who can perform one and when.

An indictment read out in court claims the defendant did not respond to the child’s crying and appeals to stop the procedure.

Defence lawyers denied claims it was carried out as punishment for wetting the bed.

The defendant took her son to nursery school three days after the incident, and asked him to lower his trousers so she could explain what happened to the teacher.

The teacher, who noticed he allegedly had a limp and was injured, alerted authorities, according to local reports.

He was taken to hospital and handed over to foster care the same day.

If the woman is acquitted a legal precedent would be set over the use of cultural defence in cases involving circumcision.

The trial continues.

Three-year-old boy freezes to death after wandering out of house in sub-zero weather on night of his birthday

A three-year-old boy froze to death after wandering out of his house in sub-zero temperatures on the night of his birthday.

Little Landyn Melton was found dead on the front porch of his home in Burke County in Northern Carolina in the USA.

His lbody was spotted early the next morning by a passing driver who called 911.

A funeral for the tragic toddler was held at 1pm at Burkemont Baptist Church Cemetery yesterday.
Local wsoctv.com reports that his obituary described him as a loving, happy little boy who lit up the room when he walked in.

It added that the toddler, who had turned three the day before, enjoyed playing, especially mowing with his toy mower.

The investigation into Landyn's death, being handled by the local Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, is continuing.

One theory being worked on by investigators is that a storm door may have closed after the child got out.

Officials told Channel 9 News that they were called to a house on Hopewell Road at around 7:45am last Wednesday.

Investigators believe he died after being exposed to the freezing conditions for too long - after wandering out on his own.

The first police officer on the scene, a sheriff's deputy, said temperatures were in the mid-20 degrees fahrenheit (around -3C) - but he added that the strong winds made it feel much colder.

Wind chill is reported to have pushed temperatures to well below zero.

An autopsy carried out on Landyn's body on Thursday revealed there were no signs of trauma.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office is awaiting toxicology reports alongside results of other tests.
Police said the mother and her boyfriend slept through the incident, unaware what had happened.
Other family members are reportedly also in shock at the death - as well as members of the wider community.

Sheriff Steve Whisenant said: "When you come to a tragic situation like this, it is always heartbreaking for everybody involved, including the officers investigating the case, so our prayers go out to all the families."

One neighbour, Pat Williams, said: "Being a grandmother and a great grandmother, and that being my home place, it has touched me greatly.

"I'm sorry for everybody, and the whole community is praying for everybody."

Another neighbour, David Barrier, fought back tears, saying: "Just to hear what happened, it's just a tragedy.

“We've been praying for the family and hope things work out for them."

A 29-yr-old man, Olanimu Babatunde, also known as Kokomaster, died of exhaustion after having an all-night s*x romp with no fewer than four ladies in his house on Thomas Street, Lagos Island.

His s*x partners, now answering questions on the man’s curious death from the police, claimed that they never knew Olanimu was dead until around 4am on the fateful day when they realized he no longer responded to their touch.

“We thought he was enjoying it, so we were taking turns and just having fun. It was when we realized he was no longer responding that we screamed,” one of the suspects told the police.

An eyewitness identified as Jide, who rushed to the scene when he heard the girls screaming, said: “The girls, who were already intoxicated at that time, said they thought he was enjoying it, so they kept going on taking turns and just having fun. It was when they noticed that he wasn’t breathing that they started screaming.

“People rushed into the deceased’s apartment to find the four undressed girls and his lifeless body. They immediately alerted the police, who came few minutes later to arrest the suspects.”

Update! Why I Will Not Speak On Stephanie Otobo’s Allegation Now – Apostle Suleman

Johnson Suleman, the clergyman accused by a Canada-based Nigerian woman of having amorous relationship with her, on Sunday, declined to speak on the allegation, saying he would only “open up” at the appropriate time.

PREMIUM TIMES met Mr. Suleman, the founder of Omega Fire Ministry, OFM, in his Auchi, Edo State office for about 20 minutes shortly after a church service that lasted about four hours. Our reporters joined the service midway, where Mr. Suleman spoke about the need for unity in the body of Christ in his sermon.

The cleric, who said he was rushing to the Benin airport to catch a flight to Cyprus and Turkey for religious crusades, pleaded with PREMIUM TIMES to be excused from commenting on the matter because it would be subjudicial to speak on it.

This newspaper had on Saturday interviewed Ms. Otobo’s mother, Bukky, at her Sapele, Delta State base.

The light-complexioned woman had said during the interview that she travelled to Auchi to beg Mr. Suleman because her daughter had been manipulated by lawyers.

She had said, “I did that because of my daughter, (and) because I am a mother. The way I am seeing her is not the way I brought her up. And all those her character is not giving me happiness which I want to put an end to. That is why I went to Auchi.”

He assured that he would speak to PREMIUM TIMES because of the newspaper’s credibility.

He thereafter offered to take a group photograph with the newspaper’s reporters in his palatial office.

Apart from veiled references to the matter during church services, Mr. Suleman has not publicly reacted to the allegations in the media.

His publicists, Phrank Shaibu, had however issued several statements denying the alleged illicit affair with Ms. Otobo.

Ms. Otobo was recently re-arraigned by the police for alleged blackmail, threat to life, conspiracy, and intent to steal from Mr. Suleman.

She was arraigned alongside her associate, Wisdom Godstime, before Magistrate Kikelomo Bukola-Ayeye of the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Ms. Otobo and her co-defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They were granted bail in the sum of N100,000 each. The case was then adjourned to April 27 for commencement of trial.

This development comes a week after Ms. Otobo formally filed a petition asking the police to investigate multiple allegations against the preacher.

In a letter to the Lagos State Police Commissioner, she accused Mr. Suleman of illegal procurement of abortion, threat to life, and attempted murder.

Ms. Otobo’s petition came days after she told journalists at a press conference that her relationship with Mr. Suleman ended after the preacher began to insist he wanted a sexual activity that involved a threesome.

Update! Stephanie Otobo Presents Original Screen Of Her Topless Facetime Chat With Apostle Suleman

Stephanie Otobo, a Canadian singer who accused popular Nigerian priest Apostle Johnson Suleman of impregnating her and later trying to kill her.

Earlier today, she provided more evidence to buttress her allegations that Apostle Suleman has communications with her during a yearlong sexual frolic that saw the Apostle flying her all over the world for sex.

One of the numerous facetime chats happened On October 19, 2016, at 5:26 PM according to the timestamp on the phone. Ms. Otobo was arrested in Nigeria last month and framed by policemen acting in concert with the priest. She was slammed with terrorism and extortion charges after she was detained for several days.

Upon returning to Canada, Suleman has ratcheted up his attacks on Ms. Otobo using the media and members of her family to ridicule her position.

Two weeks ago, Suleman ferried Ms. Otobo's mother to his church in Auchi Edo state.

In a well-choreographed session; he got the woman to ask him to "forgive her daughter" and move on. After agreeing to do so before his large congregation, he backtracked and instructed his lawyers to file N1billion suit against Ms. Otobo.

Violent thugs who tied a man up in his own home and stabbed him in the eye are jailed

Two violent thugs have been jailed after they tied a man up in his own home and stabbed him in the eye during a ‘horrific’ attack.

Ryan Patton, 21, of Brinnington, and Kyle Bond, 19, of Reddish, first met their victim, near McColl's newsagents, on Mersey Square, in Stockport , on July 1 last year. They threatened him and stole £20 before running off.

But Minshull Crown Court heard later that evening the victim saw Patton and Bond again near Stockport bus station and asked for his money back. They threatened him again and insisted he get in their car, before driving him to his home in High Lane.

Once inside Patton, of Wiltshire Avenue, became aggressive and pulled out a knife, while Bond tied him to a radiator.

The victim, who was in his 20s, was left with suspected nose and cheekbone fractures after he was held at knifepoint and repeatedly punched.

Patton, was sentenced to eight and a half years imprisonment after he admitted a string of offences, including robbery, false imprisonment and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm at a previous hearing.

Bond was jailed for five and a half years having previously pleaded guilty to the same offences.

Det Con Jane Dodd, of Stockport police, said: “This victim was subjected to a horrific and prolonged attack in his own home, which is somewhere he should feel safe.

“The level of violence used was abhorrent and both men are now behind bars for their actions.”

After the attack the pair ransacked the property, stealing his car which they escaped in. But both were arrested when they crashed into parked cars on Mayorlowe Avenue, Brinnington.

Several hours later the victim managed to escape and went to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which also included bruising and swelling - but his eye was miraculously not damaged.

A man fell asleep with his iPhone charging in bed. It nearly electrocuted him.

Wiley Day's dog-tag chain got caught on the prongs of his plugged-in iPhone charger. He was treated at a hospital for serious burns.© Courtesy of Wiley Day Wiley Day's dog-tag chain got caught on the prongs of his plugged-in iPhone charger. He was treated at a hospital for serious burns. When Wiley Day fell asleep on March 22, his iPhone was not far away. Like so many others, he had grown used to keeping his phone with him in bed, via an extension cord, as it charged overnight.
The 32-year-old Huntsville, Ala., man would soon regret that habit.
The next morning, Day woke up and rolled over. As he did so, a dog-tag necklace that he was wearing happened to catch on the exposed prongs of the charger head, which had come loose from the extension cord.
The metal chain suddenly became a conductor for the electricity — and it traveled straight to Day's neck.
The jolt he felt was "the eeriest, darkest, most demonic thing you could ever experience," Day told The Washington Post on Friday. "I don't have enough adjectives to describe it."
© Courtesy of Wiley DayDay said he was thrown from his bed to the ground. In a matter of moments, he stopped feeling anything.
"Your body is numb at that point," he said. "I guess people would think it would be burning, but in my case I felt a whole lot of pressure around my neck."
Day's eyesight started to fade, and he felt as if he were trying to see out of a peephole, with everything rendered in black and gray, he remembered.
He became acutely aware of his heartbeat, which thundered in his ear.
Day remembered shouting for his relatives, who slept on the other side of the home, until his adult niece came running into the room.
Somehow, he said, he managed to yank the necklace and pull it off.
"She said I kept yelling 'Jesus!' " Day said, referring to his niece. "When I came to and figured out what happened, I literally stood straight up, and I said, 'Oh my God, I think I just got electrocuted.' "
His niece alerted him to a sign of what had happened: There was smoke coming out of the extension cord.
Day's shirt was singed, with a small hole burned out. There were strips of skin and flesh missing where the metal chain had scorched his neck. And the pattern of the necklace was burned into parts of his hands where he had gripped the chain to try to tear it off.
"Had I not pulled that necklace off when I did ..." Day said. "I just believe that God spared my life, and that's what happened."
He rushed to see his doctor, who admitted him into a hospital immediately. Doctors determined that Day had suffered second- and third-degree burns to his hands and neck.
Benjamin Fail, a Huntsville physician, told WAAY News that 100 volts of electricity can kill a person. He estimated that Day had been hit with about 110 volts. "He is lucky to be alive," Fail told the station. "Electrocution kills."
Fail did not respond to The Washington Post's request for comment.
After three days in the hospital, Day was released.
According to the American Burn Association, there are, on average, 400 electrocution deaths and 4,400 injuries caused electrical hazards each year in the United States. Though the majority of those deaths and injuries occur in the workplace, the group recommends taking precautions when using appliances and other electrical devices at home — including extension cords.
"Hot plugs and sockets are often caused by deteriorated connections to the cord wires," the group says on its website. "Many older cords are made with small wire that can overheat easily. Check the temperature of extension cords when they are in use. If they are hot to the touch, disconnect the appliance."
Extension cords are the cause of about 4,700 residential fires each year, resulting in about 50 deaths and 280 injuries annually, according to the group, which cited statistics from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The commission recommends throwing away old extension cords that don't have safety features such as polarized blades, a large plug face and safety closures.
Though doctors told Day that he had suffered a freak accident, and it took several days before he could return to sleeping in the room where the accident happened. "If you've ever seen that show '1000 Ways to Die,' that's kind how this situation was," he said.
© Courtesy of Wiley DayStill, he wanted to share his story to let others know of the possible dangers of charging electronics in bed. At the middle school where he works as a behavior specialist, Day has seen firsthand how his students "cannot part from those phones."
But even in the last week, he said, adults have been reaching out to him to admit that they, too, sleep next to their charging phones.
"I found out most people were using extension cords because they were still on their devices in bed," Day said. "I mean, it's sad but true."
Day has since started charging his iPhone in the kitchen — far away from his bedroom.
"From my experience to others, it is not worth your life charging your electronics in bed. I mean, it's not worth it," he said. "I wouldn't wish what happened to me on my worst enemy."

Nigeria Police Tortured Blind Student In Detention For Protesting His Rustication

Lawrence Success, the recently rusticated visually-impaired University of Lagos (UNILAG) student, was taken away from 13 other student activists remanded on the orders of a mobile court in Lagos over the weekend and tortured by the Police.
While his colleagues were moved from Adekunle Police Station, otherwise known as Panti, for arraignment before a mobile court in the Oshodi area of Lagos, Success said he was taken back to Adekunle Police Station, where policemen said he was separated from other activists because they felt pity for him.
He, however, told the policemen that he did not need their pity. His rejection of pity, however, angered the policemen who, he said, started slapping him before adopting other forms of torture and taking him to the cell.
"After beating me mercilessly, they took me into the cell and asked inmates to torture me," he said.
The inmates obliged, but quickly realized he was blind. "They apologized to me, and I have been in that cell since Friday," he explained.
The students were arrested on Friday on their way back from the UNILAG campus, where they had sought an explanation from the Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Ademola Adeleke, over the university's decision to rusticate Success. Instead of offering an explanation, Mr.Adeleke called the Police to arrest and detain them.
Fourteen of them were arrested, including Adeyeye Olorunfemi, who was rusticated for questioning, in a Facebook post, the competence of the UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahman Bello, on account of poor handling of campus affairs. They were subsequently arraigned before a mobile court, which ordered them remanded.
Success was released on Sunday afternoon from Adekunle Police Station, where he had been tortured and asked to report back to report on Monday.

Mum told to leave playgroup for not being 'multicultural'

© Provided by Bauer Media Pty Ltd

There’s just one word to sum up a situation like this...

Wow. Just… wow.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Sydney mum-of-two Tara Coverdale was told to leave a playgroup in the city suburb of Alexandria because this playgroup is for “multicultural families” only.

Ms Coverdale, who was invited to take her four-year-old son and eight-month-old baby along to community centre by her Russian-born friend, was left completely shocked when quizzed about her “background”.

According to Ms Coverdale, after explaining to one of the centre’s staff that she was a fourth-generation Australian, the staff member replied: “I’m sorry, you can’t come here. It’s for multicultural families and people who speak languages other than English at home.”

“I said ‘I’m not leaving’,” Ms Coverdale explains.

“My kids were playing. My older son was having such a good time with his buddy, and I thought, ‘Why should I leave?’”

Ms Coverdale was then told to try joining another playgroup in Newtown or Erskineville and forced to leave.

“We’re in a pretty progressive area,” Tara said. “It’s very accepting of all people. But I feel like I’m excluded.”

And this is something Education Minister Rob Stokes detests.

"I was disappointed to hear that a mum and her young child felt they were not welcome… This is not acceptable," he says. "Everyone, regardless of their background, should feel included in these wonderful community activities."

Brooklyn Beckham has shared a close-up picture of his first tattoo.

The 18-year-old aspiring photographer - whose parents are David and Victoria Beckham - had an inking of a Native American chief inscribed onto his forearm at the Shamrock Social Club in Hollywood and he took to Instagram to reveal the finished product.

Sharing an image of the tattoo on the picture sharing website, he wrote: "And we are done".

Brooklyn's tattoo was completed by the legendary tattoo artist Mark Mahoney at his Shamrock Social Club on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Mark is the owner of and the principal artist at Shamrock Social Club, which is hugely popular with celebrities and he has also worked with Lana Del Rey on two of her music videos.

Brooklyn wrote: "Honoured to have my first tattoo done by dads friend Mark Mahoney(sic)," and added: "Thank you so much Mark x just like dads.(sic)"

While Brooklyn got his inking on his forearm, David has the same tattoo on his side.
And they are clearly following a Beckham family tradition as David and his father Ted also have identical tattoos.

Explaining the tattoo of a ship he has etched just below his armpit on his torso, David previously said: "The ship. My father has exactly the same tattoo."

And that's not the only tattoo David has to remind him of his family, as he has a number of inkings dedicated to his children - Brooklyn, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 12, and Harper, five.
Speaking about the word 'Buster' he has tattooed on his neck, David said: "My first son, I've always called him buster."

On his torso, David has the words "we love you daddy", written in his children's handwriting.
He said: "My children actually wrote the words 'we love you daddy'."
David also explained the meaning behind the tattoo on the palm of his hand, which is based on a drawing done by his daughter Harper.

He explained: "I was watching Harper draw one day, and I thought 'I'm gonna have it tattooed on me.'
"The story of my life is written on my skin. Don't expect to read it on my face."

Two Nigerian women arrested and charged with human trafficking in Ghana

Two Nigerian women who were arrested in Ghana appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly trafficking six women from Nigeria to Ghana for commercial sex work.
The women, Ify Mba, and Ammanda Eze Chioma on Thursday pleaded not guilty to the charge and were both granted bail in the sum of GHc70,000.00 with three sureties each, one of which is to be justified by the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo told the court that on March 24, the police had information that a group of Nigerian girls were being escorted by some women into a hotel within Baatsonaa for solicitation.

The prosecution said based on intelligence, the police embarked on an operation and arrested the accused persons, and also six other young ladies ages between 21 and 26.

She said the accused persons, together with another, now at large, are Nigerian nationals who came to Ghana and are lodging at Kormens Hotel, Baatsonaa.

ASP Boafo told the court that the ladies revealed to the police that they were brought from Nigeria by the accused persons on transit to Germany and Dubai to be employed as house helps. But upon their arrival, they were forced by the accused persons to go into soliciting.

She said investigations established that the victims were locked up in a hotel room after which they were made to swear an oath and forced to engage in prostitution in nightclubs and hotels in Baatsona. She added that the victims were made to pay N555K to the accused persons.

She also said two other victims were brought into the country on March 23, and made to go through the same ritual.

She further revealed in court that the victims were denied food and water for some days when they initially refused to engage in the illegal trade, forcing them to rescind their decisions.

The prosecution told the court that in their caution statements, the two accused persons denied the offence.

Son Of Hate Preacher Who Left UK To Fight With Jihadists Is Stripped Of His British Passport

The son of hook-handed hate preacher Abu Hamza has had his British passport taken from him, leaving him stranded in Syria.

Sufiyan Mustafa, 22, left the UK to fight with jihadists in 2013 after his father was jailed in the US for terrorist offences.

But after he left, the Home Office stripped him of his identification, meaning he can no longer return home.

He told an Arabic newspaper he has appealed to be allowed back into the UK, according to the Telegraph.

He has now spoken to a newspaper - al-Quds newspaper, saying 'Britain is the place where I was born and lived.

'I have never been a threat to national security in Britain and will not commit aggression on its population because our religion does not allow attacks on unarmed innocents.'

Earlier this month, Abu Hamza's youngest son appeared in a propaganda video denouncing ISIS and the actions of Assad's government.

In the video, he said: 'There is no solution to the Syrian situation while Assad is in power… if you want to help then shine a light on the atrocities carried out by Bashar Assad, the Russians and ISIS.'

'It is very unfair for the West to judge Muslims by the actions of Al Qaeda, ISIS or Hizbollah. If that is fair then all Muslims have the right to view all Christians as crusaders or Americans as Charles Manson.'

In a YouTube video he is also seen reciting verses of the Qu'ran.

He is the sixth of eight children fathered by Hamza, who is serving a life-sentence in prison in Colorado.

Omg! Nigerian bishop and his secretary jailed for sexual assaults on teen

A Nigerian bishop and his female secretary have been jailed after they sexually assaulted a teenage girl and a woman during private prayer sessions at their south London Christian centre.

Benjamin Egbujor, 55, of Harold Avenue, Belvedere, Kent, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to three years and four months' imprisonment on Friday, March 31, after he was found guilty of sexual assault and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Rose Nwenwu, 43, of Thurlestone Road, West Norwood, London, was convicted of helping and encouraging Egbujor in relation to one of his victims, and taking part in that sexual assault herself. She was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

The offences took place from March 2011 to January 2013, at the Jubilee Christian Centre in Penarth Street, Peckham, where Egbujor was a bishop.

Officers in the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Command (SOECA) started an investigation in January 2014 after a teenage girl disclosed to her family she had been abused by Egbujor.
The victim, who was under the age of 16, said Egbujor told her she had been chosen to attend an individual prayer session.

After being taken into his private office, the girl was forced to undress and oil was poured over her.
As a result of further enquiries, officers also interviewed a woman in her 30s who disclosed she had also been sexually assaulted by Egbujor.

The adult victim said Nwenwu, who worked as Egbujor’s secretary, also took part in the sexual assault by taking her clothes off and pouring oil over her.

Egbujor and Nwenwu were both found guilty on March 9 after a five-week trial at Inner London Crown Court.

Egbujor was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for the sexual assault and four months, to be served consecutively, for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Nwenwu was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for sexual assault and three years, to be served concurrently, for helping and encouraging Egbujor.

Both were made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Detective Inspector Angela Craggs, of the Met’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Command, said:“Egbujor and Nwenwu exploited the trust of their congregation when they targeted and abused these victims. They believed their position within the church would protect them from facing justice, but the court has held them accountable for their actions. I hope this conviction serves to empower victims of sexual violence to come forward and report to police, and as a warning to offenders who think they can use their position to protect them from the law.”

Police Constable James Bell, of the Met’s Offences and Child Abuse Command (SOECA) said
"Egbujor and Nwenwu preyed on their victim's vulnerabilities, whilst satisfying their own sexual urges under the guise of private prayer. I commend the victims for their courage and commitment in this case. I fear there may be other victims who have not yet come forward and I urge them or any victim of sexual abuse to tell the police what happened."
