Fulani herdsmen, customs officers killing us like goats – Ogun residents tell Buhari

Residents of Ogun State have cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying they were being killed by Fulani herdsmen and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

They called on the President to put an end to incessant killings and youths unemployment.

At a town hall meeting organised by the Minister for Mines and Steels Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro and Abeokuta on Friday, youths, women and elders of Ogun State bared their minds on ways to prevent a repeat of the recent #EndSARS protest.

While declaring the meetings open, Adegbite told the people that President Buhari had sent his appointees back to their home states to feel the pulse of Nigerians in order to forestall a repeat of youths restiveness that could give birth to carnage, killings, arson and breakdown of law and order.

In their reactions, the people lamented the spate of killings in Ogun State, especially in the border communities, blaming unemployment for the recent crisis.

Ogun indigenes also decried the deplorable conditions of federal roads in the state, while adding that the people are hungry as a result of border closure.

In his words, Adebiyi Adeyinka Tajudeen from Yewa South said customs officers have been killing Ogun people like goats, all in the name of chasing suspected smugglers.

Tajudeen alleged that many have been killed this year by the customs officers, begging the President to stop NCS officers from shooting within the communities if they fail to seize contraband at the borders.

Corroborating Tajudeen’s submission, one Hunponu Olamikan explained that Fulani herdsmen have made farming unattractive to the people of the Gateway State.

According to Olamilekan, herdsmen have continued to destroy farms as their cows graze on crops.

“After destroying our crops, we have no right to talk. If we talk, these Fulani herdsmen will kill us like goats. Recently, they killed a father, his wife and three children in Oja-Odan, Yewa North. This is getting too much and nobody is doing anything about it,” Olamilekan lamented.

In his words, the former Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Tosin Adeluyi, called on the Federal Government to see to the development of border areas, saying the agency put in charge of that responsibility has not been doing anything in Ogun State.

Adeluyi said unemployment is the root cause of all social vices, and charged governments at all levels to keep the youths off the streets by getting them gainfully employed.

Responding, the Minister assured the people that their requests would get to the President.

Adegbite said government would not rest until the excesses of customs officers in Ogun and Nigeria in general are addressed.

According to him, officers of the NCS need to be sensitised, stressing that “it is far better for a smuggler to escape than to kill an innocent soul.”

He revealed that the population of the nation is growing faster than the nation’s revenue, urging all Nigerians to be productive.

2 nabbed for eating roasted police officers’ flesh

The police in Oyo State have confirmed the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked with the roasting and eating of the flesh of police officers burnt in Ibadan during #EndSARS protest.

Police Spokesman at the Oyo State Command, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Saturday in Ibadan.

The suspects, a 34-year-old expectant mother and a 43-year-old man have been transferred to the Force Intelligence Bureau at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation, he said.

The 34-year-old woman was alleged to have eaten some body parts of one of the police victims, an allegation which she denied as she said while it was true that she was at the scene, she was only given the body parts to keep by the second suspect, the 43-year-old man.

The 43-year-old suspect did not also deny being at the scene of the incident with other hoodlums but said it was the woman who voluntarily took the body parts and only asked him for a towel or handkerchief to wrap them in.

The fallen policemen were deployed to contain the #EndSARS protest of Oct. 22, which was hijacked by hoodlums, when they met their deaths.

It’s China’s refinery – Bamgbose makes revelations about Buhari govt’s MoU with Niger Republic

Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has made some revelations about the recent memorandum of Understanding, MoU, the Nigerian Government signed with the government of Niger Republic.

The Buhari government had during the week through the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, reportedly signed the MoU with Niger Republic for petroleum products importation.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, SORAZ Refinery in Zinder, Niger Republic, has an installed refining capacity of 20,000 barrels per day.

Bamgbose claimed, however, that the truth and the reality is that, the MoU was between Nigeria and China.

In a statement to DAILY POST on Saturday, the senior lawyer and 2023 presidential hopeful, said that the Société de Raffinage de Zinder, SORAZ Refinery is owned by China.

“In June 2008, China National Petroleum Corporation, CNPC, and Niger Republic signed integrated upstream and downstream deals in Agadem block which resulted in the building of SORAZ refinery.

“The major shareholder in the refinery is China National Petroleum Corporation with 60% shareholding and Niger Republic has 40% shareholding.

“In essence China facilitated the MoU because of their interest. This is certainly one of the hidden conditions given to Nigeria in order to secure Chinese loans.

“One can equally remember that FEC in September okayed $1.96bn for proposed rail contract from Kano to Niger Republic. We secured the loan from China and it’s also the Chinese company that will be in charge.

“This government should stop fooling Nigerians. Much has it will have economic benefits, but Nigerians should not forget that this is neocolonialism cropping up.

“The fear is that China may soon take over the machinery of government in Nigeria. This latest MoU may very clearly be a big obstacle to Dangote Refinery. Nigerians have not been told about the duration of the MoU signed.

“China has bought over the Executive and the National Assembly. This is very dangerous. It’s most likely that China may equally play a leading role in who becomes the President in 2023.

“Except something is done promptly, Nigeria may one day be like Hong Kong to China,” he said.

My wife shares what belongs to me with men – Lotto agent

A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, on Friday dissolved an eight-year-old marriage between Julius Akintola and his wife, Ejide.

They were separated on grounds of adultery and lack of love, NAN reports.

Julius, a Lotto agent, told the court that he was completely frustrated because Ejide shared what should belong only to him with other men outside.

The resident of Oke-Labo area in Ibadan said he never knew that he took an adulteress as a wife when things were rosy for him.

“I gave Ejide all she requested in excess. In fact, I dashed her N1 million when I won a lottery. However, Ejide became a harlot when my business went bad, sleeping about with men,’’ he regretted.

Julius recalled that a “male concubine” usually picks his wife early in the morning and returns her late in the night.

He added that Ejide sometimes describe her romantic time while discussing with the man on phone.

“I used to see her taking woman-power that could enhance her sexual enjoyment. One day, I challenged her for dumping our two children and leaving home for three days. Ejide picked up a bottle and broke it on my head.”

Julius disclosed that he caught the wife red-handed in a hotel with the same man and she swore that he would not return home alive for investigating her escapades.

The complainant said he has been solely responsible for the care of the children including washing their dresses, cooking their food and taking them to school.

Responding, Ejide claimed that the man Akintola mention was her colleague in office.

The respondent stated that her husband was an irresponsible drunkard and womaniser.

“Since Julius doesn’t cater for me and my office is quite far away from the house, I decided to be joining the man. Julius even went as far as buying ‘Magun’ to plant it on me so that the man would die if he slept with me.”

Ejide narrated how the husband ordered her to leave the home after insisting her “bad luck” was the reason his betting business stopped flourishing.

President of the Court, Ademola Odunade, explained that the dissolution was to forestall an impending calamity.

“The marriage between Julius and Ejide has ceased to be in the interest of peaceful living and custody of the two children is granted to the respondent”, the arbitrator said.

The plaintiff shall pay a monthly feeding allowance of N8,000 for the children’s upkeep.

He will also be responsible for their education and other basic needs.

Odunade advised would-be couples to be careful and choose right in their quest for marriage so as not to fall victims of dangerous spouses.

Abaribe: Only one south-easterner is in Aso Rock — and he is a photographer

Enyinnaya Abaribe, senate minority leader, says the only person from the south-east region in the Aso Villa is a photographer.

Abaribe said this on Friday when he featured on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels TV.

Amid the intense agitation from south-east leaders for Igbo presidency in 2023, Abaribe had said it was non-negotiable for an Igbo person to replace President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recently, David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi state, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a result of “injustice.”

In reaction, Abaribe who is a member of PDP, said Umahi’s defection is merely an occurrence and will be evaluated properly during the next presidential election.

He emphasised the importance of back channels in government, adding that it was the reason for the relevance of Mamman Daura, Buhari’s nephew, in the present administration.

“Before, every part of this country was represented in the Aso Villa, so when you want to do government business because sometimes government business is done from back channels, so if you have a problem or they want to do some consultations, you make a call into the Villa, you call to your countryman and say please, can you tell oga this or that so that we can have this talk, there is none today inside the villa. There’s one guy, his name is Sunny, I think he’s a photographer, ” he said.

“So, Umahi is going to talk to who? Ok, because he is governor, he can talk to chief of staff, he can go to see the president but what about others?”

However, checks by TheCable showed that nine presidential aides are from the south-east zone.

They are Francis Anatogu, senior special assistant (SSA) to the president (public sector matters); Nneka Ikejiani, senior technical assistant to the president (delivery unit); Somkele Awa- Kalu, special assistant to the president (research); Tochi Nwachukwu, special assistant to the president (power privitisation) and Nkechi Chukwueke, special assistant to the president (community engagement).

Others are Nkoli Anyaoku, special assistant to the president (DCOS); Nonye Ojekwe, special assistant to the president (political matters); Louisa Chinedu-Okeke, special assistant to the president (finance) and Juliet Chikaodili-Nwagu, special assistant to the president (justice sector reforms and international relations).

Sunday Aghaeze, better known as Sunny,  personal assistant to the president (state photographer), is from Delta state which falls under the south-south zone.

Despite being informed of the existence of these presidential aides, Abaribe insisted that there is no “proper person” from the south-east in the presidential villa, saying, “we had access, we do not have that anymore. Of course, you can have low-level people being appointed, but what do they do that you can say these people make a difference in our lives in the south-east?”
