The suspects, according to him, belonged to two different armed robbery gangs.
Ajisebutu said the first, a four man gang, was smashed at 10:30p.m on March 22, 2017 through robust intelligence by detectives of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
The suspects are Abdulkareem Wasiu, 26, who is the gang leader; Segun Adelotan a.k.a Elesin, 28; Afolabi Segun, aka Bala, 26; and Lekan Usman, alias Star, 19.
Abdulkareem of the first gang confessed that he bought the gun used by the gang for N35,000 and got a share of N25,000 from one operation during which a Toyota Camry was stolen at Toll Gate, Ibadan.
He claimed to have gone into armed robbery after two motorcycles he bought on higher purchase were stolen.
Ajisebutu, however, said the gang “was responsible for the spate of armed robbery incidents in places like Odo-Ona, Muslim and other parts of the state where it robbed victims in their homes, snatched cars,
motorcycles, phones and other valuables.
“Members of the gang had concluded plans to carry out another deadly operation in Ibadan metropolis, but were nabbed before they could execute their evil plans.”
Items said to have been recovered from the gang include one locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun and two cartridges.
Ajisebutu gave the names of members of the second gang as Kunle Adelakun, 29; Femi Ojo, 32; and Kehinde Ayodele, 32.
Items recovered from the gang include two guns and six live cartridges.
He said the arrest was made possible by the intensive stop and search strategy of the police, which he described as part of proactive measures put in place to curb crime in the state.
According to him, “policemen from Alakia/Adelubi police division while on stop and search arrested a member of a dare-devil armed robbery gang at Iwo Road, Ibadan. The arrest of one of the suspects, Kunle Adelakun at about 10a.m on March 30,2017 and the recovery of two locally made cut-to-size single  barrel guns and six cartridges from him led to the arrest of two other members of the gang at their hideouts in the state by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command.”
Adelakun, in a chat with newsmen said the gang was responsible for snatching of posh cars, motorcycles and other valuables, adding that Adelakun was asked by other gang member to bring the gun from Ilesha in Osun State to Ibadan, on the day he was arrested.
Ajisebutu alleged that Adelakun wanted to join other members of the gang in preparation for a robbery operation planned to be carried out on March 31, 2017.
All the seven suspects, according to him, will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation. -THE SUN
