Terrorists !!! Fulani Herdsmen fingered as fire razes property worth millions at Awka Youth Center

Fulani herdsmen have been fingered in a fire incident that destroyed properties worth millions of naira at the National Youth Development Centre Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government area of Anambra State.

The fire, which burnt down the bungalow housing the office of the principal of the center, was alleged to have been ignited by some suspected Fulani herdsmen grazing their cattle in the centre.
DAILY POST gathered that some of the property destroyed by the fire included computer sets, television sets, gas cooker, household and office effects, among other items.
Speaking to newsmen, the principal of the center, Mrs. Grace Ogbuji who expressed shock over the incident said she received a distressed call from one of the cleaners in the centre, alleging that herdsmen grazing their cattle at the centre put the fire on Wednesday.
“She told me precisely that the fire was ignited by Fulani herdsmen which affected the three bedroom flats in the centre,” she said.
Ogbuji who regretted that the center had been under utilized since its establishment, appealed to both the federal and state governments to come to their rescue by rebuilding the affected structures.
She also stressed the need for the centre to be put in full use to achieve the purpose for which it was established.
“Since the centre is located in Anambra State, the state government should liase with the federal government to ensure it is used for what it was meant for,” she added.
A youth leader in the area, Chukwuma Nnenna, who said he was an eyewitness, lamented that the quantity of property lost to the inferno was much because of the odd time the incident happened.
“The unfortunate incident took all of us unawares because it occurred at odd hours when it was almost difficult to put out the fire,” he said.
He also called on the state government to make good its promises of empowering the youths in the area by repositioning the centre for uptimal results.
“If the government had done the needful, this incident could not have happened. If the centre were to be functional, it could not have been engulfed by fire,” he decried.
The President General of Mgbakwu, Chief Nweze Okafor, said it was high time the government made adequate use of the facilities to actualize its objectives.
“It is either the government put the centre in proper and full use or they give us back our land,” Okafor stated.
He, however, hinted that he had already contacted the leader of the Fulani herdsmen in Awka North local government area who had promised to pay a visit to the center to ascertain the extent of the damage.
Anambra has an existing policy of host community paying for the destruction of any property belonging to the Fulani herdsmen, and vice versa. - Daily Post

Iyabo Obasanjo to Buhari: Heed my father’s advice, retire in 2019

Iyabo Obasanjo to Buhari: Heed my father’s advice, retire in 2019
Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to heed her father’s advice and retire in 2019.

In a statement issued to Vanguard, Iyabo criticised supporters of President’s Buhari administration for regurgitating a well publicised open letter she had written her father in 2013.
Iyabo accused the Buhari administration of evading the “fundamental issues of bad governance” raised in the special statement issued by her father.

She said Buhari’s supporters had resorted to “a cheap tactic” by focusing on “unconnected issues” instead of heeding the “advice and admonishment of one of the most brilliant leaders to ever emerge in modern Africa”.

Her statement read: “To say that Nigeria has problems is to make an understatement.
“The wise should listen, wherever help and advice come from. Those who republished the old letter should have spent time to respond to the content of the said statement which, among other things, called on President Buhari to join the rank of retired elder statesmen in 2019.

“I would think this was appropriate and even unnecessary advice, given the serious medical problems he has had over the last few years.
“I have had no connection with his administration or to the previous one after I left the Senate in 2011, and to try and use me and my name as some excuse is shameful.

“I agree with the contents of the open letter and like all people that wish Africa well, hope that Nigeria someday comes out of its death spiral to become a leading nation in the world.
“It is tiring to continue to be part of the Nigerian conversation when there is no positive impact to it.

“I really do not want to be part of it, as I have found over and over again that speech and words are wasted on people who have no understanding of the responsibility on us as black people on this planet.” - Cable Nigeria

La Liga : Real Madrid 'make contact' with Spurs boss as Zidane may go

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Real Madrid have made contact with Mauricio Pochettino as they look for a manager in case Zinedine Zidane leaves the Bernabeu, according to the Daily Mail.

Madrid are drawing up contingency plans in case they sack under-pressure boss Zidane, and they have reserved Pochettino as the man to replace their former player in the dugout.

The Daily Mail have stated that sources close to Madrid claim that Pochettino’s camp have already been contacted by Real Madrid about the potential vacancy, and the Argentine manager is ‘keen’ on hearing what they have to say.
Spurs will be desperate to hang on to Pochettino given the work he has done for the North London side in the past three seasons.
Tottenham have finished third and second in the Premier League in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 season respectively, and they are considered dark horses for the UEFA Champions League thanks to their star-studded line-up featuring the prolific Harry Kane.
Spurs won’t be keen on letting the Argentine go, however, in 48-year-old’s contract, which is expiring in June 2021, there is believed to be no release clause.
Zidane has failed to live up to high expectations this season so far after he led Real Madrid to the La Liga title and Champions League double last season.
The Spanish giants were knocked out of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday by Leganes and they face a tricky last-16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

“I know my age. Since I was in primary school till now, year in year out, the song of our leaders do sing for us is ‘things will be better, be patient’.
“But for how for how long will we be struggling in this country”, Osoagba quipped.
“We are dreaming of Nigeria where a litre of fuel will be 50 naira and a bag of rice will be 3000 Naira.
“We didn’t bargain what we are experiencing now in this country.
“A devil is somewhere else, working against the destiny of Nigeria. We are to pray, fast and act in order to find lasting solutions to the many problems bedevilling nation,” he said.‎
The cleric called on Nigerians to pray fervently in order to break “the evil, cabals or whatever name it is called”.

“Nigerians must stand. Earnest prayers are needed to dislodge the forces.

How Buhari reduced himself to President of Katsina – Adebanjo

Elder statesman and a chieftain of Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari, of reducing himself to President of Katsina.
Pa Adebanjo, was reacting to a statement written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, rubbishing the Buhari-led government.
The leader of the influential Afenifere group, also addressed the issue of restructuring, saying it should be clear now to Buhari and all those opposed to it that it was the solution to the key challenges facing the country.
He said, “If Buhari has been sincere about keeping Nigeria together in peace, he should have called them to address their grievances but he intimidated and wanted to butcher and kill them in their land. It shows in everything that he does that he is the President of Katsina State and not of Nigeria!”
Speaking on Obasanjo’s letter, the elder statesman said, “When Obasanjo said both APC and PDP cannot take us anywhere, I agree with him. But any party Obasanjo is interested in, I am out of it because Obasanjo will not support anything except he has vested interest. I am interested in the message and not the messenger on this occasion.” - Daily Post

Herdsmen, cattle have been given same immunity as the president - Ortom

Ortom: Herdsmen, cattle have been given same immunity as the president
Samuel Ortom, Benue state governor, says the same immunity from prosecution enjoyed by the President and Vice-President appears to be applicable to herdsmen and their cattle.

The governor said this in reaction to a statement made by Mansur Dan Ali, minister of defence.
Dan Ali had asserted that the anti-open grazing law was largely responsible for the herdsmen killings around the country.
“These people (herdsmen) are Nigerians. It is just like one going to block shoreline, does that make sense to you? These are the remote causes of the crisis,” the minister had said.

Reacting, the governor described the statement as “an insult to the sensibility of Nigerians”. He lamented that the federal government valued the lives of cattle more than humans.
“I heard a statement credited to the Minister of Defense, saying the killings in Benue were as a result of the anti-open grazing law. I can’t see him saying that kind of thing. If he said so, I would have asked him what he has done about Fulani herdsmen going about with AK47s,” he said.

“I will not surrender my land to foreigners. You can go and do that in your own state. It’s sad that those who are supposed to be assisting the President have instead, turned round to misinform him, all for their selfish interests.

“As a state, we are ready to accommodate those who are genuine and come to our state legally, whether foreigners, to do business. But if you are in Benue, you must respect the laws of the land.
“I see the statement as an insult to the collective leadership and sensibility of the people of Nigeria, for a minister of defence to ask Nigerians to accommodate foreigners who illegally enter the country to cause problems.

“I am now beginning to see that they have given immunity that is the prerogative of President, Vice-President, governors and deputy governors to herdsmen, who kill and to their cattle. Cattle in Nigeria now have more immunity than humans. This is very unfortunate.” - Cable Nigeria

5 Britons arrested for 'pornographic dancing'

They are understood to have been near to Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap. File pic

Five British men are being held in Cambodia for what officials have called "pornographic dancing".
The men are among a group of 10 - including two women, who range in age from 19 to 35 - arrested as they manned a barbecue at a party in a villa on Thursday in Siem Reap.
They have been told they could be jailed for up to a year and could also face six months in detention waiting for the case to go to trial.
Cambodian police released images online appearing to show clothed and laughing tourists, some in sexually suggestive positions.
But one of the group, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said none of the people in the photos are those arrested and they are confused by the situation.
They said: "Honestly, it was really confusing. Everyone was confused. They raided, rounded us up - there was about 80 to 100 people at this party, some of them were tourists. There were about 30 of them [police officers]."
One of the group vomited in shock as they were taken away.
The prisoner added that they were being treated well and had even been bought pizza by the guards.
They have been assigned a Cambodian lawyer and are due in court later today.
The group arrested confirmed their identities and police have released a photo of the group. They include five British men; Vincent Harley Robert Hook, 35, Daniel Richard Leeming Jones, 30, Thomas Alexander Jeffries, 22, Billy Stevens, 21, and Paul Francis Harris, 32.
The other members of the arrested group include Job Robertus van der Wel, from The Netherlands, 22, Canadians Jessica Drolet, of Ottawa, 25, and Eden Koazoleas, 19, of Alberta, David Nikolaus Aleksandr Ballovarre, of Oslo, Norway, 22, and Paul Martin Brasch, 32, of New Zealand.
A statement from Cambodian police referenced pornography and dancing, adding that the 10 people had been charged following an investigation by the Office Combating Human Trafficking and Protection of Juveniles.
The families of the detainees are said to be "worried sick".
The prisoner added: "Our parents are doing what they can. It's really just trying to keep a good vibe until we know the outcome."
The prisoner explained they think the arrests may have been linked to the targeting of tourists and expats wearing bikinis in public and taking part in pub crawls in Siem Reap.

Billionaire Saudi prince freed after two months in detention

Billionaire Saudi prince freed after two months in detention
Alwaleed bin Talal, a prominent member of Saudi Arabia’s royal family, has been freed after two and a half months in detention.

According to New York Times, two close associates of bin Talal confirmed his release on Saturday.
In November, the billionaire prince who has stakes in Twitter, Lyft and other international companies was arrested amid a crackdown on corruption and held at Ritz-Carlton.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman also had 10 princes, four ministers and a number ex-ministers detained.
Earlier in 2017, the king removed Mohammed bin Nayef as head of the interior ministry and placed him under house arrest.

By this action, Salman extended the crown prince’s influence over the interior ministry’s troops which is as good as a second armed force.
It is believed that the arrests made by the king are to consolidate the power of Mohammed bin Salam, his son and crown prince. - Cable Nigeria
