The British government has announced a special service for Nigerians which enables them get their UK visa on the same day of application.

Daily Post reports that the British High Commissioner, Mr. Paul Arkwright disclosed this on Monday at the 40th anniversary of the Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce, NBCC, in Lagos.

Mr Arkwright while speaking at the event said that the British embassy has made provision for visa applicants in Nigeria to get their visa on the same day or within five days of application.

He noted that the embassy as part of its special services has reduced the maximum turnaround time for all classes of visa application to 15 days.

“We have introduced a same day visa service – at a cost – for visas in Nigeria.

“We have also introduced a service that means you get a visa within five days, at a lower cost than the same day process.

“Our turnaround time for all other visas is 15 days.

“The key thing, however, is that all visitors to the UK, whether they are from Nigeria or anywhere else, must respect the law and the length of time their visa says they can stay in the UK.
“In 2016, around 140,000 Nigerians applied for visas to the UK. Of those that applied for student visas, 90 percent were successful.

“For those that applied for other visas, around 70 percent were successful.

“There are as many as 250,000 Nigerian nationals or dual Nigerian-British nationals living in the UK at the moment.

“Some claim the total Nigerian diaspora in the UK is well over a million. We want Nigerians to come to the UK. They come to do business, to study, to see family and to invest in our economy.”

A church located on Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, belonging to Pastor Tony Rapu has been sealed off by the Lagos state government for violating building regulations and for being erected without title documents and requisite building permit.
The church known as This Present House, yet christened ‘The Dome’ is said to have contravened the Lagos State Regional and Urban Planning Law 2010.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos, Anifowoshe Abiola, said in a statement that the church has no Planning Permit to embark on such a massive construction without due process.
He added that the church’s fence was standing in the Right of Way of Freedom Road (currently under construction) and also directly under the high-tension wires.
Abiola averred that the government would not fold its arms and watch a brazen contravention of the law that could endanger the lives and property of residents.
His words, “While government appreciates citizens’ rights to freedom of worship, the law stipulates a minimum of 15meter setback from the high tension wire to the property line. This church neglected and has refused to comply with the Statutory Notice served, as such the State Government must protect its citizens in order to mitigate against avoidable disasters.”
The statement reiterated the position of government against illegal development and warned owners or developers against building without planning approval.
It further stated that the government has given a 30-day ultimatum to owners/developers of buildings without planning permit to comply with the state planning laws to avoid sanction.

The commissioner called on Lagos residents to show understanding and cooperation, stressing that the implementation of the planning laws is for the benefit everyone in the state.

Senator’s House Seized over Alleged N1.5bn Contract Scam

Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the seizure of a 12-storeyed building belonging to the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, over an alleged contract scam of N1.5bn.

The said building which the court ordered the EFCC to seize from Nwaoboshi, a PDP member, is located at 27, Marine Road, Apapa.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka made the temporary seizure order after entertaining an ex parte application brought before him on Monday by the anti-graft agency.

Joined with Nwaoboshi in the application were his two companies — Golden Touch Construction Project Limited, and Bilderberg Enterprises Limited.

The EFCC told the judge that Nwaoboshi, through his company, Bilderberg Enterprises Limited, got a N1.580bn contract to supply some construction equipment to the Delta State Direct Labour Agency sometime in 2010.

The anti-graft agency, however, claimed that Nwaoboshi’s company supplied second-hand equipment to the agency while he actually collected money to supply new equipment, thereby short-changing the agency.

The EFCC claimed that Nwaoboshi later used the proceeds of the alleged scam to bid for and purchase the 12-storeyed building, formerly known as Guinea House, for the sum of N805m in the name of his company, Golden Touch Construction Project Limited.

Arguing the ex parte application on Monday, the EFCC’s lawyer, George Chia-Yakua, said it was in the interest of justice to order the temporary seizure of the building pending the outcome of investigation and criminal trial of Senator Nwaoboshi and his companies.

After listening to EFCC lawyer, the judge ordered temporary forfeiture of Nwaoboshi’s building.

‘I stole company’s car because of my sick mother’

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old driver for allegedly stealing his company’s car.

The suspect, Ibrahim Hassan, confessed to have stolen the car because his company refused to grant his request for a loan. He explained that the loan was to enable him take care of his sick mother’s medical bill.

Hassan was arrested along with four others; Abubakar Salisu, Tochukwu Darlington, John Agbo and Dauda Abdulahi.

The suspects were arrested after a complaint was lodged by the company over the disappearance of their driver, along with the Mitsubishi Hilux car.
The suspects were arrested on their way to sell the car to a dealer at the Ogudu area of Ojota.

Hassan said: “I stole the car in other to raise money to offsets the medical bill of my sick mother. She was admitted at a hospital and had already incurred a bill of N70, 000. I had a financial challenge; I approached my company for help. I begged for a loan, but the company refused. The management said it didn’t have enough money at the moment to give me. I demanded for a week casual leave to be able to look for the money and it was granted.”

Hassan explained that after running from pillar to post for three days, trying to raise the money, without success, he decided to look at another option.
The option was to steal his company’s Mitsubishi Hilux car, which was under his car and sell it.

Hassan continued: “I took a week leave to source for the money; but after three days, I couldn't find anybody to help me. It was at that point that the thought of stealing the car crept into my mind.

“On the fourth day, I went back to the company. I told them I wanted to resume back. Naturally, nobody in the company suspected anything. I was handed the key of the car. After close of work that day, I picked the car and drove out of the company. Nobody challenged me.

"After stealing the car, I contacted my brother. He is a car dealer. He introduced me to one Godwin. The Godwin took me to someone at Ojota. We, however, couldn’t agree on a price. As we were driving back to Ajah, some policemen flagged us down. After some questions, they arrested us.”

Salisu said that his own role in the gang was just to get a buyer. He added: “I was able to get a buyer for the car.  The seller wanted to sell it for N3.2million, but the buyer wanted to pay N2million. We were returning from the buyer’s place when policemen stopped us. They demanded for the particulars of the car. We couldn’t provide it; that was how we were arrested.”

Darlington, who is one of the prospective buyers of the car, said that he didn’t know it was a stolen one.

His words: “I sell fairly used cars at Ladipo Market. My friend Godwin told me that his friend’s younger brother wanted to sell a car at a very cheap rate. I started looking for buyers. I also wanted to make some money from the deal, in order to take care of my family. I contacted some of my customers. Godwin’s friend said he wanted to sell the car for N3.5 million. We were returning from Ogudu when policemen arrested us.”
