‘Jonathan govt stole so much money’ – Apostle Johnson Suleman

Popular cleric and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has accused the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan of looting ‘so much money’ from government treasury.

The controversial pastor made the allegation in a post published via his official Twitter handle on Saturday.
Suleiman, who has been a fierce critic of the current administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, wrote: “Someone asked me why I’m against the present government and I screamed God forbid.
“I asked him why he didn’t say same when I was seriously speaking out against the activities of the previous government that stole so much money.
“I am not political; I speak truth to power,” Suleman tweeted.
DAILY POST recalls that Apostle Suleman told his congregants shortly before the last general elections to vote for a politician who would rather loot the public treasury than one who would kill them in cold blood.

Photographer ‘wrongly’ paraded as fraudster demands N100m damages from EFCC

Photographer ‘wrongly’ paraded as fraudster demands N100m damages from EFCC
Nasiru Ali, a photographer also known as Kozzographa, has demanded N100 million from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in damages.
On May 17, Ali was arrested after EFCC operatives raided his home in Abuja.
The photographer was reportedly asleep when officials of the anti-graft agency stormed his house. He was released after three days in detention.
His picture and name alongside nine other suspected “Yahoo boys” were published on May 20, on the anti-graft agency’s Instagram page.
In a petition dated May 30, and addressed to Ibrahim Magu, EFCC acting chairman, the photographer, through Pelumi Olajengbensi, a human rights lawyer, said he lost a N5 million contract over the incident.
Ali, who demanded for an “unreserved apology” for the “wrongful arrest” and “libellous publication”, challenged the EFCC to prove that he is a fraudster.
“That your good office publish and tender an unreserved apology for the wrongful arrest and unlawful detention as well as the libellous publication of our client for no just cause on all your online platforms and two other national newspapers,” the petition read.
“That you pay to our client the sum of one hundred million naira only (100. 000, 000.00) being minimal damages to assuage his already battered reputation.”
The photographer said if the EFCC fails to meet the aformentioned conditions within seven days, he would go to court.

AIT/Raypower: Clear yourself of N2.5bn fraud – CACOL tells NBC DG, Kawu

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has advised the Director General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC , Ishaq Moddibo Kawu, to clear himself of involvement in N2.5billion fraud.
CACOL flayed the NBC, for its indefinite suspension of the operational license of AIT/RAYPOWER Communications, which has led to the outright closure of the media outfit.
This was contained in a press release forwarded to DAILY POST on Saturday by the anti-graft organization’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Debo Adeniran.
It stated, “We note, with bated caution and guided response, the indefinite suspension of the operational license of AIT/RAYPOWER media outfit, leading to its closure yesterday.
“We have carefully listened to and read reasons advanced for this unfortunate and avoidable action by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, for its action ranging from the accusation of the media outfit ‘operating more like social media by airing hate speech, divisive and inciting comments, etc., on its programmes that discuss national issues in breach of certain provisions of the NBC Act and Broadcasting Code.’
“They were also accused of ‘not paying their license fees as and when due as well as the accusation of the owner and Founder of the outfit ‘creating the habit of using the media outfit to fight his personal battles contrary to the statutory requirements of the Law.’
“It also cited many instances where management of the media outfit had been cautioned on its style of operations without any sign of conscious efforts at rectifying same.
“In different vein, the management of the affected media outfit, led by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has refuted and denied almost all the allegations too by insisting that the management under him, ‘has sought an audience with the NBC DG by calling, texting and sending letters which were all rebuffed as he simply refused to allow any meetings with him by the organization’s management.’
He also decried what he termed ‘an exorbitant yearly renewal fees that is one of the highest in the world’.
“It is against this backdrop of information that CACOL as an anti-corruption and Open Leadership coalition, clearly condemns an outright clampdown on the operations of the entire media outfit since the supposedly ‘inciting and reckless broadcasts’ were limited to threads aired on the Political Platform and KAKAAKI.
“This is why we believe that even if there should be any sanctions against the observed security or operational lapses of the media group, such should have been restricted to the identified programmes or better still take the media outfit to court for professional and ethical breaches.
“The beauty of it all is that management of Daar Communications, the owner and management of both AIT/RAYPOWER media outfit has gone to court and supposedly secured a relief from the shutdown of the outfit.
“We advise the NBC and the Federal Government to respect the decision and pronouncement of the Judiciary on this ill-advised closure even if it would take other measures to rectify observed lapses while we implore the management of AIT/RAYPOWER media outfit to also be more circumspect and ensure strict adherence to global best practices of its reputable workers in its media fold.”
CACOL hails the “decision of the Justice Folashade Ogunbayo-Giwa of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to decline the release of the international passports of the Chairman of Pinnacle Communications Ltd., Lucky Omoluwa and Dipo Onifade, both of who are in trial over their complicity in N2.5 (Two Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira) Digital Switch-Over (DSO) Fraud, to enable them travel to the united Kingdom (UK) for an unnamed Conference.”
The duo are standing trial with the Director General (DG) of NBC, Ishaq Moddibo Kawu in the alleged Fraud.
The Anti-graft organization, therefore, calls on “Mr. Kawu and the other accomplices not to employ any undue tactics to delay or subvert the cause of justice over these monumental corruption allegations, they should demonstrate the urge and enthusiasm to clear their names and reputation, if indeed they were innocent of those allegations.”

Third-place game is no practice match, says Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate said he did not want to make major changes to his team for Sunday’s Nations League third-place game with Switzerland, and that the game was a chance to give something back to the country’s disappointed fans.
England lost their semi-final against the Netherlands 3-1 on Thursday and while the Dutch can look forward to a final with Portugal on Sunday, England are left with the consolation match.
“We lost an important game on Thursday. We’ve got thousands of fans here and we have to make sure our performance is one that gives them something back.
“Every time we take the field, we are learning things about the players and how we need to improve,” Southgate said on Saturday.
The England manager said he did not want to field a hugely altered side, but that injuries would force some adjustments.
“We’ll probably have to make some changes. We’ve got doubts over (Ben) Chilwell, (Marcus) Rashford, (Jordan) Henderson. There’s a few more to check. I don’t want to make wholesale changes.
“The importance of the match is clear for us and whoever comes in needs to come into a fairly stable line-up,” he said.
Third-place games rarely set the pulse racing but Southgate rejected the notion that the game would be little more than a practice session.
“No England international is a practice match. Every time you wear this shirt, it is of importance for you, the country and the supporters. Individuals have opportunities to impress,” he said.
Switzerland lost their semi-final to the hosts 3-1, with Cristiano Ronaldo sinking their hopes with a fine hat-trick, and Southgate said they would be testing opponents for his side.
“They are very strong at playing from the back, they are a very settled team, very consistent for the last couple of years in terms of selection and method with key players like (Xherdan) Shaqiri and (Granit) Xhaka,” he said.

Nigerian Catholic priest Duru rapes 68 year-old American woman: Court papers

Father Cyprian Duru: Court papers filed by 68 year-old woman accuse him of rape
A 68-year-old retired American teacher Kathy Coll has sued a Nigerian Catholic Priest, Fr. Cyprian Duru for alleged rape in 2016.
In the 13-count suit, Coll also sued the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik, and St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Parish, her Ross Township church.
Coll was a retired high school English teacher and Eucharistic minister who sang in the choir, taught CCD classes and volunteered countless hours for her church.
She said her life changed for worse after the sexual assault by Father Duru, who was studying at Duquesne University and assisting her North Hills parish.
The widowed mother of two adult sons said she still has trouble processing how the Catholic Church responded two years ago when she reported she had been raped in 2016 by a Nigerian priest.
Kathy Coll: says no one listened to her in the Catholic Church making her resort to self -help
Her complaint, according to a report by triblive.com charges that the diocese failed to properly vet Duru before assigning him to a parish where she and others were asked to give support and assist to a predator priest from a region where clergy were known to prey on older women. She alleges that the assault occurred in December 2016. The suit was published by other Pittsburg media including CBS News and WTAE Pittsburgh.
“I spent 2 ½ years trying to get someone to listen to me,” Coll said. “No one was listening to me, so I decided it was time to say I want to make something happen here.”
She alleges that the church heard complaints from others about Duru’s inappropriate behavior toward older women, failed to act quickly, and later neglected to explain why Duru was removed from ministry after she reported her assault.
TV Screen grab of St Teresa of Avila Church: Kathy Coll’s church
Her complaint bears echoes of hundreds of allegations in last summer’s Pennsylvania grand jury report that detailed decades of church inaction against priests accused of child sexual abuse in Catholic dioceses across the state.
Coll’s suit details her account of how Duru — whom she agreed to tutor in English and occasionally transported to Pittsburgh — began taking frequent walks through her neighborhood that fall. On Dec. 11, 2016, Coll said Duru stopped by her home on the pretence of giving her a Christmas card. She said when she offered him a cold drink, he followed her to her family room, overpowered her and assaulted her as she screamed for him to stop.
Duru, who remains at Duquesne on a student visa, could not be reached for comment.
Coll’s lawyer, Pittsburgh attorney Sharon Smith, said the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute Duru.
Although Coll underwent a rape kit exam at UPMC Passavant hospital that showed evidence of intercourse, she said authorities said it would come down to a “he-said-she said” case with Duru claiming it was consensual.
A spokesman for Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala told the Trib prosecutors met with Ross Township Police, Coll and her attorney to go over the case.
“After reviewing the evidence and the investigation, we informed the victim and her attorney that based on the evidence as it exists, we cannot move forward with any charges,” said Zappala spokesman Mike Manko.
An award-winning teacher who once led active outdoor tours with her late husband, Ed, Coll said she’s reclaimed her life after months of therapy and prayer.
But she worries that a lack of diligence on the part of a church struggling to fill pulpits could expose others to danger.
“The crux of our complaint is the church’s failure to vet Duru,” said Smith. “He is a predator and shouldn’t have been here.”
A spokesman for the Pittsburgh Diocese insisted the church was never made aware of any other allegations against Duru and has been supportive of Coll.
“When the Diocese of Pittsburgh learned of the allegation against Cyprian Duru, he was immediately removed from the parish where he was in residence and his faculties were suspended,” said diocesan spokesman the Rev. Nicholas Vaskov. “He cannot function as a priest or dress in clerical attire. He is not in active ministry in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.”
He said the diocese also alerted Duru’s bishop in Nigeria of the allegations.
Duquesne University also was alerted to the allegations.
University President Kenneth Gormley said Duru is still a student at the university, but is not and has not been associated with Duquesne’s Spiritan fathers.
Gormley said he has no knowledge of Duru’s residence and declined to comment further, citing federal student privacy protections.
Vaskov said many priests from around the world have traveled to Pittsburgh to study at local universities and have taken up residence in local parishes.
Visiting priests are required to undergo FBI fingerprinting, a state criminal background check and child abuse clearance and must complete Protecting God’s Children and Mandated Reporter training and sign the diocesan Code of Pastoral Conduct, Vaskov said.
He said the Diocese also requires a reference from the sending bishop that the priest is in good standing and faces no allegations of inappropriate behavior.
“Fr. Cyprian Duru was one such student at Duquesne University,” Vaskov said. “He had residence in a parish where he would assist in the celebration of the sacraments. His bishop testified to the fact that he was in good standing as a priest before he took up residence.”

Eighteen people have been burnt to death in a ghastly motor accident involving an 18-seater bus and a truck at Oba Ile town in Akure North, Ondo State on Saturday.
The accident was said to have occurred at about 3:30am. The driver of the truck was said to have lost control of the vehicle as it rammed into the 18-seater bus approaching from the opposite direction.
The impact of the accident led to the two vehicles busting into flames which roasted all passengers.
An eyewitness’ account said the driver of the truck lost control and rammed into the bus.
“The truck was coming from Owo side. As the driver was trying to avoid a pothole on the expressway, he lost control of the vehicle and swerved off to the other lane to collide with the bus which was coming from Lagos, heading towards the northern part of the country.
