50-year-old man commits suicide in Ibadan community

There was confusion among residents of Gangansi area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Wednesday night after a fifty-year old man simply identified as Abass was discovered to have hanged himself in his elder brother’s house he was residing.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., caught the people around the community bewildered after seeing the man just few minutes before he was discovered to have taken his life.
Abass, according to a resident of the area, was a gentleman and a commercial motorcyclist.
The resident, who asked not to be named said, “He has children, both male and female, but his wife is not currently with him. He is in his early fifties. He was living here with us, and this house was built by his brother.
“All we know was that he came back home hale and healthy yesterday evening, but suddenly someone shouted when he saw him dangling from the ceiling of the house. It was the person that alerted us to the ugly incident.
“On getting there we saw him up there, but we noticed one small paper beside him. We took it up and saw that he left a note where he wrote that he intentionally committed suicide because of too much debt he owed people”.
DAILY POST further gathered that as at about 9.30 a.m. on Thursday, the body was still hanging on the ceiling but nobody was allowed to enter the building.
Some elders and landlords were seen having a meeting with some traditional herbalists who were demanding sacrificial materials to be used in appeasing some gods before the dangling body of the man could be brought down for proper burial.

However, all efforts made by DAILY POST to get reactions of the state police command spokesman, Adekunle Ajisebutu, proved abortive as SMS sent to him to react to the incident was yet to be replied as at the time of filling this report Friday morning. - DAILY POST

Before its collapse, the airline had 4,516 employees.
Alfa said since 2004,  at least 900 of the retirees died while the medical cases of some of them became worse.
He explained that the verification exercise, holding across three centres, has been without hitches.
“The verification exercise has been going on very well, we made sure retirees were former staff of Nigeria Airways and we have their records,” Alfa said.
“We ask questions and when they are certified, we clear them to start the verification process.
“In the verification team, we have people from the Ministry of Aviation, Ministry of Finance, Accountant General’s Office, Head of Service, EFCC, ICPC, PITAD and we also have our representatives on each desk.” - THECABLE

CONFUSIONIST ! I’ll hand over to Akinlade in 2019, says Amosun

I’ll hand over to Akinlade in 2019, says Amosun
Ibikunle Amosun, governor of Ogun state, says he will hand over power to Abiodun Akinlade, his preferred candidate of the All progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 governorship election.
The governor made this known in a statement by Adedayo Adeneye, the state commissioner for information.
The national working committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had ratified Dapo Abiodun as the governorship candidate of the party in the state against the wish of Amosun.
The governor did everything within his power to have Akinlade on the ballot but the NWC stood its ground.
This prompted reports that Amosun was making moves to defect from the APC to Accord Party.
But he denied this, though admitting that he was under “enormous pressure” to dump the ruling party over the outcome of the primary elections in the state.
In the statement, Adeneye quoted Amosun as also saying he is committed to supporting the party and President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I remain committed to our great party, APC, and I stand with and for our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari,” he was quoted as saying.
“I am in no doubt that come May 29, 2019, the Almighty God will make Mr President triumph and ensure that I hand over the reins of governance of our great state to the popular choice of the majority of our people, Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade.
“I restate my unwavering commitment and total support for the mandate freely and expressly given to Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade.” - THECABLE

EFCC moves Fayose to Lagos for trial

Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose’s trial will most likely begin at a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, according to reports.
Ahead of the trial, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is expected to move Fayose from Abuja to Lagos this weekend.
According to The Nation, the EFCC confirmed Friday that Fayose has been served charges and trial notice.
The ex-governor is facing trial in connection with N1.299 billion and $5.3 million allegedly allocated to him by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from N4.65 billion slush fund allegedly shared by ONSA.
But the ex-governor denied collecting $5.3 million from a former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro.
He was said to have only admitted knowing Obanikoro and his associate, Abiodun Agbele, who allegedly bought six choice properties for him in Lagos and Abuja.
He was also said to have confirmed during interrogation yesterday that Agbele bought the properties for him.
The Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the filing of charges against Fayose.
“Fayose has been served with charges alongside his company, Spotless.”
But Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, said the former governor is waiting to be charged to court, whenever the EFCC is ready.

He claimed that the EFCC does not have evidence to prosecute the ex-governor.
“With the deafening noise that they made about the evidence of corruption in their possession and even going by the EFCC ignoble tweet of July 15, 2018, in which the commission expressed its readiness to prosecute the former governor immediately he no longer enjoyed immunity, Nigerians had expected that by now, he will be facing trial in court.
“However, because the EFCC does not have any evidence against Fayose, the commission has opted to keep him in detention so as to satisfy its paymasters whose major agenda is ‘Fayose must be kept out of circulation by whatever means.’
“If not that they are just interested in keeping him out of circulation, why is the anti-graft commission not in court to prosecute him with the ‘overwhelming evidence’ it claimed to have?'' - PM NEWS
