Europa League: Mourinho reacts as Dinamo Zagreb manager is jailed

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, has insisted that his game plans against Dinamo Zagreb have not changed, despite their manager stepping down after being handed a prison term.

Zoran Mamic and his brother Zdravko were found guilty on corruption charges in 2018.

And on Monday, they were ordered to spend four years behind bars.

Mamic’s assistant Damir Krznar has been appointed as his replacement, but Mourinho will maintain the same approach to Thursday’s second leg.

“I don’t want to comment. I don’t want to comment.

“An unusual situation? Ok. But what do you want me to do?

“I don’t remember [experiencing something like this], I don’t remember. Same players, same team, the assistant coach becomes the coach now, the ideas are the same there, the philosophy is the same.

“They’re not going to change anything in two days. When someone is the assistant shares the ideas of the head coach, I don’t feel anything is going to be different,” Mourinho said ahead of the game.

Bandits have international sponsors, says NSCDC boss

Ahmed Audi, commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says persons involved in banditry and similar criminal activities receive sponsorship from international circles.

He stated this on Wednesday during a training for state commandants of the agency in Abuja.

According to Audi, the country is experiencing “asymmetric war”, which requires inter-agency collaboration among security outfits.

“These guys are serious. These guys have international sponsors, so we need to come together. So, I’d like to say that this workshop is very apt and germane and very central to the collaboration of Nigerian security agencies,” he said.

“The increasing rate of armed conflict, occasioned by armed banditry, kidnapping, farmer-herder crises, vandalisation, community clashes, ethno-religious crises, among others, makes it imperative to explore the opportunity provided by this workshop in addressing and finding solutions to it.

“To this end, the need for multi-agency approach through effective collaboration and synergy cannot be overemphasised, neither can it be underestimated.

“Following how events are unfolding in the country, we are experiencing a serious conflict that I think in the history of Nigeria, this is about the first conflict that will give us a serious problem and the conflict is called asymmetric war.

“We have had in the past some semblance of this type of war, but the proper manifestation of it is the one we are seeing now, and asymmetric war is a war that requires all hands to be on deck if we want to deal with it and nip it in the bud.”

In recent times, the country has witnessed a rise in the activities of bandits, especially with the mass abduction of schoolchildren in the northern part of the country.

Two ‘Nigerian’ fraudsters jailed in UK for stealing over £250k from COVID loan scheme

For benefitting illegally from the United Kingdom’s coronavirus loan scheme, a Southwark Crown court has sentenced two persons of Nigerian descent, Timilehin Olasemo and David Akinneye, to a total of over eight years in prison.

Under the UK Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS), financial support is provided to small and medium-sized businesses affected by the pandemic; business owners can borrow as low as £2,000 and as high as 25 percent of turnover.

In a statement published on Wednesday by the Metropolitan police, Olasemo and Akinneye were said to have connived to benefit from illegal loan applications worth £489,000, and had received over £250,000 at the time of their arrest.

Olasemo, who is said to be a human resource executive, was charged to court over “conspiracy to commit fraud”, and impersonation

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence in November 2020, and was sentenced to three years and two months in prison at the resumed court hearing on Wednesday.

David Akinneye, aged 33, is described as her accomplice, and was sentenced to five years and six months in prison.

“Akinneye was the first out of the two to be identified during ongoing enquiries into organised criminality by officers of the Met’s North West London Economic Crime Unit. Olasemo was identified from evidence seized during Akinneye’s arrest,” the statement reads.

“On Friday, 16 October, officers from Met’s North West Economic Crime Unit, part of the Metropolitan Police Service’s Central Specialist Crime Command, arrested Olasemo at her home address. She was charged and remanded in custody the same day.

“The investigating officers identified that £489,000 worth of fraudulent loan applications were made using ten identities. Of this, £297,000 worth of loans were successfully obtained by the pair and dissipated. The remaining amount was successfully stopped by the banks.

“It was discovered that Olasemo had obtained and used the personal details of eight individuals in order to fraudulently apply for the loans. She had stolen these identities after accessing employee records containing personal information during her employment.

“The fraudulently obtained monies was paid into the business bank account before being dispersed into mule accounts and later withdrawn from cash machines. Throughout this process, Olasemo sought advice from an accomplice named Olufumi David Akinneye.

“Akinneye provided Olasemo with guidance in relation to laundering the proceeds of the frauds and safe addresses to use as correspondence for accounts. He also acted as a middle-man between people who were willing to sell on their bank accounts for use in fraud and other fraudsters who needed mule accounts to receive money obtained from diversion frauds.”

Speaking on the conviction, Chris Collins of the Metropolitan’s north west economic crime unit, said: “Today’s result serves as evidence of the zero-tolerance approach the MPS takes to individuals found guilty of fraud.”

“We will continue to crack down on individuals who are found to be exploiting government schemes for their own monetary gain,” he added.

Meanwhile, Akinneye, who was arrested in August 2020, was also found guilty of being involved in a romance scam.

No Biafra without us, Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB replies Asari Dokubo

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared that there is no Biafra without its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB made the declaration while reacting to the formation of a Biafra government by former militant warlord, Asari Dokubo.

Speaking exclusively with DAILY POST, IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, insisted that Kanu was still relevant in the push to actualize Biafra.

Asked if Nnamdi Kanu is still relevant going by Asari’s declaration, Powerful said: “Use your tongue and count your teeth, asking whether our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still relevant is like asking if Nigeria is in Africa.

“Even you know that there is no Biafra without IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu. No matter whatever anybody forms or claims, the Biafra story cannot be complete without Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB.

“The both are like the engine and tyres of a vehicle without which there will be no movement despite the functions of other parts of the vehicle.”

Asari, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force had announced himself as the leader of the new Biafra Customary Government.

The government was announced with names of some leaders by one Uche Mefor, who claimed to be its head of information and communications.
