Another 40 Nigerians To Be Deported From Italy

The Italian government is set to deport at least 40 Nigerians back into the country over immigration offenses.
The deportees will arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday night.
Our correspondent gathered that many of the deportees entered Italy illegally while others entered the country with visiting visas but stayed past their expiration dates.
A source close to the Department of State Security attached to the Lagos airport told our correspondent that some of the impending deportees also committed criminal offenses in their host country and would immediately be handed over to the police on arrival.
It would be recalled that 23 Nigerians were repatriated from the United Kingdom last Friday over similar offenses.

According to BBC News social media post has gone viral in Taiwan after a user revealed his grandmother had been misusing a designer handbag he had gifted her.
The post (in Chinese) says she hadn't realised her new handbag was an iconic Louis Vuitton - and greeted him with it filled with groceries and fresh fish.
She excitedly told him the new bag was very waterproof, but slightly heavy.
The 'Neverfull' handbag is highly prized in Asia and around the world, and retails for £900 ($1,110).
The post explains his grandmother had been using the same tired handbag for years, so he wanted to treat her with a new expensive one.
While admitting he was "speechless" to see her waving at him with the bag filled with fresh fish, he said he decided not to point out her mistake after seeing how happy it made her.
The post has been liked more than 31,000 times by the network's users.
One person commented: "Your granny must be most fashionable person at the market, walking around like she's strutting on the runway, even the fish has gone up in value!"
Another referenced the long-standing rumour that passengers' Louis Vuitton suitcases were said to have survived the sinking of the Titanic.
He ended the post by saying: "No wonder LV bag has such a good reputation; it can last really long and is very durable!"

ABOARD THE GOLFO AZZURRO/ROME (Reuters) - A four day-old baby was one of over 480 migrants rescued by humanitarian ships on Saturday during search and rescue operations in the central Mediterranean Sea.
The baby was traveling on one of two rubber boats carrying over 200 migrants from North and Central Africa, Sri Lanka and Yemen and seen drifting some 22 nautical miles north of the Libyan town of Sabratha, the most frequently used departure point currently used by people smugglers in Libya.
The operation was carried out by Spanish NGO Proactiva Open arms and lasted three hours. Migrants were transferred into the former fishing trawler Golfo Azzurro, expected to reach the Sicilian port town of Augusta on Sunday afternoon.
The other rescued migrants, on board two other rubber boats, were rescued by staff on the supply vessel Vos Prudence, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard told Reuters.
Those migrants were due to reach Italy on Monday, but the destination is still unknown, the Coast Guard added.
"A week ago, I collected a dead body from the Mediterranean for the first time, and (Saturday) I carried a new life," Daniel Calvelo, the 26 year-old who transferred the baby from the raft into the rescue boat, told Reuters.
The baby's mother, a 29-year old Nigerian woman, and her husband, a 34-year old worker from Ghana, were also rescued. They had lived in Libya for over two years and decided to leave for Europe after they had the baby.
"We want to go to France or Germany, there is a future for our family there," Richard Ohene, the father, told Reuters.
Italy has become the main arrival point in Europe for people fleeing persecution and poverty in Africa, most of them crossing the Mediterranean from lawless Libya in search of a better life.
Nearly 600 migrants have died so far this year trying to reach Italy from North Africa, the International Migration Organization (IOM) estimates. Some 4,600 people are thought to have died last year.
In all, 181,000 migrants reached Italy in 2016, about half of the total who arrived in the European Union by sea.

A junior doctor who penned a viral social media post about the pressures facing the NHS has been found dead in her home in Plymouth.

Dr Rebecca Ovenden, 32, was found by her husband, Paul, on 28 March, after working at the A&E department at Derriford Hospital for roughly 18 months.

In 2015, she posted a Facebook status that about the deteriorating state of the health service under the Conservative government, which was shared over 38,000 times.

"I heard a patient's relative comment the other night at work 'we waited four hours for that'," she said.

"I wish I could have turned to them and said 'YES! – BLESS THE NHS!' It is because of the NHS you can walk into an ED [emergency department] at 1.35am in the morning and, no matter your complaint, be seen by a doctor.

"Please don't complain in earshot of your health care professional about waiting four hours to be seen in the middle of the night, free of charge by a doctor, with a smile on their face who has not been rude to you, who has reassured you, when the reason it took four hours to see you was because they were trying to save the life of an elderly man who had not wanted to make a fuss about a cold when he was dying of a raging chest infection.

"Be thankful of the service you get at the moment, no matter how crappy you might think it is. You never know when you or a loved one might need it.

"It may not be around in its current form for much longer. Then what would you say?"

An inquest into the death of Ovenden – known as Becky to family and friends – was opened and adjourned in Plymouth Coroner's Court on Monday (3 April).

A number of colleagues paid tribute to Ovenden who said she was "talented" and "much respected".
Anne Hicks, consultant in emergency medicine at Derriford Hospital, told the Plymouth Herald: "Becky worked in the Emergency Department for 18 months and was a much-loved member of our team.

"She will be very sadly missed. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones."

Helena Holt, CEO of Devon Air Ambulance, where Ovenden also volunteered, said: "On behalf of everyone at Devon Air Ambulance we send our thoughts and condolences to Becky's family, friends and work colleagues at this difficult time.

Police confirmed that Ovenden's death was not being treated as suspicious.

See the asylum seeker who raped two elderly men in care home and murders the wife of one victim in Germany

An 18 year old Somalian asylum seeker has been charged with raping two disabled men in a care home and murdering one of their wives in Germany. The assailant is said to have broken into the home in the county of Betheim late last year and sneaked into the room of a paralysed 59-year-old man to rape him.

He then moved to an adjoining and raped another man before being confronted by the victim's 87-year-old wife, who he is accused of killing. German police say he was engaged in sexually abusing the second man when he was disturbed by his wife and killed her using 'great force' to avoid being caught for his previous crimes.

The migrant was discovered by a janitor who was doing his rounds at about 3.30am when he noticed a figure in one of the hallways. He suspected it was a burglar, and confronted the man. The 18-year-old ran past and jumped out of a window before escaping.

Police were already on their way to the care home after the janitor called the emergency services thinking there had been a burglary but when he found blood splatters along the corridors, he alerted officers. As police officers and nurses went room-to-room, they eventually found the two male victims and the woman lying in a pool of blood. The suspect was apprehended at his home shortly afterwards and police found damp trainers in his wardrobe. The accused is currently being held in custody in a psychiatric hospital pending trial.
