Boko Haram burning houses in Chibok

Boko Haram burning houses in Chibok
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents are currently burning houses in Gatamwarwa ward, Chibok local government area of Borno state.
The insurgents came in around 5pm through Askira, shooting sporadically leaving many villagers running for safety.
“They came in tens of motorcycles. They started shooting and setting houses ablaze,” a resident told TheCable.
Gatamwarwa is about 19 kilometres away from Chibok town.
Sources told TheCable that troops from 117 battalion in Chibok and 115 battalion in Askira have moved in to repel the attack.
In December, the insurgents attacked Makalama, another village in Gatamawarwa ward. Bwalakia villagers were also attacked three days after the Makalama attack, burning houses and leaving villagers stranded.
“They looted and burnt everything we have. We don’t have what to eat and we don’t have where to sleep,” one of the victims had told TheCable.
In November, Abubakar Elkanemi, shehu of Borno, had said the people of the state were still under Boko Haram siege.
As of the time this report was filed, Sagir Musa, army spokesman, had not responded to to TheCable’s message seeking information on the recent attack.

PL NEWS : Liverpool refuse to sell Mane at any price

Liverpool have made it clear that they will not accept a bid for Sadio Mane this summer, regardless of the price.
The Senegal forward has been in elective form in recent months, scoring 11 times since the turn of the year, with seven of those coming in his last five games.

Such has his form for the Reds been impressive that he has once again been linked with a move to Real Madrid, where manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly a long-term admirer.
As such, Real Madrid have apparently identified Mane as a key target in a planned squad overhaul at the Bernabeu this summer.
However, Mane signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool in November, tying him to the club until 2023, and the Reds have no interest in seeing that deal cut short.
According to Mirror Sport, this means that the Reds will turn down any and all offers they receive for the former Southampton man this summer.
Mane doesn’t have a buyout clause in his contract with Liverpool, and the club also don’t believe he will try to push for a move once the season ends.

FA set to rebrand as EFA in attempt to shed ‘arrogant’ image

The Football Association is seeking to rebrand as the English Football Association in an attempt to dispel a perception of arrogance from counterparts in the international game.
The case for renaming the governing body was discussed by the FA board at its meeting at Wembley on Thursday having long been a bug-bear of the outgoing chief executive, Martin Glenn. He described the name as “the ultimate expression of arrogance” shortly after his appointment in 2015 but has had to wait until the final few months of his tenure to address the issue properly.
Glenn and the FA chairman, Greg Clarke, put forward the case for rebranding to reflect the modern role of the organisation. The governance of the game in England would be overseen by the English FA, with the board discussing a proposal that would see the 28 England teams, national players, coaches, grassroots football and facilities come under the umbrella of “England Football”. The FA would remain the legal entity name of the organisation, and the name of the holding company.
The governing body is considering putting forward England as a potential host for the 2030 World Cup – it has been conducting a feasibility study since last summer, and spoke to executives from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland regarding a possible joint bid – but accepts it will need to build stronger relationships globally to gain international support. The Uefa president, Aleksander Ceferin, has praised the FA of late for overhauling the “arrogant” image of English football, with the rebranding part of that process.
The move would not prompt the renaming of the FA Cup, FA council, FA board or county FAs but would formalise a process that has seen FA officials refer to the “English FA” in recent international meetings. Rival federations have long resented the implication that, by calling themselves the Football Association, the English authorities have somehow set themselves apart.
“I think we are perceived as arrogant,” Glenn explained early in his tenure. “I don’t think we necessarily are but perceptions ... it does matter. We go to international conventions and say: ‘Hi, I’m Martin Glenn and I am from the FA.’ Which one? Obviously the English, because we invented it. Every other is the German association, the French association, we are so assumptive. Changing the name would possibly be a solution.”
Glenn tendered his resignation at the FA in December but, despite the search for his successor being well advanced, is likely to depart the organisation only in the autumn. The FA board will continue discussions on the renaming at its next meeting.

“To lift the Premier League trophy again is what we expect, what we’re used to.
“We can’t wait too many years but we have to take it step by step. It can’t happen overnight.
“Players who get complacent never last at this club. I’m the same. I can’t be complacent now I’ve got the job. That’s not me. We’re looking forward.
“We’ve got to work harder. I think the players know my expectations for the future,” Solskjaer said.

NIS Comptroller-General, Mr Muhammad Babandede said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Mr Sunday James.

NNPC recruitment: NANS blows hot over age limit

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to reconsider the age limit contained in its recent vacancy notice to avoid mass protests.

The association made the call on Thursday in a statement jointly signed by Comrades Abubakar Muhammed Gambo and Idowu Odebunmi, Senate President and Chairman Anti-corruption Committee of NANS, respectively.
According to NANS, the Corporation cannot claim ignorance of challenges of tertiary education in the country.
“The NNPC cannot claim ignorance of the many challenges that attend our educational system and how these have greatly stretched degree programmes in public owned institutions.
“It is on record that the recent employment process of the NNPC automatically disqualifies job seekers above the age of 28 and all who obtained a degree certification beyond 2014.
“The criteria for employment being canvassed and pursued by the Corporation, is not only discriminatory but also unpatriotic and reminiscent of an autocratic institution,” it said.
The association queried the logic behind the criteria for employment by the NNPC as it adversely affected youths and others inherently qualified for employment.
“It is the height of bureaucratic excess and overreach for the NNPC to deign to place an age ceiling over expertise.
“Age should not determine the fate of a million job seekers on a discriminatory whim with no bearing on the dynamics of our time,” NAN quoted the association as saying.

FSARS arrests painter for selling customer’s N9m SUV to police officer for N1.5m

A 25-year old painter in Ojodu Berger area of Lagos, Friday Eyaman has been arrested by the operatives of the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad, FSARS on Lagos Island, Lagos for allegedly selling the unregistered Ford Edge SUV entrusted in his care by a customer to repaint for him, to a police officer who posed as a buyer for N1.5m.
The arrest, according to a police source was made possible by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, in charge of FSARS, Lagos, Kola Kamaldeen who directed his team led by SP Olaniyi Festus to arrest the suspect following the intelligence report he received from a source that the painter was looking for a buyer for his customer’s SUV.
According to a police source, trouble started for Eyaman in February, 2019 when DCP Kamaldeen received a tip-off from a source that Eyaman was looking for a buyer for his customer’s SUV.
Following the report, Kamaldeen gave the suspect’s phone number the source provided for him to Olaniyi Festus and his team to contact the suspect and pose as a buyer of the SUV to enable them arrest him and recover the SUV from him before he disposed it at a give away price.
Police alleged that a member of the police team later contacted the suspect to discuss the asking price of the SUV and the suspect allegedly told the caller that the price of the SUV was N1.5m and that if he was interested, he should come over to Orile bus stop, Lagos to inspect the SUV and pay for it, unknown to him that the person discussing with him about the SUV on phone was a police undercover agent.
Following the discussion, the police team stormed Orile bus stop to mount positions ahead of the arrival of the suspect and as the suspect drove the SUV to the scene, the police agent after inspecting the SUV, told the suspect to drive him to a nearby bank to withdraw money to pay for the SUV and on the way, Festus and his team used their operational Vehicle to block the SUV and arrested the suspect and the alleged buyer and took them with the SUV to the station.
A Police source said that it was at the station that the suspect realised that the supposed buyer of the SUV was a police officer.
During investigation, according to the police, Eyaman allegedly confessed to the crime that he decided to sell his customer’s SUV to enable him raise money to perfect the bail conditions of his brother remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos for alleged manslaughter.
Eyaman allegedly stated: “Problems started for me in February, 2019 when I went to visit my brother who was remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Apapa for alleged manslaughter and as I was about living, one of my brother’s inmate friend advised me to sell my customer’s SUV and use part of the proceeds to perfect the bail conditions of my brother to regain freedom and I agreed to sell my customer’s SUV.
“But I am still in shock on how the police got my phone number to call me for the SUV,” the suspect allegedly stated.
A Police source said that the suspect would be charge to court after conclusion of investigations.

PenCom allays fear over management of N8.67trn pension fund

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) on Thursday allayed fear over the management of that the total assets under its purview, valued at N 8.67 trillion, as at December 2018.
Mrs Aisha Dahir-Umar, Acting Director-General of the commission, made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after delivering a keynote address at the 2019 First Quarter Consultative Forum For States, held in Akure.
Dahir-Umar, who was represented by Dr Dan Ndackson, Head, State Operation Department, PenCom, said it became imperative to allay fear of Nigerians as regards the safety of the pension assets.
She said the clarification was also necessary in view of the “misleading narratives in the social and conventional media about the safety of the pension assets.”
She explained one that of the reasons the commission was in Ondo State was to assure Nigerians that their contributory pension was safe.
She said that the commission had put measures in place to further guarantee the safety of the fund.
According to him, since the existence of the scheme in the last 14 years, the commission had never been found wanting in managing the fund.
“So, we want to tell Nigerians today that pension fund asset is safe.
“It is true that the Federal Government has been borrowing from the fund, but I want to assure you that every penny borrowed has been returned.
“If you are conversant with the financial market in Nigeria, you will know that without the pension industry, most of the Federal Government bonds will not subscribe.
“It is because of the accumulation of these funds that industries survive.
“The scheme has been fueling the weak economy of this country, and without it, Nigeria will not be where it belongs today,” Dahir-Umar said.
She said that since the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in the country, it had become a veritable tool for federal and state governments to accessing bonds for development purposes.
She noted that since the inaugural forum in 2014, many state had made tremendous progress towards adopting the CPS in their states.
She added that others had improved their compliance status in the implementation of the scheme.
She pointed out that the essence of the forum was to discuss issues associated with the implementation of contributory pension scheme in states.
“What we are trying to do is to move around the states, particularly the states that have shown interest in the implementation of this scheme and Ondo State has taken meaningful steps on this and that is why we are here,” she said.
However, the Acting D-G expressed dismay on the stagnating compliance of some states as regards the scheme and emphasised that such states risked the benefits therein.

“As at February 2019, the commission observed with concern that the momentum in the adoption of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) seems to be stagnating as many of the twenty-six (26) states that had enacted laws on the CPS had substantial compliance challenges with the provisions of their state laws.
“We noted that seven (7) states were either remitting only the employees’ portions of contributions or had huge backlogs of both the employer and employee contributions.
“However, where a state chooses to exercise its constitutional independence and refuses to adopt the CPS in accordance with the guidelines of the commission, the state shall deny itself the benefit of the CPS,” she said.
Dahir-Umar also reeled out the benefits of the CPS to include, eradication of ghost worker syndrome, cultivation of a savings culture for old age, payment of pension as and when due, creation of a pool of investible funds for development in the economy and greater transparency in pension administration.
While declaring the forum opened, Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said the pension scheme occupied a strategic position in economic development.
He stressed that it was not only an essential component of social security, but also a veritable tool for nation building.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Emmanuel Igbasan, the governor said the state had made efforts to ensure full implementation of the CPS.
He added that the state also intended to harness the funds for capital and development projects.

Computer graduate poses as MFM General Overseer, arrested

The police in Lagos said they have arrested a computer science graduate who allegedly defrauded Nigerians by operating a fake facebook account of the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Daniel Olukoya.
Spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspect also used names of other popular clergymen to defraud innocent Nigerians.
According to Elkana, the suspect, one Atanda Yusuf, 27, a graduate of Computer Science from the Ekiti State University, was traced by detectives of the Area D command Mushin, led by the Area Commander, Mr Akinbayo Olasoji, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
He said that the suspect claimed he was into telecommunications business by downloading music and have MTN mobile kits which he used to register sim cards.
“I am also working for Airtel with their registration kit at No 2, Isuti road Igando.
“Everything I am saying is nothing but the truth because there is nothing to hide anymore. I created a Facebook account in Dr Olukoya’s name, which I use to defraud people and I have regretted every bit of my action.
“I also opened facebook page for Redeemed Christian Church of God and Synagogue Church of All Nations, that is TB Joshua Church. I ask people through facebook to pay N1, 000 and get N10, 000 after four days.
“It is like ponzzi scheme where you pay N1, 000 and get N3, 000 and more than 100 people have been paying. I rented a shop at Igando. I rented it for N72, 000. The total sum will be going to about N500, 000. I started late last year, around September or July 2018.
“I had fear in me because I always knew that nothing lasts forever. Initially I used my Diamond bank account before I got Amos account, which is the one I am using. Since I told them to pay N1, 000 and get N3, 000, so if they pay and once it is four days, I block the person’s number on whatsapp, they would not be able to reach me anymore.
“I slammed my WhatsApp number on the Facebook page. Once you click on the page you will see the number and then contact me. I actually regret every bit of my action and I had decided to stop, in fact, I had a feeling that I was about to be caught.
“Nobody lured me into it; I am in it on my own. I did it all alone, no partner.
“Manacy Amos, the man I use his bank account number to transact the illicit business is a colleague from the factory we were working together, which is Okosupreme Natural Resources Limited. We were in the same department.
“We worked as quality control inspector. After Manacy gained admission, I was still working there before the company had issue, so we shut down. During that period I met him and said a friend of mine is a bricklayer and had issues with his account, that we have not seen any other account to pay money to and he agreed.

“I told him that the bricklayer friend was ready to pay N5, 000 and so he agreed to sell it. He sold his account and gave me his ATM card. That was how I got it,” he confessed to the police.
The suspect further confessed that the man of God he used his name most for the scam was Dr Olukoya because he watched his programme so much on television and people would respond faster to his call.
“I kept posting their normal church activities. I developed interest on Dr Olukoya because I loved him so much,” the suspect told the police during interrogation.
Elkana said that the suspect had been on police wanted list for over three months now, stressing that he was arrested following a tip off.
He said he would soon be charged to court for fraud.
