Taraba ‘kidnap kingpin’ rose from ‘fish seller to multimillionaire’

Report: Taraba ‘kidnap kingpin’ rose from ‘fish seller to multimillionaire’
Hamisu Wadume, suspected kidnap kingpin in Taraba, was a poor fish seller until he took to kidnapping, according to The Sun.

The young man was reportedly trading in both fresh and dried fish in Wukari, Taraba, up till last year when he went into kidnapping where he was said to have made millions.

Wadume was said to have started kidnapping with six AK-47 riffles and 3,000, rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested by the intelligence response team (IRT) of the inspector-general of police but escaped when soldiers opened fire on the team.

Three policemen and a civilian were shot dead in the incident.

Gbenga Adebowale identified as one of the arms supplier of Wadume has been arrested by the police.

He said he met Wadume through one of his clients in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The Sun quoted Adebowale as saying he never knew Wadume was into kidnapping, adding that he is not in position to ask his customers what they wanted to use the weapons for.

“I got to know him through one Moses. You know the firearm business involves a lot of people; it is not a one-man business; it’s a cartel and we have bases and we are based in different places like Lagos, Ibadan and Onitsha,” Adebowale reportedly said.

“So, I got to know Hamisu through one Moses from Onitsha. Hamisu is a friend to Doshima and Dillili and they usually come from Makurdi, to see Moses who is my partner in firearms business; that was how I met him. There was a time I traveled to do supply in Onitsha; that was the first time I met them and that was about four years ago.

“They came together to Onitsha. He wasn’t my customer, so I didn’t have much dealings with him; I only chatted with him because my business is a mafia kind of business; so I’m careful with the kind of people I deal with. Besides, I didn’t want my partner to think that I wanted to steal his customers from him, so I decided to stay away from them.

“I think he asked for ten AK47 rifles, and I didn’t have that number at the time in my possession. But since he said he was in desperate need of them, I told him I had only six and four cans because he requested for ten. The ammunition is called can. The box of the ammunition is called can. So I said I could only provide six AK-47 and four cans that is the box of the ammunition. That was late January this year.

“Well, since he was in desperate need of the weapons, the AK was supposed to be N650,000, but I sold them to him for N800,000. Then the ammunition I gave to him at the rate of N350,000.”

Adebowale said he smuggles the arms from neighbouring countries and supplies them to his clients across the country, well-concealed in a vehicle designed for the consignments.

UI bans male visitors from female hostels, gives reason

The management of University of Ibadan has announced that male visitors have henceforth been banned from entering any of the female hostels in the institution.

The institution announced that the decision to ban male visitors from the hostels was necessitated by recent robbery attacks on female hostels in the institution.

DAILY POST recalls that some armed robbers had in July this year, attacked the Obafemi Awolowo hall, where students’ property ranging from mobile telephones, laptops and money were forcefully taken away from the innocent female students. Our correspondent gathered that, no fewer than two students were injured in the robbery attack in the female hostel.

A similar incident was recorded at the Abubakar Abdulsalami hall, a post graduate hostel, in the early hours of Sunday, where students’ property were taken away. Some students were also injured during the Sunday attack.

But, the institution in a release titled, “Security measures in Queen Elizabeth Hall, Queen Idia Hall and Obafemi Awolowo Hall”, said that as part of measures to curtain the robbery attacks, female students should also be screened at the Porters’ lodge in the female hostels.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Idowu Olayinka, in a statement obtained by DAILY POST on Tuesday, added that residents of the female hostels are to receive visitors outside their respective hostels.

Olayinka said, “In view of recent security situation on the Campus male visitors are henceforth prohibited from entering the above listed Female Halls of Residence.

“The Residents of the aforementioned Halls can only receive their male visitors outside the Hall. Female visitors should be screened at the Porters’ Lodge.

“Moreover, all male visitors are expected to leave the precincts of the female Halls by 8:30 pm. Any one found loitering will be regarded as a suspect.”

My Indian hospital condition worse than prison: El-Zakzaky cries

Shiite leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has alleged that the condition at the Medanta Hospital in India, where he was taken on Tuesday is worse than that of Nigeria and the prison.

Premium Times, quoting a trending audio of El-Zakzaky, said the religious leader would love to return to Nigeria or seek the services of doctors in Turkey or Malaysia.

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), was flown to India on Monday following a Kaduna court order last week.

He had requested to be allowed to travel to India for advanced medical treatment following the deterioration of his health and that of his wife, Zeenat, in detention.

Both of them have been detained since December 2015 after a clampdown by soldiers who killed at least 347 IMN members.

In the audio, Mr El-Zakzaky accused the Nigerian government of frustrating his medical treatment in India.

Speaking in Hausa, he said the situation at the hospital in India is “pathetic and worrisome situation.”

He said the management of Medanta Hospital, New Delhi, had been threatened not to admit him for treatment.

“The hospital officials received us well they told us that they parked two ambulance vehicles, deceiving the crowd while taking us out through another way, saying that it was for our own safety.

“On getting to the hospital, we are placed under a tighter security situation worse than what we have been witnessed in Nigeria. We are currently more confined than when we were in Nigeria, worse than prison setting.

“Contrary to what was agreed before our arrival, that our own personal doctors would supervise this treatment. Now they’ve changed the arrangement. So, we objected receiving treatment from strange doctors without the supervision of our own trusted physicians,’’ he noted.

In the audio, the IMN leader said he wants to return to Nigeria to source for a reliable and trusted hospital among those countries that offer help.

“There are some other countries that volunteered to help which include Malaysia, Turkey,’’ he said.

His position tallies with that of his followers who on Tuesday accused the Nigerian government and American secret service of frustrating the medical treatment of their leader at Medanta Hospital, New Delhi, India.

Secretary of Academic Forum of the movement, Abdullahi Musa claimed that the security agents, who accompanied El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, have connived with foreign security agents and threatened the management of the hospital not to admit him for treatment.

He said that the agents believed to be working with US Embassy in India have perfected plans to frustrate the medical treatment.

“Reports reaching us from the hospital indicate that the security agents are colluding with foreign security agents believed to be working for the American Government.

“Earlier, even before the Sheikh arrived at the hospital, we gathered from competent source that officials of US Embassy in India instructed management of the hospital not to admit him there for treatment.”

The sect called on international community and people of conscience to prevail on the Nigerian Government and its “western masters” to stop playing with the life of their leader and allow him access to the treatment.

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Monday dissolved a 13-year-old marriage between one Mr Monday Adiri, and his wife, Dominica, for calling her husband an ‘impotent man.

The petitioner, Adiri, a 43-year-old clearing agent, alleged that Domnica, called him impotent and moved out of their matrimonial home with their two-year-ago daughter.

The President of the Court, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, while delivering judgment, stated that since the petitioner insisted on the divorce after several interventions, the court was left with no option other than to grant his wishes.

He, however, pronounced the union dissolved.

He said, “The court, hereby, pronounces the marriage between Monday Adiri and Dominica dissolved today, both of you have henceforth ceased to be husband and wife.

”The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Monday Adiri and Dominica dissolved today, both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.

“Each of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested, the court wishes both of you well in your future endeavor.”

Koledoye granted Dominica custody of the only child of the marriage, aged nine, and ordered Adiri to pay N5, 000 monthly for the child’s feeding.

He also ordered Adiri to N250,000 in damages to the respondent for the injury she sustained when he hit her head on the wall.

Earlier, Adiri said: ”my wife embarrasses me in the public. She tells anyone who cares to listen that I am not the biological father of our daughter. She calls me impotent.”

“I came back from work and discovered that my wife had moved virtually everything in the house including my furniture, electronics, gas cooker, kitchen utensils among other items.

“When I could not reach her, I called her brother who told me that she had relocated to their family house that if I am still interested in marrying her, I should come and see their family.

“Dominica told her family to return the bride price that she was no longer interested in marrying me, I initially refused to accept it since I am not in the position to collect it.

Making her submission, Dominica, denied all the allegations. She also accused her husband of infidelity.

“I noticed that a particular woman used to call him, on that fateful day, the woman called as usual and my husband was not in the room, so I picked the call, I discovered that the woman is my husband’s concubine.

“I told the woman that I was the wife of the owner of the phone, she quickly ended the call when she discovered that she was not talking to my husband.

“When my husband got into the room and discovered that I had answered his call, he got angry with me.

“Monday, who is looking for an excuse to dump me, ordered me to leave his house or I face the consequences claiming that I am too old for him but I am just a year older than him.

The 44-year-old businesswoman said that she relocated temporarily to her village for treatment due to assaults.

Why there will be crisis in Nigeria if Nigerian government insists on RUGA – Obule

The Delta State Coordinator of the New Nigerian Democratic Evolution, NNDE, Comrade Francis Obule has warned the Federal Government that there will be crisis across the country if the Rural Grazing Area, popularly known as “RUGA is reintroduced in the country.

Obule handed down the warning in a chat with DAILY POST in Warri.

He said the Federal Government should not end at suspending the programme, but it should be totally abolished for the restoration of permanent peace in the land.

Obule who is a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said, “I don’t think RUGA is a way to settle the herders and farmers clashes.

“Cattle rearing business is a private business. It is not the Federal Government business. If you want to rear your cows you can buy your own land, that is if the landowners are ready to sell to you. It is wrong to say that if we don’t give them land for RUGA settlement there would be crisis”.

Obule stated that there is no land for RUGA settlement in any part of the Niger Delta region, stressing that the Federal Government should not in disguise collect peoples’ land for Fulani herdsmen.

Obule, however, commended the Federal Government for listening to the outcry of the people, saying the policy was “Anti-People” and “Anti–South.”

Obule further said that RUGA was a policy that would have resulted to a breakup of the country, maintaining that since the government came up with the policy, the polity had been heated up.

“I am in total support of the cancellation of the Ruga project rather than suspension. We believe and hope that President Buhari would have no reason to revisit the highly inflammable Ruga settlement issue again.

He noted that there is law in the country and that it is an offence to carry guns all about apart from the armed forces, stressing that of the Hausa /Fulani herdsmen are armed mostly with Ak47 riffle gun.

“If you carry AK 47 riffle gun and you are not a member of the Armed Force and not a Fulani nor Hausa, you will be arrested. What right has the Fulani herdsmen to carry AK47 guns? The law is for everybody. Don’t you know that two AK 47 guns can seize a whole community? It’s not proper for the Federal Government to commit itself to the protection of Fulani herdsman with a plan to acquire peoples’ land for Ruga settlement. To me, it is another form colonialism.

“We do not have land to give to anybody as grazing field or colony. We call on the South-South and South-East governors to maintain their stand that they do not have such a place. Do you know what it means to give 20-30 hectares of land to herdsmen? We say no to that. Any traditional ruler who ignores his people and proceeds to give land to herdsmen or Fulani jihadists should be dethroned.”

He commended former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for his recent letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on the terrible security situation in the country, urging him to continue to speak for the masses and the down-trodden Nigerians.

Fight or be out of boxing for years – Anthony Joshua’s camp warns Andy Ruiz Jr

Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn has made it clear to Andy Ruiz Jr that their rematch will absolutely take place in Saudi Arabia.

Ruiz had claimed in an Instagram post that the second fight with Joshua will be on “my terms” and “in the United States”.

Joshua invoked a rematch clause which was part of Ruiz Jr’s original contract for their first fight on June 1 after he lost his IBF, WBA and WBO belts to the Mexican.

Hearns insists that as a result, details of the rematch do not need to be agreed in fresh negotiations.

“The contract for the rematch was signed prior to the first fight.

“They are both signed at the same time. There is no other contract.

“We have to let [Ruiz Jr] know the time, date and venue which we have done. That’s it.

“They are contractually bound for the rematch.

“There are no conversations between the two teams about not doing the fight. I don’t perceive a problem.

“He signed a contract with us that he was absolutely over the moon with, that gave him the opportunity of a lifetime. He will 100 per cent honour that contract.

“His choice is to have a legal battle that could put him out of boxing for years, or to defend his belts for a lot of money against a guy he has already beaten. There isn’t any doubt he will take the fight,” Hearn told Sky Sports.
