A second passenger train has derailed in England within less than 24 hours, after a Greater Anglia service came off the tracks near Wickford in Essex on Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026.
The incident occurred just one day after a serious Southern Rail derailment near Lewes in East Sussex, where three carriages overturned and passengers were trapped. Around 150 people were on board that train, with 20 people taken to hospital, including two who suffered serious injuries. Police later confirmed that the two seriously injured passengers were not in life-threatening condition.

The latest derailment happened near Wickford at around 2:12pm. British Transport Police said the rear carriages of a train had derailed but remained upright. Emergency services, including police, firefighters and paramedics, attended the scene.
