Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a passenger was forcibly dragged from a plane by security staff after an airline overbooked his flight.

The video, which has gone viral since it was posted on Sunday, shows three men wearing security jackets aggressively pull the man from his aisle seat and drag him across the floor towards the exit.

Security officers are seen confronting the man, who seemingly refuses to leave his seat, before grabbing hold of him.

The man, whose age and name is not yet known, is pulled so forcibly by the staff that his jumper rises above his head as he is dragged across the floor.

Shocked passengers can also be seen angrily shouting at the security staff, while screams can also be heard seemingly coming from the passenger as he is being dragged from his seat.

The 31-second video, which has been viewed almost 150,000 times since it was posted on Facebook, was taken on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Louisville.

Audra Bridges posted the video and said the incident left her and fellow passengers “shaky and disgusted”.

She posted: “We are on this flight. United airlines overbooked the flight.

“They randomly selected people to kick off so their standby crew could have a seat.

“This man is a doctor and has to be at the hospital in the morning. He did not want to get off. We are all shaky and so disgusted.”

A spokesman for United Airlines has since confirmed that a passenger had to be removed from the flight due to overbooking.

He told American website the Courier Journal: “Flight 3411 from Chicago to Louisville was overbooked.

"After our team looked for volunteers, one customer refused to leave the aircraft voluntarily and law enforcement was asked to come to the gate.

"We apologise for the overbook situation. Further details on the removed customer should be directed to authorities."

Whistleblower Leads EFCC To Another N250m Recovery

Relying on a whistleblower's tip-off, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered the sum N250,558,670 (Two hundred and fifty million, five hundred and fifty eight thousand, six hundred and seventy Naira), which is the parallel market naira value of the money recovered from a Bureau de Change operator in Balogun Market, Lagos today.
The Commission received information that about N250 million in cash was being moved somewhere in the market for conversion into foreign currency. Operatives responded timely to the scene, met the money in the BDC office, but a large chunk of it had been converted into Euro and Pounds sterling.
The BDC operators found in possession of the monies claimed they were acting on behalf of their boss who sent the money to them from one of the Northern states in Nigeria. The converted monies were €547,730 and £21,090 as well as N5,648,500 which was to be converted, but for the coming of EFCC operatives.

Two persons were apprehended, and they are helping the commission in its investigation.N250m recovered by the EFCC

El-Rufai Releases Details Of Security Budget, Pay Slip, Challenges National Assembly To Disclose Budget Details

Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Nasir El-Rufai, has responded to the call made by Mr. Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, that the Kaduna State government should disclose details of its security votes and local government expenditure. Mr. Dogara's call was a response to Mr. El-Rufai’s request to the National Assembly (NASS) to lift the cloak of opacity by providing further details the on N115 billion 2016 NASS budget.
Responding to Mr. Dogara via a statement signed by his Special Assistant (Media and Publicity), Mr. Sam Aruwan, the Kaduna State governor said he welcomed Mr. Dogara's challenge because such is necessary to strengthen the country's democracy.
Specifically, El-Rufai told the House of Representatives Speaker that the budgets of all state governments in Nigeria are detailed and presented under the headings of personnel cost, overhead and capital expenditure which, unlike the NASS budget, is a single-line item of over N100 billion. The governor also noted the the federal legislative budget discloses no information or details.
"NASS can, at least, break down its own single-line budget into the hundreds of line items that are detailed in every state government budget in Nigeria. It is disingenuous to respond to every request for transparency by casting aspersions," said Mr. El-Rufai.
He explained that the Kaduna State government has regularly made public all its budget details.
"In 2016, in an unprecedented step, the state published not only its own budget, but also that of all the 23 local government councils online on the www.openkaduna.com.ng website. The local government budgets provide details of the recurrent and capital spending of every single local government in a transparent manner. The proposed 2017 local government budgets, currently before the State Assembly, are also already online on the same website, and on www.kdsg.gov.ng. Approved State Budgets 2016-2017 can be found on http://openkaduna.com.ng/Budget/approved-budget," the Kaduna State governor stated. He invited Mr. Dogara to download the budgets and go through at his convenience.
On the subject of security votes, Mr. El-Rufai said if Mr. Dogara had bothered to conduct an online search, he would have found the details of the state government's spending priorities on security.
The governor explained that the Kaduna Comprehensive Security Architecture (KADCoSA), which shapes security spending, rests on four pillars: Justice, Technology, Community Engagement and Support to Security Agencies.
"The 2017 budget details specific amounts N1.5billion for the procurement and installation of CCTV cameras for monitoring and surveillance towards reducing criminal activities within the metropolis; N193million for procurement of Geo-position Interceptor and location of GSM UMTS System to check the trends and Intercept/locate kidnappers’ GSM calls N265 million for the procurement of drones/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to identify locations of armed bandits in our forest reserves across the state and the establishment of a forensic laboratory to assist in determining substantial evidence in cases that otherwise proved difficult. In addition, N2.6billon is allocated in 2017 to support the network of federal security agencies in Kaduna with communications, logistics and materials," the governor further stated.
He equally told Mr. Dogara that details of actual spending in 2015 for security and every line item in the state budgets are also publicly available via the annual report of the Kaduna State Accountant-General, which is accessible on www.kdsg.gov.ng. The 2015 accounts of the state, he added, have been audited, while the audit summary was published in major newspapers and on the state website on 21 June 2016.
In addition, said El-Rufai, the Accountant-General's report for 2016 has been finalized and its audit is ongoing and will be published as usual.
"The audited state government accounts can also be found on http://openkaduna.com.ng/Budget/audited. The Kaduna State government will continue to remain transparent and open in all its finances. That is what we have promised to all our people and that is what our party, the APC and our President stand for," said Mr. El-Rufai.
In an apparent bid to reinforce his claim of transparency, Mr. El-Rufai made public his pay slip, which shows he earns a net salary of N470,521.74. See the pay slip below:

Update! Obasanjo's wife files lawsuit to stop her son's wedding has been dismissed by the court

One of the wives of former President Obasanjo, Taiwo Obasanjo, filed a lawsuit at an Ikeja High Court, seeking to stop her son, Olujonwo Obasanjo, from marrying Tope Adebutu, the daughter of Sir Kessington Adebutu, on
May 11th and 12th

She requested for the wedding to be postponed to a date after June 1st, arguing that she was excluded from all preparations leading to the introduction and proposed wedding.

Justice Lateefa Okunnu today dismissed the suit on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the suit because 33-year-old Olujonwo Obasanjo is an adult.

Zamfara State Started Islamic Sharia Law In Nigeria But Today It Has The Highest Level Of Poverty In The Country

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has said Zamfara State which started the implementation of Sharia law in Nigeria currently has the highest poverty rate in the country.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Emir of Kano
Speaking at the Mo Ibrahim Forum in Marrakesh, Morocco, weekend, Sanusi said many of those who seized religion as tool of getting power were not necessarily better than the rest of the people.

According to him, such people should, however, be given a chance to participate in a democracy, so that they don’t go on pushing a myth that they were not given a chance.

“Give them four years, after sometime people find out that they have not improved education, they have not put food on the table, they’ve not provided healthcare, they vote them out.

“So long as you don’t give them a chance to try and succeed or fail, you have a myth of people being denied an alternative that would make their lives better.

“I think the mistake that many people make is that they simply don’t have the patience to wait four years. We have had it in Nigeria; people came and said they were implementing Sharia. Zamfara State started Sharia in Nigeria; it has the highest rate of poverty in the country today.

“It’s a matter of time for people to realise that this is all deception, this is all politics, this is not religion; it is about politicians appropriating religion as a discourse for getting into power.”

Obasanjo lacks moral right to accuse anyone of corruption –Governor Fayose

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has told former President Olusegun Obasanjo to desist from accusing people of corruption in Nigeria.

Fayose said it was hypocritical of the former president to claim that some church leaders in the country were not only encouraging corruption but also celebrating people with questionable sources of wealth.

Obasanjo made the accusation in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, at the 2017 Convention Lecture of Victory Life Bible Church International while speaking on the theme, “The role of the church in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.”

In a statement issued, on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said that if anyone must accuse the church in Nigeria of promoting corruption, that person should not be Obasanjo, adding that the former president presided over the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria.

“Where did Obasanjo get the stupendous wealth he is parading since he was a pauper before he became president? Where did he get the trillions of naira that he deployed to his failed third term bid?

“How can Obasanjo, under whose tenure, Nigeria witnessed the Halliburton scandal be sermonising about corruption?”

Fayose restated that it was during Obasanjo’s reign as president that governors were made to donate N10m each to the building of his library

“Isn’t compelling state governors to make donations to the personal project of a serving president part of corruption?,” Fayose queried.

Maintaining that Obasanjo was the father of corruption in the present day Nigeria, Fayose asked, “Who introduced the politics of ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags to the National Assembly?

“Who was the president when sacks of money were displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives as bribe money given to some Reps members to impeach the then Speaker, Ghali N’abba?

“Under whose administration was the out-of-court settlement in the controversial $1.09bn Malabu oil block initiated in 2006?”

London Fears are mounting for the safety of a sick nine-year-old girl who went missing after being taken to hospital in need of urgent medical care.

The Metropolitan Police has issued a plea for information after girl vanished from St Mary's hospital in Paddington, London, shortly after arriving to see medics on Sunday evening.

Scotland Yard said the girl attended the hospital accompanied by her parents and a younger brother at around 5.40pm after she fell ill.

But the family left two hours later before the girl, who police believe is diabetic, could receive treatment.

Police said the girl had a high blood sugar count, meaning she could fall into a coma if she is not treated.

A police statement said: "The girl was initially seen by medical staff and her parents informed them that their child's name was Mashael Aldosari.

"Detectives are unsure if this is the child's real name as the family provided a false address to staff.

"Police know very little about the family as the adults did not provide their names to staff at the hospital. All four left the hospital at 7.44pm.

"At this early stage detectives believe that the family could be from Kuwait.

"The family are believed to have told medical staff that they had travelled to the UK in order for their son to receive hospital treatment. Inquiries have established that this is may not be the case.

"It is not known when the family entered the country and inquires continue with other agencies.

"Given the circumstances, detectives are urgently seeking the trace the young girl in order for her to receive medical treatment."

Mashael is described as being less than 5ft and has long, straight black hair. She was last seen wearing a grey top, leggings and light coloured shoes.

The man is described as having a heavy build and has short black hair receding at the front.
The woman was wearing a black burka.

The wedding ceremony between one Miss Taiwo Orimoloye and Abiodun Isaac was stalled on Saturday in Ondo town, Ondo State, as the bride, Taiwo, allegedly failed to show up for the church service.
Although the reason for the action of the bride was unknown as of press time, it was gathered that the development caused confusion in the two families as efforts to know the whereabouts of the bride were unsuccessful.

An 11-year-old boy killed himself after his girlfriend faked her death. She’s now facing charges.

Family photo of Tysen Benz.© Katrina Gross via AP Family photo of Tysen Benz.

Tysen Benz was in his room when he read text messages saying someone he knew had committed suicide.

Shortly after, the 11-year-old boy from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula hanged himself.

Now, a 13-year-old girl is facing criminal charges in connection to his death. Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wiese said the girl posed as someone else when she was texting with Tysen and faked her own death. And the boy, for reasons still unclear, believed it and killed himself within two hours of receiving the messages, Wiese said.

Wiese said he could not confirm the relationship between Tysen and the girl, but media reports say she was his girlfriend.

“The impact that it had on the boy — there’s a logical connection,” Wiese told The Washington Post. “He did this within hours of the conversation happening via text.”

The girl, whose name was not released, has been charged with malicious use of telecommunication service, punishable by up to six months in juvenile detention; and using a computer to commit a crime, which carries up to a year in punishment. Both are misdemeanor charges.

The incident happened on March 14. Nothing seemed amiss when he came home from school earlier that day, said the boy’s mother, Katrina Goss, of Marquette, Mich. He seemed happy and was proud that he had gone to his tutoring session without being reminded, Goss told The Washington Post. She baked him some treats as a reward. After dinner, Tysen went up to his room.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Goss went to each of her three sons’ rooms to tuck them in. Tysen’s door was locked, but she was able to open it with her key. At first, she thought her middle son was hiding or playing a trick because he wasn’t in his bed.

“I went in and I thought he was being silly,” Goss told The Post. “I ended up finding him in the closet . … I tried to hurry up and lift him up. I was screaming. I told my oldest son to call 911. My littlest one was bawling.”

Goss said the paramedics were able to revive Tysen. The boy was hospitalized for three weeks before he died on Tuesday at a Detroit-area hospital.

Goss said her son often used Snapchat. The night he died, she said he was texting and talking on Snapchat with the 13-year-old girl, who was using someone else’s account when she told Tysen that his girlfriend had died. No one warned her son that it was all a prank, Goss said.

“She used her friend’s account to make it even more proof that she’d died,” Goss said. “He was so innocent, so kindhearted and so naive that he completely believed her and he took his own life.”
Wiese, the prosecutor, said there was some reference to Snapchat in the text exchange, but it’s unclear what was said on the social media app because investigators have been unable to obtain those messages.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Goss described her son’s death as the result of “a twisted, sick joke” delivered in the form of cyberbullying on social media. She said she wants to raise awareness about how social media platforms influence children’s actions.

“I want him to basically be the face of the cause. It’s a serious issue that I feel is completely skirted,” Goss said. “The way that children are using social media currently in this day and age is just terrible.”

Goss said her son and the girl were attending the same school. Although the prank happened outside of school, she said officials have failed to do enough to protect her son.

The Post was unable to reach the girl or her family, and it was not immediately clear if she has a lawyer.

In a statement released Thursday, Marquette Area Public Schools Superintendent William Saunders said school officials agree with Goss’s statements about the dangers of social media, but their knowledge of the incident is limited because it happened outside of school.

“The loss of Tysen has been felt by all of his teachers, classmates and well beyond our school walls, by our entire community. The loss of a student and classmate is the most difficult thing a school is ever asked to deal with, but pales in comparison to what the family must be going through,” Saunders said.

“After the gut wrenching loss of a student we ask ourselves, ‘How can we do more?'” he added. “To that answer we look forward to partnering with parents and the community to double our efforts in educating all.”

Wiese said he would describe Tysen’s death as more of the result of a hoax, though he said he would not disagree with Goss’s assessment that it’s a form of cyberbullying.

In 2011, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) signed a bill requiring schools to have anti-bullying policies in place. The bill, called “Matt’s Safe School Law,” was named after a 14-year-old who killed himself in 2002 after he was assaulted at school.

About 1 in 5 students during the 2012-13 school year reported being bullied either through insults, rumors or physical harm, according to a 2015 report by the U.S. Department of Education. Cyberbullying was less frequent and affected about 1 in 14 students.

According to a 2016 study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the number of suicides among adolescents have increased dramatically in recent decades. The study found that being a victim of bullying has a “clear relationship” with committing or thinking of committing suicide.

Furthermore, the study also found that excessive Internet use was “strongly associated with higher levels of depression” and thoughts or attempts to commit suicide.

Goss said her son, an athlete who played hockey, travel soccer and golf, did not have any underlying issues that would’ve hinted that he’d hurt himself.
“He was perfectly happy and fine. There was no additional sadness that was occurring. He had tons of friends,” she said. “Anybody who knows him knows he’s a shining star."

Ishaya Bamaiyi was arrested over his criminal acts — Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday debunked the allegation that he planned to kill former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (retd.) Obasanjo said this while hosting members of Ogun state Correspondents at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta. Read more after cut....
The former President said, he had no reason to plot to kill Bamaiyi, adding that, the former Chief of Army Staff was arrested by law enforcement agencies in the country over his criminal acts. Bamaiyi has accused Obasanjo in his book, “Vindication of A General” which was unveiled penultimate weekend in Abuja that he was plotting to kill him to prevent him from toppling his administration during his 1999 tenure. Bamaiyi in his book said: “Upon handing over power to Gen. Obasanjo in May 1999, Gen. Abubakar told the new civilian President that he must rein in General Bamaiyi, else he would overthrow the new government and that from that moment, General Aliyu Gusau, the then National Security Adviser and President Obasanjo made it a duty to imprison me by all means. “When Obasanjo took over, some PDP big shots decided that based on the report, I had control of the Army and should be arrested.

The government looked for avenues to arrest me. “They started by checking Army accounts to see if I had stolen money”. Reacting to the allegation, Obasanjo who was visibly angry when he was asked to react, said; “That I wanted to kill him? What of the people he killed? My government did not plot to kill him. My government asked him to answer to those that were alleged to have been killed by him and that is legitimate.

“That if there is an allegation that you have done something, that you have committed a crime, then you are arrested, you should answer. And that’s all. Pure and simple. Who the hell is he that I would want to kill him? Kill him for what? To achieve what? No! There were allegations, the police and the law enforcement agencies decided to look into the allegations.

They invited him and they asked him to answer as a result of what was found, so they charged him to court. So, it’s now up to him and the investigators, the prosecutors and the judiciary. That’s all”. Speaking on corruption, Obasanjo said investigation must be proper, thorough and undertaken with all seriousness. Obasanjo said: “I was reading today when the President (Muhammadu Buhari) said the EFCC should stop losing cases.

They lose cases for a number of reasons. “One, they engage more of outside lawyers. I believe that they need staunch, `ogbologbo’(seasoned) lawyers inside that will do the work. “If I am a lawyer and I want the opponent to win a case, what I will file will be `wishy washy’. “And if I file a `wishy washy’ case, the opponent will see the loophole and he will get out of it. I believe that is important. “Secondly, thorough investigation is very important. Now, investigation must be thorough, it must be proper and it must be really taken seriously. “Third, our judges must be committed in fighting corruption.

“They must be committed to fighting corruption. Because if the investigation is very sound and you have `ogbologbo’ lawyer to handle the case, if you have Salamigate, you know what the answer will be. “So it is a chain: investigation, prosecution and the judiciary. If there is weakness along this line, chances are that corruption cases will continue to be lost,“ he said.

Update! Nigerian man arrested with drugs at Lagos airport from Indonesia says he did it for money for his wedding ceremony

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, arrested a 33-year-old Nigerian man travelling to Indonesia with 1.205kg of drugs narcotics found to be methamphetamine.

The suspect, Umeme Lotachukwu Fabian from Anambra State was arrested while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Indonesia with a Cote d’lvoire International passport bearing the name Grou Bi Clauvis.
Umeme, who also had an identity card claiming to be an Ivorian, while under observation at the airport, excreted eighty-nine (89) wraps of the methamphetamine.

The NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, Ahmadu Garba, said that preliminary investigation conducted by the agency revealed that the suspect hails from Anambra State with the name Umeme Lotachukwu
Umeme, who attended Boys Secondary School, Onitsha where he graduated in 2007, after his secondary education, started selling clothes at Onitsha main market before he travelled to India in search of greener pastures in 2013 and returned to the country in 2015.

In his statement, the suspect said that he was offered the sum of five thousand dollars to smuggle drugs to Indonesia.

"I am the only son of my parents. I wanted to invest the money in my clothes business and also commence preparation for my marriage in a bid to settle down in life. They offered me the sum of five thousand naira to smuggle the drugs to Indonesia."

He also stated that he was not aware that drug trafficking attracts capital punishment in Indonesia.

The NDLEA chairman/chief executive, Colonel Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.), while expressing satisfaction with the arrest, promised to investigate the identity falsification by the suspect.

"This is a very dangerous development, as the suspect could have been consigned to the gallows under a false identity," Abdallah said, warning that those contemplating drug trafficking must endeavor to avoid acts of criminality.

The suspect will be charged to court on completion of investigation.
