Buhari’s government is cursed – Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel has described the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as directionless and like a curse.
He also said the administration is the worst in the history of Nigeria, adding its days were numbered.
According to the Punch, the cleric stated this during the church’s service at its international headquarters in Ota, Ogun State on Sunday, accusing the government of attempting to criminalise hate speech while doing nothing to halt killing of innocent Nigerians by armed groups.
He was reacting to the Hate Speech Bill currently before the Senate, being sponsored by Senator Sabi Abdullahi, describing it as the most ridiculous bill anyone could think of.

Oyedepo said, “The government in this country is making a draconian law – hate speech. They said if you speak hatefully, you have committed murder. Out of someone who says I will kill you and the one who kills, who has committed a crime? I don’t understand which kind of animal farm we live in.
“I said stop stepping on my toes and you said that is hate speech but somebody kills, and he is walking free on the streets. This is the most stupid and nonsensical ideal anybody can think of.
“I said you are bad and you said that is a crime. Must I say you are good when you are bad?
“In my view you are bad and you shouldn’t be a leader. I have the right to say so. As far as I am concerned, I am a true born and thoroughly-bred Nigerian, an intelligent one. In my view, this is the worst thing that has happened to Nigeria — this government. It is the worst and in fact, it is like a curse.
“I have been here for some time and I led the first prayer and fasting for Nigeria in 1979. I am not a baby in the affairs of Nigeria. This is the worst government, a government with no direction. Their days are numbered. I can tell you as a prophet that their days are numbered,” he said.

Police officers’ wives demand husbands’ redeployment over Boko Haram killings

Wives of police officers fighting Boko Haram in the north-east, on Friday, staged a protest asking the federal government to redeploy their husbands from the combat zone.
Dressed in black attire and matching through some streets in Jos, the women accused the government of neglecting their husbands despite the constant killings by the insurgents.
“Our hearts are troubled,” a protester who identified herself as Mrs Gabriel said.
“Every day, we are being turned into widows due to the fight against Boko Haram in the north-east, because our husbands who are deployed in the region are daily being killed by the terrorists without anything being done. The situation is unbearable to us.”
Mrs Ilya, another protester, said: “Why are our husbands not being redeployed according to the terms of their engagement? Some of them have overstayed in their places of assignment, yet they just abandon them to their fate,   making them easy preys to the terrorists who have sophisticated weapons.
“Many of them have been killed with the information kept secret from their families while those who managed to be alive are not allowed to visit their families for many years.
“The federal government should have pity on us and save our husbands from avoidable death.
“That is why we are calling on the  government to redeploy them before we all become widows.”

Reacting to the protest, Ubah Ogaba, spokesman of the state police command, said Isaac Akinmoyede, the commissioner of police, would call the women for a stakeholders’ meeting so as to resolve the issue amicably.

Britain’s biggest retailer Tesco said Monday that it has agreed to sell its businesses in Thailand and Malaysia to Thai conglomerate CP Group for £8.0 billion ($10.4 billion, 9.2 billion euros).
“Following inbound interest and a detailed strategic review of all options, we are announcing today the proposed sale of Tesco Thailand and Tesco Malaysia,” said outgoing Chief Executive Dave Lewis in a statement.
He said the supermarket chain would return £5.0 billion of the proceeds to investors.
“This sale releases material value and allows us to further simplify and focus the business, as well as to return significant value to shareholders.”
Tesco added that the divestment will also slash debt and streamline the group, enabling a “stronger focus” on UK, Irish and central European activities.
“The disposal will further de-risk the Tesco business by reducing indebtedness through a £2.5-billion pension contribution that, along with other measures, is expected to eliminate the current funding deficit and significantly reduce the prospect of having to make further pension deficit contributions in the future,” the retailer said.
The move was unanimously agreed by the Tesco board, but remains conditional on shareholder and regulatory approvals. The deal is set to complete in the second half of this year.

The announcement comes as Dave Lewis prepares to step down in 2020, having overseen a major overhaul at Tesco during his five years at the helm, axing thousands of jobs as part of a massive cost-cutting programme.
Lewis is leaving for personal reasons and will be replaced by Walgreens Boots Alliance executive Ken Murphy.
