Suspect: I received N500 for each of the six persons I killed in Ibadan

Suspect: I received N500 for each of the six persons I killed in Ibadan
One of the three suspects arrested over the serial killings in Akinyele area of Ibadan, Oyo state, says he received food and N500 for each of the six persons murdered in the area.
Within a month, at least five persons, including a pregnant woman and two students, were hacked to death in the community.
The suspect was among the 19 suspects paraded on Friday by Nwachuckwu Enwonwu, the state commissioner of police, for offences ranging from armed robbery to defilement, motorcycle theft, among others.
The 19-year-old suspect said he was sent on the mission by a 50-year-old herbalist, whom he claimed was his master.
“Anytime I’m to go for the killing, baba will give me some charms and also teach me some incantation to be recited so that nobody will see me at the scene of the crime,” he said.
“I will hit the victims with a shovel and recite the incantation immediately I saw blood coming out of the victims’ body.
“Baba instructed me to always move around the victims at the scene after killing them and then turn my back on them, staying there for like three minutes; which I did and nobody will see me.
“Baba said the spirits of the victims will come to him after I killed them. Baba did not tell me the reason for the killings, but does buy me food and gives me N500 after each of the killings I carried out for him.”
But the herbalist denied the accusations, saying the suspect was brought to him by his parents to learn about herbs.
“The boy was brought to me in 2016 and only spent six days with me and I sent him away and since then I have not seen him,” the herbalist said.
“I only saw him some days ago when he came with the police, though I do give him food.”
The CP said the 19-year-old suspect was arrested through a phone he stole from one of the victims, Azeezat Shomuyiwa, and he later led operatives of the special anti-robbery squad to the hideout of the herbalist.
Enwonwu said the modus operandi of the suspect was to target female victims and attack them with dangerous weapons, rob them before hacking them to death.
He said the suspect confessed to masterminding various criminal activities within Ojo’o, Akinyele and Moniya areas of Ibadan.
“He attacked and killed an 18-year-old, Barakat Bello, on June 1; attacked and killed 21-year-old Grace Oshiagwu on June 13; killed five-year-old Mojeed Tirimisiyu on June 22, all in Akinyele,” Enwonwu said.
“His last operation was carried out on June 29 when he attacked Mrs Adeola Azeez and her daughter with a shovel.
“The duo were seriously injured on the head. He carted away their phones and money. The victims are currently responding to treatment at the hospital.”

Nwajiuba noted that staying home and learning in a safe environment will address learners and educators’ basic physical safety needs and also ensure that all learners and their family members remain safe.
“This means that all education environments must be inclusive irrespective of location, access to the internet, and socio-economic background,” he added.
Furthermore, the Minister announced actions recommended to safeguard the health, safety and security of learners accessing remote learning while ensuring that quality outcomes are obtainable:
These include: “Conduct online training that not only prepares teachers to teach in a way that safeguards the health, safety, and security of the learners but also enables them to facilitate learning using 21st-century pedagogy based on Information and Communications Technology, (ICT).

LAND OF CORPORATE FRAUDSTERS !! Nigeria to UK court: Shasore, former Lagos AG, colluded with P&ID to avert justice

Nigeria to UK court: Shasore, former Lagos AG, colluded with P&ID to avert justice

The federal government says Olasupo Shasore, the former attorney-general of Lagos state, colluded with Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) to avert justice in the controversial gas supply purchasing agreement (GSPA) contract.
P&ID, an engineering and project management company, entered a gas supply and processing agreement with Nigeria in 2010.
The company claimed Nigeria breached the terms of the contract, and it took a legal recourse and secured an arbitral award against the country, which has accumulated to $9.6 billion.
Nigeria has however challenged the arbitral award and is currently making a case before a UK court.
An arbitration document seen by TheCable revealed that Nigeria argued before the Business and Property Courts of England and Wales that Shasore made payment of $200,000 to senior lawyers at the ministry of petroleum resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to buy their silence.
The federal government argued that Shasore made the payment so the lawyers do not speak up on his conduct to work against Nigeria’s interest.
Federal government had initially paid Shasore $2 million for his services to defend Nigeria in the case being made by P&ID. But in a recent turn of events, the government is accusing the former Lagos commissioner of justice of entering a dishonest agreement with P&ID.
“It has also come to light during the course of the EFCC’s investigations that: Mr Shasore was paid US$2 million for his involvement in the first and second stages of the arbitration,” Nigeria’s counsel said in the document seen by TheCable.
It added, for context, that “the average salary of a government lawyer in Nigeria is just US$5,000”.
The government, represented by Mark Howard, Philip Riches and Tom Pascoe, said “Shasore concealed his involvement in the case from his own firm, Ajumogobia & Okeke”.
“He conducted the proceedings covertly through a separate firm, Twenty Marina, which had no background in litigation and was used to provide secretarial services,” they argued.
“Mr Shasore made payments of US$100,000 each to Mrs Adelore and Mr Oguine, who were senior lawyers for the MPR and the NNPC at the time: paragraphs 44-45 above.
“The most likely explanation is that these payments were intended to purchase the silence of Mrs Adelore and Mr Oguine in relation to Mr Shasore’s conduct of the arbitration.
“Based on these payments, Mr Shasore was clearly dishonest and corruptible (and, as set out above, P&ID had a track record of corruption).
“Following the election of President Buhari into office, and the transfer of the conduct of the arbitration to the MoJ for the liability phase, Mr Shasore refused to meet with the Attorney General and complained that it was ‘unacceptable and unconscionable to liaise with [the AG’s] office on the matter as he had always liaised with the MPR since commencement of the proceedings'”.

NIGERIA: SHASORE LIKELY ARRANGED WITH P&ID

The federal government also argued that Shasore likely entered into a “dishonest arrangement” with P&ID to scuttle the process.
“As described below, and in Schedule 2, Mr Shasore’s conduct of the first two stages of the arbitration was truly egregious.
“He chose not to seek any disclosure, to accept all material aspects of Mr Quinn’s witness evidence, and did not seek to cross-examine anyone at P&ID on the key issue in the case: whether P&ID could and would have performed the GSPA.
“In light of the indicators of fraud listed above, the most likely explanation for this is that Mr Shasore had entered into a dishonest arrangement with P&ID not to challenge its evidence or seek any disclosure, with the inevitable result that FRN lost the case.
“Mr Shasore’s failure to challenge Mr Quinn’s evidence. A chronology of Mr Shasore’s egregious conduct in the arbitration, which the Court is invited to read in full, is appended as Schedule 2 to this skeleton argument. On 6 May 2015 the Tribunal ordered by consent that FRN within two days, by 8 May 2015.”

NIGERIA ASKS FOR RELIEF FROM SANCTIONS

Nigeria went on to ask the court for extension of time and relief from sanctions initially placed on the country.
“For the reasons above, the Court is therefore invited to grant FRN’s applications for an extension of time and relief from sanctions.
“If the Court is minded to do so, the next step would be to give directions for a trial of the substantive fraud allegations. FRN suggests that a short procedural hearing be listed after the Court’s judgment is handed down to deal with these issues.”
Nigeria has been making moves to overturn the judgement and has gotten court clearance to request documents from a P&ID stakeholder and review bank statements of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Diezani Alison-Madueke and Rilwanu Lukman, former ministers of petroleum.
