PL : Two-match bans for diving

Getty

Players who win a significant advantage by diving will face a retrospective two-match ban in new rules being introduced by the FA this season.

The governing body are hoping the change will act as a strong deterrent to players attempting to deliberately deceive match officials but will only be made on incidents deemed a clear violation of the rules.
Incidents do not necessarily have to be included in a referee's 'extraordinary incident report', with the FA willing to investigate 'not seen' matters from all four divisions, but they are keen to avoid rigorously reviewing every contentious matter.

Incidents will be dealt with by an independent panel comprising of an ex-player, former manager and ex-referee, drawn from a list of around 14 individuals currently being drafted by the FA.
These individuals will be chosen to avoid any links to the clubs concerned, including potential rivals, and their decision must be unanimous.
Any player who is mistakenly sent off as a result of an opponent diving will have their red card overturned, and the FA will also increase the length of bans for recurring offenders.

The rule change comes into immediate effect, meaning it will apply to the opening match of the new EFL season, which begins live on Sky Sports on Friday night with Nottingham Forest against Millwall.
The FA has also announced a significant increase the amount of drug testing in English football for the new season. A total of 5000 tests will take place compared to 3000 in 2016-17. - Sky Sport

Transfer updates :Spurs target Toljan valued at £15m

Hoffenheim value Tottenham target Jeremy Toljan in the region of £15m, Sky Sports News understands.

The 22-year-old Germany U21 right-back is of interest to Spurs as they look to replace Kyle Walker.
Toljan has just a year left on his current contract but Hoffenheim are understood to value him just a few million less than defender Niklas Sule, whom they recently sold to Bayern Munch for £17m.
Spurs are yet to make an official approach for Toljan but Hoffenheim have had solid enquiries from clubs in Spain and Italy, according to Sky sources.

Toljan impressed for Germany's U21s as they won the recent European Championships in Poland, and he has made 54 Bundesliga appearances and scored two goals.
He can also play at left-back and fits Mauricio Pochettino's profile for a fast, attacking full-back that can cross the ball well, and is being considered after they cooled their interest in Porto's Ricardo Pereira.

The Portuguese club have indicated to potential buying clubs that they may have to pay Pereira's full £22m release clause, after previously showing a willingness to negotiate a lower fee.

Claudio Villa/Getty Images Sport

According to Tutto Sport, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is considering a move back to AC Milan after being released by Manchester United.

Ibrahimovic left United at the beginning of the transfer window after not signing a contract extension due to a knee injury he suffered in the Europa League in April.

The 35-year-old shone in his last spell at AC Milan, making 85 appearances, scoring 56 and assisting 24.

If Milan do bring in Ibrahimovic then it would make this summer a great window for them, bringing in the likes of Andre Silva, Hakan Calhanoglu and Leonardo Bonucci already.
The Swedish forward has had a glistening career, in total, making 705 appearances, scoring 417 goals and assisting 165 times in spells in leagues such us the Premier League, Ligue 1, Serie A, La Liga and the Eredivisie.

PL news : Sanchez back in Arsenal training with a smile

AlexisSanchez-cropped: Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez returned to training with Arsenal on Tuesday as speculation continues to swirl over the Chile star’s future.

Sanchez was granted additional leave by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after helping Chile to the final of the Confederations Cup, where they were beaten 1-0 by world champions Germany.
He became his country’s all-time leading goalscorer during the tournament but events on the field sometimes felt like a sideshow amid mounting rumours the 28-year-old was keen on a reunion with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Sanchez is out of contract at the end of this season and Wenger has suggested he is happy for the forward and playmaker Mesut Ozil to proceed without signing new deals.
Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to hold an interest in Sanchez, although it is one seemingly secondary to their world-record pursuit of Barcelona superstar Neymar.
"It is an ideal situation - everyone has to perform," Wenger said.

"In the future you will see that more and more, players going to the end of their contract. Why? Because transfers become so high, even for normal players, they will go to the end of the contract because no one will want to pay the amount of money that is demanded.
"I am convinced that in the next 10 years that will become usual."

Illness resulted in a further extension to Sanchez’s lay-off over the weekend as he sat out Arsenal’s 5-2 Emirates Cup win over Benfica on Saturday, but he was all smiles on a training picture that the Premier League published on their official Twitter account. - Goal

Military : Israelis to train 450 Nigerian Special Forces

Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has approved the training of three batches of Special Forces of 450 carefully selected Regiment personnel from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The training, which commenced in Kaduna at the weekend, is being handled by Four-Troop, a military training organisation from Israel.
A statement from the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, said the training is taking place at the NAF Regiment Training Centre in Kaduna.
Adesanya said it was “aimed at further developing the capacity of the personnel to fight under all types of terrains and weather conditions”.

He said successful participants would be deployed to defend NAF air assets and bases as well as critical national infrastructure and assets like airports and oil installations, among others, at the end of the nine-week training programme.
“ The Special Forces would also be required to take the battle to the adversaries whenever necessary,” he added.
Adesanya said: “While flagging off the training of the first batch of 150 personnel, the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Samson Akpasa, stated that a robust counter-force to respond to any contingency was vital in Nigeria’s contemporary security environment, which was characterised by insurgency, militancy, oil theft, cattle-rustling, kidnapping and other vices.”

He added that as conflicts become more complex and diverse, a force multiplier unit such as the Special Forces would enable the tactical commander gain an upper hand in battle.
The Air Force spokesman, therefore, urged the trainees to be physically fit, mentally alert and psychologically sound to learn and assimilate instructions that would be passed to them in the course of their training programme. - The Nation

The petitioner, 50, who resides at No. 43, Nova Road, Oppopogbooro, Ado-Ekiti, told the court that the respondent was having extra marital affairs with different men.
He accused Mojisola of having extra marital relationship with a traditional chief in Ado and another man in Ilawe.

After hearing from both parties, the President of ‎the Court, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi adjourned the case until Sept.12, for judgment.

More than half of Nigeria’s VAT comes from Lagos - Adeosun

Adeosun: More than half of Nigeria’s VAT comes from Lagos
Kemi Adeosun, minister for finance, says more than half of Nigeria’s value added tax (VAT) comes from Lagos state alone.

Speaking at the parley between the federal government and progressive governors forum (PGF) in Abuja on Tuesday, Adeosun said the 87 percent of Nigeria’s VAT is derived from four states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In other words, only 13 percent of Nigeria’s VAT comes from 32 other states in the federation.

According to her no country in the world with high tax compliance rate is poor, and no rich country has a low tax compliance rate.
“There is no poor country that has a high tax compliance rate, and no rich country that has a low one,” Adeosun said.

Quoting current VAT collection data across Nigeria, the minister said “55% of Nigeria’s VAT is collected in Lagos State. 20% in FCT, 6% in Rivers, 5% in Kano, 1% in Kaduna”.
“I’m hoping that one day Finance Commissioners will stop needing to come to Abuja monthly to share FAAC, because IGR (internally generated revenue) will be sufficient.”

The minister had earlier complained about the country’s abysmal tax-to-GDP ratio, which she said was at six percent, further stating it to be one of the lowest in the world.
Speaking on the topic “The Funding Nigeria Needs,” the minister says the states must do more to generate revenue from with and not solely depend on the federal government for federal allocation. - Cable Nigeria

PL news : Chelsea and Terry in clear with FA over substitution

JohnTerry-Cropped: Chelsea captain John Terry leaves the field in his final Stamford Bridge appearance

Chelsea and John Terry will face no action from the Football Association over the former club captain's ceremonial substitution on the final day of last season.

Terry brought down the curtain on a career-long association with Chelsea by being replaced after 26 minutes of the 5-1 win over Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
The ex-England skipper revealed it was his idea to make way in the same minute as the squad number he wore with distinction over the course of 19 years.

In response to reports of punters winning sizable sums of money by putting bets on the Terry substitution, the FA's Integrity Department asked betting companies to provide any relevant information on the matter.
The governing body have since found no evidence to suggest information on the incident was provided to inform betting patterns, nor was there any attempt at so-called spot fixing. - Goal

PL title : Giggs labels Manchester City favourites

ManchesterCity - cropped: Manchester City

Manchester United great Ryan Giggs believes Manchester City are the frontrunners for the Premier League title this season.

City welcomed Pep Guardiola to the Etihad Stadium last term but performed below expectations under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss as they missed out on major honours on the way to a third-place finish.
Guardiola has sought to address shortfalls in his squad by spending heavily, primarily at full-back with the acquisitions of Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy.

Playmaker Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson have also arrived from Monaco and Benfica respectively and Giggs believes City have bolstered an already imposing collection of forward talents impressively.
"I think Manchester City are the team to beat," Giggs told Sky Sports.

"I looked at them towards the end of last season and the forward players they've got is scary, with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling.
"What they needed to get right was their defence and it will be interesting to see how Ederson settles in, because you don't win the Premier League with an average goalkeeper.
"They've obviously invested heavily on full-backs but the question is still whether Vincent Kompany can stay fit because his influence and experience are key for them." - Goal

Transfer updates : Anderlecht name price for Chelsea target Dendoncker

Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images Sport

Now Chelsea have finalised the £40m sale of Nemanja Matic to Premier League rivals Manchester United, they are expected to be on the lookout for another central midfielder to bring to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been linked with a move for Anderlecht standout Leander Dendoncker in recent times and perhaps Antonio Conte will now consider firming up his interest in the player now Matic is gone.
Speaking out about his situation earlier this summer, Dendoncker says he is yet to decide his future:
“These are great clubs but I still do not know anything, I will talk to my agent and then we will see.”
“I’m waiting for his opinion, I’m focused on the national team and after that, I’ll decide.”
Manchester United are also interested in the 22-year-old who impressed over two legs against United in the Europa League last season.

Anderlecht’s sporting director Herman van Holsbeek has discussed Dendoncker’s situation at the club and admits that big enough offers would be a problem.
“We want to cherish him, but if a club is willing to pay between €25m and €35m then we have a problem.”
“He showed twice against Manchester United that he has the potential to play at a top European club.”
“We are lucky that the Champions League does not start until September, otherwise we definitely would have lost him.”
It’s Holsbeek’s desire to have the Belgium international stay put for one more season before allowing him to move onto bigger and better things next summer.
“We would like to see Leander stay here for one more season and work together on a transfer for next summer – just as we did with [Youri] Tielemans [who joined Monaco earlier this summer].”

Biafra : ‘New’ leader declares secession, names Gana, Utomi, Soludo as ministers

EXTRA: ‘New’ Biafra leader declares secession, names Gana, Utomi, Soludo as ministers
Benjamin Onwuka, leader of the Biafra Zionist Federation (BZF), on Monday declared an independent “Republic of Biafra” and named himself president.

And he even said it is not a joke!
Onwuka named Jerry Gana, who is from Niger, and Labaran Maku, from Nasarawa, as ministers of transportation and aviation.
Pat Utomi was announced as the foreign minister and Nnia Nwodo, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, was named ambassador of the Biafran Republic to the US.
While he appointed Chukwuma Soludo as governor of central bank of Biafra, the BZF leader appointed Barth Nnaji, a former power minister, as energy minister.

Arunma Oteh, a former director-general of securities and exchange commission, was named the Biafran minister of finance.
He said Beni Lar, a member of the house of representatives from Plateau, would be secretary to the government of the federation, while Amarachi Ubani and Mary Okafor, were named ministers for information and trade and industry, respectively.
Onwuka named Gabriel Oluwole Osagie as minister of education and Philip Effiong as health minister.

Onwuka said the republic will officially come to life on Tuesday while he also reeled out the names of the ministers in his cabinet and their portfolios.
He claimed that ex-US president Barack Obama supported the independence of Biafra Republic before leaving office, although he did not provide any evidence to back his claim.
“We have formed an interim government that will be in place till the next 30 days. The interim government will take off on August 1 and last till August 31, 2017,” he said.

“America is behind the Biafra people because former President Barrack Obama already endorsed Biafra before he left office and President Donald Trump will not go against it considering that it has formed part of America’s foreign policy.”
He called on Niger Delta militants leaders to support the new republic and defend them.
“I am also calling on the avengers, the militants to come out from the creeks and join us to defend and protect Biafra. I’m beckoning on Asari Dokubo, Tompolo, Ateke Tom to come out and join us. I am calling on all our boys in Biafra land to come out. I’m not afraid, the US is with us.”

His announcement elicited laughter from journalists present at the declaration of secession in Enugu.
Reacting, Onwuka who did not name a vice-president, said: “This is not a laughing matter.” - Cable Nigeria

Face of fraudster: How Tunde Ayeni wrecked Skye Bank, management writes Osinbajo

EXCLUSIVE: How Tunde Ayeni wrecked Skye Bank, management writes Osinbajo
The management of Skye Bank Plc has written to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, detailing how Tunde Ayeni, chairman of the bank between 2010 and 2016, allegedly wrecked the financial institution.

In a series of letters and documents seen by TheCable, the management listed details of how Ayeni allegedly used his office to perpetrate illegality.
After sending several warnings, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had taken over Skye Bank on July 4, 2016.
Godwin Emefiele, governor of CBN, said then that the action followed the failure of the lender to meet the regulator’s minimum key liquidity and capital adequacy ratios.
Ayeni had resigned after the development and CBN announced the appointment of Muhammad Ahmad as the new chairman, while Adetokunbo Abiru took over from Timothy Oguntayo as group managing director (GMD).

SUSPENSE ACCOUNT

In the letter signed by Abiru and Ahmad, the bank gave details of how Ayeni allegedly used loans from the bank to acquire major government companies.
“Upon the assumption of duty by the new board, one of the immediate concerns that needed to be addressed was to ascertain the true state of the affairs and financial position of the bank and the credibility of the IT and information systems of the bank,” the letter read.

Skye

“To this end, the following were undertaken: engagement of PWC do to half-year audit as of June 30, 2016. This was later extended to cover the full year to December 31, 2016.
“Engagement of KPMG to do a forensic audit of the bank’s IT platform and management information systems.
“The forensic audit revealed that the bank operated two sets of financial accountability/books and this was responsive for the regulators/auditors inability to detect the massive losses and infractions, particularly the balance of N280bn in suspense accounts.

INDUSTRY INDEBTEDNESS

“The bank’s total exposure to Ayeni as of the date is about N70bn. It is clear that he used his position as the chairman of the bank to obtain inside loans well above the regulatory thresholds for the acquisition of the following government enterprises: Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Yola Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Nitel/Mtel. All the facilities are presently seriously challenged.
“As of today, Ayeni’s total industry indebtedness, covering both Nitel and the Electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) is estimated at about N150bn, and little, if any, of these obligations, are being doubtful that he will ever be in a position to service these loans satisfactorily.”

The letter also said another N33 billion was traced to Ayeni, saying there was suspicion that that out of this amount, N7 billion was spent on the re-election campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The sum of N7bn was disbursed without due process to various individuals and corporate organisations on the request of Godknows Igali, a former permanent secretary of the federal ministry of power,” it read.

“The monies appear to have been expended essentially on the Jonathan-Sambo electoral campaign in 2015. That sum remains outstanding as at today.
“There is ample evidence that he (Ayeni), among others, received large amounts of cash, totalling N29.5bn, from the bank, which appears to be connected to the purchase of Mainstreet Bank Limited, but which has not been accounted for.
“He was instrumental in the approval and disbursement of the liquidity management which went on throughout his tenure.”

‘SEIZE ASSETS’

The management recommended that the government assist it to seize Ayeni’s assets.
“The former chairman should be brought to account for his central role in many of the identified infractions,” it read.
“We have been able to perfect the debenture on the fixed and floating assets of Natcom, the vehicle that was used for the acquisition of Nitel and Mtel with asset estimated at N282bn (Open market value) and N183bn (forced sale value) by Knight Frank in 2014.

“This will put us in a position to place the company into receivership for recovery. However, in order to come to fruition, this approach will require strong and unyielding support from the regulatory and political authorities in the country.”
The management also indicted Akinsola Akinfewa, Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti and Oguntayo, all former GMDs of the bank.
Other individuals listed in the petition for various acts of infraction are Femi Otedola, chairman Forte Oil Plc, Festus Fadeyi and Jide Omokore. - Cable Nigeria

Shocking !!! Man killed family to hide secret from fiancee

Kristen Baxter and Brett Ryan.

Last year August 25, 2016, Brett Ryan killed his mother and two of his brothers.

The Canadian, now aged 36, was due to be married in three weeks and he was terrified his secret – that he was unemployed and without any qualifications – would make his partner re-consider their wedding.
His fiancée, physiotherapist Kristen Baxter, knew he was an ex-con, News Corp reports. Years before, Ryan had been convicted for a series of bank robberies.

He served jail time for posing as an older man – the media dubbing him the “Fake Beard Bandit” – and committing a series of heists throughout Toronto and Durham during 2007 and 2008, The Toronto Sun reports.
Baxter knew all this before saying “yes” to his proposal. She moved in with Ryan in 2013 and the pair were engaged in 2014.
What she didn’t know was that Ryan had lost his job in May 2016 because his employer had found out about his criminal past, and that he had never graduated university.

Three weeks before the wedding, Ryan told his mother, Susan, about his web of lies. She gave him an ultimatum: tell your fiancé, and I will support you financially until you find another job, or I will tell her myself.

It became a death sentence.
In an elaborate plan, Ryan set up a cross bow in his mother’s garage. He also put together a string of electronic devices, designed to send emails from his account at different locations and provide him with an alibi.
Tensions came to a head on August 25 in a confrontation between Ryan and his mother. Susan called her older son, Christopher, for help.
Ryan stabbed his mother, then strangled her to death. He ambushed Christopher with the cross bow, shooting him in the back of the head. The youngest brother, Alexander, was also fatally stabbed collapsing in the driveway after confronting Ryan.

The fourth brother, Leigh, who lived in his mother’s home, ran to call emergency services after hearing the commotion. Ryan attacked him, too. But Leigh got away.
On Friday, Ryan pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for killing his mother Susan, 66, and his brother, Alexander, 29, The Toronto Sun reports. He also pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of his oldest brother, Christopher, 42, and the attempted murder of Leigh, 38.

According to The Toronto Sun, Ryan was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years for the first-degree murder, as well as two concurrent life sentences, and a 10-year sentence, for the other killings and the attempted murder.

He confessed the violence was in an attempt to prevent his fiancé from finding out about his unemployment and lack-of-qualification.
“This is an extremely tragic case — an entire family has been destroyed by a web of lies,” Justice John McMahon, who presided on the case, concluded. - Mamamia

The German says his team have an improved squad and is upbeat ahead of the new campaign.

Klopp said: "We will be playing for the championship. We don't start a season by not having any ambitions.
"We have to have our goals. That's what we did last season. We aimed for the top, and we finished fourth. But I think we have a very good team now.

"We did have a bit of bad luck last season. I think we can play a little bit better. Let's hope everything will work very well and that there isn't much more to improve. We have to work very hard on it and we're doing that."

Miserable country !!! Generator fume kills family of 4 in Kogi

Obajana area of Kogi State was weekend thrown into mourning following the discovery of the decomposing bodies of a man, his wife and two children in their building.
The man was identified as Mr John Oluwasegun Ayodele

The family of four was suspected to have been killed by fume from a power generator mounted in the house.
The late Ayodele was reported to have been last seen on Friday 28th July, 2017.
Apprehension reportedly set in when the deceased was not seen by his neighbors the following day.
Tension heightened over his continued indoor till Saturday evening with calls on his mobile telephone unanswered.

His cousin, Chief Richard Asaje said they had gone to check on him at home following the stench that was emanating from his house in Obajana.

Consequently, policemen from Obajana Division were alerted and when the door was forced open, the decomposing bodies were discovered.
Asaje explained that power generator fume was suspected as the cause, following the discovery of a power generator there.
According to him, “The incident happened between Friday/Saturday. It should be around 12am Saturday. He put a generator inside his toilet and locked the door. The house is a concrete building and it was discovered that he locked the window.

“Unfortunately, we never knew something had happened the second day; so, we forced the door open following the stench emanating from the house.”
“The Husband should be around 35, but the wife is less than 30 years. The daughter that died is around four years and the last born is a boy and is about three months.
“To us as a family, it is a shocking thing but there is no suspect because their death was caused by the fume of the generator. It has indeed thrown the family into serious mourning mood.

“The entire family will be laid to mother earth on Friday 4th August, 2017 at Obajana Cemetery,” Asaje concluded.
Describing the incident as sudden and unnatural death, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, Asp William Aya said “four people died and we got the information. The police Divisional Police officer went to the place and evacuated the body to the mortuary.

“The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained. It is the autopsy that will ascertain the cause of the death.”
Meanwhile the Kogi State Government has sent a team to Obajana to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of the family of four.
Speaking during an interview with DAILY POST on Monday, the Commissioner for Environment, Kogi State Mrs Rosemary Osikoya explained that his Ministry will liaise with other agencies in the sensitization of the public on the dangers of carbon dioxide and monoxide in their Environment.

“Looking at it from the environmental point of view and the circumstantial evidence available, we have a generator put in an enclosed place, if what we hear is correct, you will find out that there is not enough of it going out, so that possibly could lead to poisoning.
“But until the investigations are complete, there may not be much we could do other than to sensitize the public that it is dangerous to allow their generator to be within their house or sitting rooms. - Daily Post

Faces of corruption : We have overwhelming evidence of Amaechi’s corrupt acts – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo, Wike has declared that he has overwhelming evidence of corruption against the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing the 106th Quarterly Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Wike said that Amaechi admitted paying $39million for a non-existent Justice Karibi Whyte Mega Specialist Hospital.

He added that the Minister of Transport confessed publicly that he sold the State’s Gas Turbines.

Governor Wike said: “All the documents that proved Amaechi’s corrupt acts are authentic. We never forged documents. The former governor himself admitted that he paid out $39million to Clinotech, without a single block laid anywhere. Is that a document he claims was forged. Where is the Hospital?

“He has agreed in different interviews that he sold the state gas turbines for $309million. Convert $309million United States dollars to naira and you will understand the level of fraud. Amaechi left only $204,000 in the state account.
“The bank statements of the pattern of withdrawals from that account are there for all to see. Can that be forged? The dates and amounts withdrawn are clearly written”.

The governor berated the Minister for engaging in the blackmail of the Supreme Court because his appeal is pending before the Apex Court over the establishment of the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry

“There is no time that he loses a case without blackmailing the Judiciary. He feels that the only way he can do it is to blackmail the Supreme Court. You cannot play politics with everything “.
On the use of hotels for electoral fraud, the governor warned that any hotel that opens its facility for such illegal practice will lose its operational certificate of occupancy.
He said: “Any hotel that is used to rig elections, that hotel’s certificate of occupancy will be withdrawn”.

He further regretted Amaechi has continued to work against the interest of the State, refusing to use his position as a Minister to attract benefits to the people. - Daily Post

Stupidity !!! ‘Govt hopes on Dangote Refinery to end fuel import’

The Federal Government is waiting on the completion of work on Dangote refinery to fulfil its promise to Nigerians to end fuel importation by December 2019, Minister of State Petroleum Ibe Kachikwu, said yesterday.

He spoke during a visit to the Dangote Oil Refinery site at the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos. According to him, the government was ready to play its part to assist in making sure the project is completed on schedule.
The minister said: “It is good to say that private sector is the answer to Nigerian’s problems with a project as big as this. The challenge I will give you today is that of time, I see your time for completion is 2019 December but I am sure you will understand my greed if I tell you that the refinery component of this project should come earlier than the set date.

“I have made very firm commitment to Nigerians that I must stop the importation of petroleum products by 2019 and I am going to keep to it. It is absolutely important that we do this early and given the feat that we have achieved in terms of speed of construction and I urge you to do all within you to achieve its completion before the due date.”

Dangote said he had accepted the challenge and would do all possible to achieve the feat.
“We are going to make it by the grace of God. I am sure the minister will support us to make sure that we meet his challenge.
“What the minister is trying to do is the best so far for our country, his own version is that Nigeria should not think of exporting crude, you know the problem we have in Africa is that we only export raw materials, not finished goods, so he is saying that, look, we should all do this by adding value and I pray that even at 2.5million barrels, we should not export much, in terms of the crude.
“We will go back and see what to do to make this happen by fast tracking our processes since the Minister has assured of government’s cooperation and support”

Dangote explained that his group was building the world’s largest single line Refinery, Petrochemical Complex and the world’s second largest Urea Fertiliser plant. The Refinery, according to him will have the capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.  The Petrochemical Plant will produce 780 KTPA Polypropylene, 500 KTPA of Polyethylene while the Fertiliser project will produce 3.0 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) of Urea.

“In addition, we are also building the largest sub-sea pipeline infrastructure in any country in the world, with a length of 1,100km, to handle 3 billion SCF of gas per day. We also plan to construct a 570 MW power plant in this complex. As a matter of fact, gas from our gas pipeline will augment the natural domestic gas supply and we estimate an additional 12,000MW of power generation can be added to the grid with the additional gas from our system.

“We will be adding value to our economy as all these projects will be creating about 4,000 direct and 145,000 indirect jobs. We will also save over $7.5billion for Nigeria annually, through import substitution and generate an additional $5.5billion per annum through exports of the refined petroleum products, fertilizer and petro chemicals. We envisage that these projects, which would cost over $18billion, would be completed in 2019.” - The Nation

Previous regime stole so much that those currently in power have nothing to steal - Sowore

Sowore: Previous regime stole so much that those currently in power have nothing to steal
Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, says officials of the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan stole so much that the current government officials do not get enough to steal.

Speaking at the Tracking Faulty Towers workshop which held at the University of Kent, London, on Saturday, Sowore jocularly said President Muhammadu Buhari became sick as a result of the money stolen in Nigeria.
He also accused Buhari of “shielding some thieves within his cabinet”.
“The United States of America has one of the most corrupt streets in the world; it is called Wall street. When you are talking about corruption, Nigeria is not the most corrupt country in the world,” he said.

“I think its the United States and you guys in England. I just want to quickly respond to the fact that we are happy Nigeria is no longer one of the 10 most corrupt countries in the world by perception.
“That process of actually determining corrupt countries is against third world countries, considering the fact that monies that are stolen from our part of the world pass through Western banks, particularly the UK, US and Switzerland.

“When you are talking about corruption, we should actually be accusing Switzerland as one of the most corrupt countries in the world, because monies that are stolen from poor people from Congo, Nigeria, everywhere in the world passes through these secret bank accounts and it’s unfair to continue to say that we are the most corrupt.

“But we have a duty to challenge our leaders and challenge the primitive accumulation of wealth. The reason why Nigeria was not part of the 10 most corrupt countries this time around is that the former regime has stolen so much and there is nothing left to steal. As a result there is no way Nigeria could have become one of those corrupt countries in the last two years.”

He said corruption thrives in Nigeria because of the weak institutions and compared Nigeria’s anti-corruption mechanisms with that of more developed countries.
Sowore also said western countries accepting loot from Nigeria should be blacklisted.

Bolaji Owanasoye, executive secretary of the presidential advisory committee against corruption (PACAC), also admitted that Nigeria is improving in its fight against “the infamous tag”.
“I am very happy to read recently that Nigeria is not among the top ten corrupt countries in the world,” Owanasoye said.
“That is an improvement that shows something is being done right to fight corruption and crime in the country.”

He commended the current administration for introducing the whistleblowing policy and challenged the citizens to take up the task of reporting corruption if the policy ends up being reversed.
“Nigeria whistleblowing policy is celebrated because of reward attached to it but if revoked tomorrow, citizens should still be devoted to report corruption and crimes,” he said.
“A pervasive and endemic culture of silence which allows corruption and sin to thrive is one of the challenges the Nigeria whistle blower policy face.

“The culture of acquiescence which makes corruption appear legitimate is also a challenge we have in Nigeria.
“Nigerians have both moral and legal duties to report crime and corruption as it enhances rule of law and peace of security of society.
“The inability to improve rule of law and governance in a weak state reinforces underdevelopment and vice-versa. - Cable Nigeria

Transfer news : PSG make plans for unveiling ahead of £197m deal for Barcelona’s Neymar

Barcelona's Neymar during the International Champions Cup match against Real Madrid: Neymar has been in China for one of his sponsors and may fly from there to Doha to meet PSG’s Qatari owners and for a medical.

Paris Saint-Germain are so confident of signing Neymar that they were on Monday preparing his unveiling. They hope to conclude a deal this week to buy the forward from Barcelona for a world record £197m, the Brazilian’s release clause.

A five-year contract has been ready for several days and just needs to be signed. When PSG bought Zlatan Ibrahimovic five summers ago they welcomed him on the Trocadéro at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The club are planning something even bigger for Neymar.

The 25-year-old was on Monday in China for one of his sponsors and may fly from there to Doha to meet PSG’s Qatari owners and for a medical. The French club have been working hard to seal a deal for two weeks, since Neymar’s entourage contacted them in the knowledge that the player wanted out of Barcelona.

The structure of the transfer, including Neymar’s £26m-a-year salary, is not yet known but PSG are adamant they will respect financial fair play regulations. To make sure they do not expose themselves to sanctions they are preparing to sacrifice some members of the squad.
Ángel Di María carries the likely highest value, at around £45m, among the players the club are willing to sell. Serge Aurier is expected to leave for around £20m and Blaise Matuidi, who has one year left on his contract, could fetch a similar fee. Hatem Ben Arfa, Jesé and Grzegorz Krychowiak were already on the transfer list.

The right-winger Lucas is unlikely to be sold as he has a very close relationship with Neymar, a friend since the age of six, and could be useful for integrating his compatriot.
In response to suggestions that Barcelona may make a complaint over financial fair play, a Uefa spokesman said: “We haven’t received any complaint regarding this matter but, irrespective of whether we receive a complaint or not, we would in any case look into the details of such a transfer if it goes ahead to ensure that it respects financial fair play rules.

“The impact of a potential transfer of Neymar to PSG would have an effect on the club finances over several years. It is very difficult to judge this type of operation in advance as we do not know the plans of the French club. They could well sell a few players for a similar or even superior amount. We shall therefore only make calculations at the end and make sure that they respect the rules.”

“PSG must respect financial fair play rules as do all other clubs in Europe. They must demonstrate that they do not have losses of more than €30m over three years. - The Guardian
