“She was suffocated with the wrapper she used in strapping the baby yo her back.”
The suspect, Pastor Okoroafor, who was reluctant to respond to questions put to him by newsmen, said he was tempted by the devil.
“I don’t know what came over me. It was the handiwork of the devil. I am just begging for forgiveness from the families,” he said.
The command appealed to members of the public to always report any suspicious movement in their vicinity. - Daily Post

Catholic bishops kick against distribution of condoms in schools

Catholic bishops kick against distribution of condoms in schools
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has kicked against the “indiscreet” distribution of condoms and contraceptive pills in schools.
It also says some provisions of the gender and equal opportunities bill are capable of legalising anti-human  and anti-family activities.
In a communiqué issued on Friday at the end of CBCN 2018 first plenary session in Abuja, the bishops faulted some of the provisions in the bill, which is currently pending at the national assembly.
The bill is sponsored by Biodun Olujimi, senator representing Ekiti south.
Although some lawmakers have argued that the provisions are contrary to some of Nigeria’s traditional and religious practices, Olujimi said it will “promote equality, development and advancement of all persons, especially young women and girl children.”
“Whereas we acknowledge some legitimate rights due to women and the need to promote them, we, nevertheless, condemn the provisions of the gender and equal opportunities bill, which could provide an avenue for the legalisation of many anti-human life and anti-family activities,” the communiqué, signed by Ignatius Kaigama, CBCN president, read.
“We therefore demand that such provisions be expunged from the bill.”
CBCN also kicked against the indiscreet distribution of condoms and contraceptive pills in schools, youth service orientation camps and health institutions.
The body advised young people to “resist any attempt to lure them into idolising sexual pleasure, using contraceptives, procuring abortion, abusing drugs, and other such vices.
“Parents have the primary responsibility of educating and supporting their children in this regard.”
On the underage voting discovered to have taken place in Kano state during the 2015 general elections, the bishops said it is unfortunate that young people “allow themselves to be used as canon fodders in electoral malpractices.
“Government and especially Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) should address these serious lapses with utmost urgency and without discrimination and bias.” - Cable Nigeria

Man beats prostitute for demanding extra N200 after prolonged sex in Lagos

A trader at Ladipo market in Lagos, identified as Kelvin Duru has been accused of beating up a prostitute for demanding more pay for extra rounds of sex.
Duru was dragged before an Ejigbo magistrates’ court after he engaged the services of a sex worker in a popular hotel but refused to pay for extra rounds of sex with the 32-year old Blessing Isi.
According to PM Express, the request for extra money caused a serious quarrel between Kelvin and Blessing and in the process, he allegedly dealt some blows on her and injured the commercial sex worker on the mouth.
The incident happened at the popular brothel located at Mosalashi Street off Lafenwa Road in Ejigbo, Lagos.
Blessing told the court that Kelvin approached her for a sex romp and she charged him N500 with the hope that he would spend very little time and pay her the fee.
She said when he stayed for almost two hours, she then protested but he promised to add extra N200 to make it N700.
Blessing said Duru later gave her N1000 and asked for change. She then gave him N300 but he insisted that she will not collect the extra N200 which caused the fight and he injured her.
The Edo state-born Blessing claimed that during the fight, Kelvin stole her N76,000 which she kept in her room where the fight took place.
Duru, however, said when he contacted Blessing they agreed on N500 before they started the romp.
He said at the middle of the action, she said that he had wasted much time and should add another N200 which he agreed since he was still in the action.
When he finished, he then insisted that he will not pay the extra money.
He denied that he stole any money from her bag.
Duru was charged to court for assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted Duru bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Pochettino : Dembele 'a genius of football' like Maradona and Ronaldinho

MousaDembele - cropped: Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Mousa Dembele to be "a genius of football" like Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho.
Dembele has received rave reviews in recent weeks as Spurs emerged unbeaten from a run of fixtures that included clashes with Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus.
The former Fulham man has been key to this fine form and his manager was in no mood to play down the midfielder's talents ahead of Tottenham's next Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
"I can talk about [Dembele] because I know very well him after nearly four years," Pochettino told a pre-match news conference. "I have told you - and some people use my word to describe him - he is a genius of football.
"He is this type of player I put next to Ronaldinho, Maradona, [Jay-Jay] Okocha – players that I was lucky to play with. For me, he is one of the unbelievable talents in the history of football.
"For him, it was always difficult to be fit – he's always fighting for his fitness – but now he's in an amazing moment and he deserves all the praise people are giving him."
Pochettino is hoping Dembele can again stand out at Selhurst Park, where he is expecting a tough test against Roy Hodgson's Palace.
"It will be a big battle," he said of the match. "Roy and his staff are doing a fantastic job. It will be good to see them again.
"We need to match them in the areas of motivation and [being] ready to fight and then, of course, try to deliver our way and our game. It will be very tough.
"It will be very important to win the three points, fighting for the top four. The idea is to win, the idea is to fight, to be ready. The three points are massive for us." - Goal

PL news : Man United reportedly fail to offer Martial new contract

United winger Anthony Martial has not been offered a new contract extension by the club after talks broke down between the two parties, according to reports in France.

Martial has been one of United’s most important players so far this season so it comes as a surprise that he is yet to be offered a new deal at the club.

The arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January has slowed down the Frenchman’s progress, with him gaining a number of starts prior to this spell of games where Sanchez has played.
The United youngster would be in with a strong chance of making his country’s squad ahead of the World Cup but given his current situation, this may now not be the case.
It’s stated by the reports in France that despite joining some time ago, Martial is yet to buy a house in the vicinity of Manchester, indicating that he could yet be on the move. - Read Sport

According to the police boss, the arrest of Onwuegbuchulam has signaled the closure of this criminal gang and their nefarious activities.
Ezike recalled, “I addressed the Press on June 13, 2017, on this subject matter where I stated that on February 22, 2017, an armed robbery gang trailed a bank customer to the Wetheral Road branch of Zenith Bank, Owerri and unleashed attack within the bank premises.

Authority stealing !!! FAAC disbursed N6.418trn in 2017 — almost twice Ghana’s 2017 budget

The Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) says the federal account allocation committee (FAAC) disbursed N6.418 trillion to the federal, state and local governments in 2017.
At an exchange rate of N305 to a dollar, this is $21 billion and is almost two times the size of the Ghanaian national budget, which was $13 billion in 2017.
Ghana, a neighbouring West African country, depends on crude oil, cocoa and gold with a population of 28.21 million as of 2016.
According to NEITI, FAAC disbursements increased by 25.8 percent and 6.8 percent when compared to total disbursements of N5.1 trillion and N6.011 trillion in 2016 and 2015 respectively.
However, it is still 34.1 percent and 25.3 percent lower than total disbursements of N9.742 trillion and N8.595 trillion in 2013 and 2014 respectively; meaning that revenue has not yet reached pre-oil price crash levels.
“The NEITI review attributed the revenue increase in 2017 to rising oil prices, improved oil production, and greater attention towards development of non-oil revenue sectors. It projected brighter prospects in 2018 as a result of the current oil price which recently hovered around $70 per barrel, in addition to upsurge in oil production,” the NEITI quarterly review read.
Osun got the lowest allocation while Akwa Ibom received the highest.
“Only four states received above N100 billion: Bayelsa (N105.3 billion), Delta (N111.2 billion), Rivers (N119.6 billion) and Akwa Ibom (N143.6 billion),” the report read.
“Total FAAC disbursements to states as a percentage of their budgets ranged from 7.6% in Osun State to 57% in Yobe state.
“Many states rely on FAAC disbursements to fund their budgets. The lower FAAC disbursements to states which started in 2014 have resulted in chronic shortage of funds for many states.
“These figures mean that the states will have to focus more efforts on generating revenue . However, this gap is so much that it is likely that many states will not be able to generate sufficient funds to close this gap. They might need to resort to increased borrowing, which is already at alarming levels.” - Cable Nigeria

Ogbeni Sarakonda !!! Residents Of Kwara Local Gov't Denounces Nigeria, Claims Benin Republic

Residents of Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State have denounced their Nigerian citizenship. They said they now to belong to the Republic of Benin.
The residents attributed their decision to long neglect of the local government in terms of basic infrastructure by the Kwara State government.
In a statement made available to journalists, Abdulrazaq O. Hamzat of Kwara Must Change accused Kwara politicians of deceiving residents of the local government with promises during electioneering campaign.
He said since the creation of Kwara state over 51 years ago, no single meaningful project has been done in the local government by either state or federal government.
Hamzat said some members of Kwara Must Change residing in the local government confided in the group that they have since lost hope in the Kwara State government and have silently denounced their Kwara State citizenship due to absolute neglect.
”I am from Baruten local government, in Gwanara district specifically. We call ourselves citizens of Benin Republic because we are not sure if we are part of Kwara state. From Gwanara, we travel to Saki in Oyo state for medical treatments and some even die on the road while going."
‘’Others go to the Benin Republic for medical treatments too, because we really lack everything at Baruten especially Gwanara district’’.
Read Hamzat’s full story below:
Kwara Must Change wishes to bring to public attention, the unfortunate situation in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State that has made the people denounce their beloved Kwara State.
Baruten is a Local Government in Kwara State sharing border with the Benin Republic, but unfortunately, there is no road leading to the Local Government from Kwara State.
When going to Baruten, one has to travel a long distance to neighboring Oyo State before connecting back to Baruten Local Government. However, apart from Oyo State, one can as well travel to the Benin Republic and come in through the other axis.
Although Nigeria’s border road to Benin Republic located in Gwanara district of Baruten Local Government is stinkingly terrible, notwithstanding, one can still use it at grave discomfort.
According to the people living in the local government, since the creation of Kwara state over 51 years ago, no single meaningful project has been done in the local government by either state or federal government.
A few days ago, some members of Kwara Must Change residing in the local government confided in us that they have since lost hope in the Kwara State government and have silently denounced their Kwara State citizenship due to absolute neglect.
‘’I am from Baruten Local Government, in Gwanara district specifically. We call ourselves citizens of Benin Republic because we are not sure if we are part of Kwara state. From Gwanara, we travel to Saki in Oyo state for medical treatments and some even die on the road while going’."
"Others go to Benin Republic for medical treatments too, because we really lack everything at Baruten especially Gwanara district’."
This is why Kwara Must Change is forced to ask the Kwara State government if Baruten Local Government is no longer part of Kwara State. If they are part of the State, why is Kwara State government not responsible for those living in Baruten and why are they completely abandoned over the years?
It is important to note that, the Kwara State governor, Senator representing Kwara North and other office holders often go to Baruten during electioneering campaigns. When they go there, they make all sorts of promises, but after getting into office, they forget the people.
We contend that if the government cannot build an ordinary road into Baruten Local Government, how would they provide schools, medical facilities, and other infrastructural developments?
Kwara Must Change is hereby calling on the Kwara State government to tell the people of Baruten their fate, whether or not they remain part of Kwara State and Nigeria in extension.
