SHEGE BUHARI !!! Report: Nigeria’s number of IDPs rivals that of countries at war

A new report by SBM Intelligence, Nigeria’s geopolitical intelligence platform, says the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) in Nigeria is almost the same with countries that are officially at war.

The organisation said it conducted a study on how the proliferation of small arms in the country is linked with mass atrocities and mass migration.

The intelligence gathering group also said a toxic mix of small arms proliferation, youth under/unemployment and general disaffection is likely to drive future agitations in Nigeria.

“The proliferation of small arms and light weapons has driven the rise in violence in Nigeria. This violence has led to mass displacement, and has resulted in Nigeria having a number of internally displaced people that rivals countries which are officially at war. Over the course of a year between May 2019 and April 2020,” the report said.

“The proliferation of arms in Southern Nigeria has driven the increasing rate of violence in the region. This includes, but is not limited to; communal clashes, cultism (Nigerian speak for gang violence), kidnappings, ethnic and religious clashes, and militancy in the Niger Delta.

“A combination of proliferation of small weapons, already existing state corruption, large tracts of ungoverned spaces, and mass unemployment has largely been responsible for the rising criminality and violence in Northern Nigeria. In the Northern Central region, there have been tensions between sedentary farmers and nomadic Fulani herders who are increasingly moving southwards due to climate change pressures to access pastureland.

“The drivers of mass displacement include, generalised violence, violations of human rights, high rate of insecurity, mostly in the Northern part of the country; Boko Haram attacks, the continuous Fulani herdsmen and Farmers crisis which has spread across the six geopolitical zones in the country.

“SBM Intelligence also confirmed other reasons for the extremely high numbers of IDPs in Nigeria to include natural or human-made disasters (like floods) and in most cases, scarcity of resources. IDPs live within the local populations but are pressured to flee their homes and in some instances, to seek refuge in border countries.

“In 2014, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) estimated that as many as 1,000 refugees a week flee Nigeria mainly because of violence from Boko Haram; crossing the border into Niger’s Diffa region to seek refuge.”

SBM intelligence added that the tensions in the county have led to armed confrontations, mass killings and further displacement of some farming communities.

Ronaldo is best player in history – Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Former Swedish International and Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has named Brazil legend Ronaldo as ‘the best player in history’.

Ibrahimovic expressed his admiration towards the former Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSV, Inter and AC Milan star.

He put the World Cup winner ahead Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who are believed to be the greatest of all time.

Ibrahimovic, 39, believes Ronaldo Nazario, who led Brazil to World Cup glory in 2002, transcended the game of football with his unique talents.

Speaking with Discovery Plus, Ibrahimovic who has won over 30 trophies, said, “I don’t need to describe Ronaldo, ‘The Phenomenon’.

“I always say you have the players that play the game, and the players that are the game.

“For me, Ronaldo is the game. When you watch him play, everyone wanted to play like him and become like him.

“The way he was moving, the way he did his stepovers, the way he did ‘the snake’. The way he was moving, for me he’s the greatest player through history, no doubt.”

Ronaldo scored 296 career goals in 452 matches in total, and won three FIFA World Player of the Year awards and two Ballon d’Or.

His first Ballon d’Or was historic as the youngest player to have won at 21.

Bandits brought into Nigeria by people who wanted to oust Jonathan, Mailafia claims

Obadiah Mailafia, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), says bandits were brought into Nigeria in 2015 by powerful people who wanted former President Goodluck Jonathan out of power.

In an interview with The Punch, on Thursday, Mailafia said those powerful individuals intended to deploy the bandits for war if Jonathan did not concede the 2015 presidential election.

Mailafia did not provide any proof and is known for making unsubstantiated claims.

The former CBN deputy governor also said there should be no amnesty for the bandits because they are only out to destroy.

“During the 2015 elections they brought in thousands of foreigners into this country, armed them because it was a case of if Goodluck Jonathan doesn’t surrender, there will be war. They were ready for civil war; they were not ready for peace,” Mailafia said.

“Of course, Jonathan handed over to them and then they turned their backs on the hoodlums and the hoodlums said ‘look, you brought us here and we are still here’.

“There are certain world powers that want to destroy our country. That is what I believe. There was a container load of weapons that were brought in from Turkey. Another time some were brought in from Iran. But nobody probed further and everything was swept under the carpet and that was the end of it.

“I do not believe that the Niger Delta militancy can be compared to the terrorists. These people (terrorists) are not even bandits. A bandit is a common thief or a brigand. The ‘agbero’ are bandits. These people carrying sophisticated weapons and rockets are not bandits. They are terrorists.

“They have killed, they have maimed, they have raped and they have wreaked havoc.”

In August 2020, Mailafia was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his claim that a governor from the north is the leader of Boko Haram.

After his release from DSS custody, Mailafia said he was ready to lay down his life for the country like Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, did for his country.

But in an interview with BBC Hausa, Mailafia later said he got the information from “some traders” in the market and did not know that his statement would go viral.

He admitted that he had no evidence to back up the claim.

I’ll ban alcohol, legalise weed if I become President – Naira Marley

Popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley has disclosed his plans for Nigerians if he becomes President.

Naira Marley in a video said he would ban alcohol and legalise weed in order to discourage men from beating up their wives.

The ‘Marlian’ President also said he would ensure 24 hours supply of electricity and will promote unity among different religions and tribes if he becomes president.

“If I become President, I’ll ban alcohol and legalise weed because men beat up their wives under the influence of alcohol and drink and drive but if you smoke weed, nothing of such happens.

“I’ll also provide 24hrs of electricity. I will not allow anyone to pollute the air with generator fume.

“I don’t want to hear Christianity, Muslim separation comments or separation among Nigerians because of tribe. We must all be one,” Naira Marley said.

This is not the first time a celebrity would call for the legalization of weed.

Recall that Zlatan had earlier said he would grow a farm and legalize weed if he becomes President of Nigeria.

#JUNGLEREPUBLIC ! 493 killed since new service chiefs took over — a slight drop in one month

At least 493 Nigerians have reportedly been killed as a result of insecurity since President Muhammadu Buhari appointed new service chiefs.

However, the number is slightly less than that of the preceding month before they were appointed.

TheCable studied casualties reported in the media and found that the victims are mostly in the northern parts of the country where bandits and Boko Haram insurgents have been on a rampage.

One month ago, precisely on January 26, Buhari replaced the nation’s service chiefs after heavy criticism about their performance.

While their replacement drew ith sighs of relief from many Nigerians, Bashir Magashi, minister of defence, had also promised the new service chiefs will deliver on expectations concerning Nigeria’s security challenges.

However, the reverse appears to be the case as it has been one month of agony, looting and killings as criminals continue to unleash mayhem on helpless citizens.

An analysis of data from the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) showed that from January 26 to February 26 when new security heads took office, 493 persons have been killed mostly by bandits in the north.

The casualties do not include crime suspects nor does it cover those in the custody of security agencies.

However, the total number of casualties is slightly less than the killings experienced in the preceding month.

The data assessed from CFR showed that not less than 538 persons were killed across the country within the last month the former service chiefs operated.

When compared to the first month of their successors, it shows the number of deaths from security incidents has decreased by eight percent decrease.

As Nigeria continues to battle insecurity under the Buhari administration now in its sixth year, many are questioning the president’s ability to secure citizens.

But the president maintains that he is doing his best to improve the security situation.

Zamfara school abduction: Settle differences, demand Buhari’s resignation – Aisha Yesufu tells Nigerians

Aisha Yesufu, a popular Nigerian activist has called for a march to the Aso Villa in demand for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Aisha made the call while reacting to the recent abduction of about 300 schoolgirls from Zamfara Government Secondary School, Jangebe, by suspected armed bandits.

The Zamfara Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran while confirming the abduction told newsmen that the abductors in their hundreds invaded the town and took away the students at about 2am on Friday morning.

According to Aisha, the government has emboldened terrorists to continue kidnapping and has resigned from its responsibilities to protect the lives of Nigerians.

She urged Nigerians to put aside their differences and come together to march to the Villa in demand for Buhari’s resignation.

On her Twitter page, Aisha wrote: “Terrorists have been emboldened to keep attacking and abducting. Government has been enabled to keep abdicating its responsibilities.

“When we are sick and tired of the atrocities, we will forget our differences and go en masse to the Villa and demand Buhari resigns. “

LASTMA officials to carry body cameras – GM

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olajide Oduyoye, has said that the agency would now deploy technology to nab traffic offenders in Lagos State. The MD said that officers would use bodily cameras precisely to catch traffic offenders.

Mr. Olajide said this while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily’ programme.

The GM who said technology is way to go for LASTMA said the state governor, Babjide Sanwo-Olu is working towards helping the agency acquire the necessary technologies needed.

According to the GM the governor approved the deployment of technology for them to improve communication last year.

“This year, we are definitely hoping to start in the next few weeks what you will say are non-approachable offence dealings. That means we are going to be having body cameras on officers to capture incidences because things happen so fast and you can’t really say let me get my camera. But if you have your body camera on that is recording, then, you can capture all sorts of different things that you can use against offenders, he said further.

The LASTMA MD also alleged that some traffic violators most times remove traffic signs to deliberately disobey road laws.

“Those who willfully disobey traffic signs go in the middle of the night to remove those signs. When they are caught, they will say that there were no signs. They go and remove the signs to prove they aren’t aware of the signs. This happens all the time,” he said.
