Niger PDP guber candidate re-arraigned for ‘fraud’ on election eve

Niger PDP guber candidate re-arraigned for ‘fraud’ on election eve
Umar Nasko, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Niger state, has been re-arraigned over alleged fraud.
He was re-arraigned alongside Babangida Aliyu, former governor, and Tanko Beji, state chairman of the PDP on Wednesday.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged them with alleged diversion of N2 billion.
The anti-graft agency had arraigned them over the charge in April 2017 before Mohammed Mayaki, a judge of the state high court.
Proceedings in the case was stayed after lawyers of the defendants argued that the same case was before a federal high court.
However, the case has been re-opened at a high court in Minna.
The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
After they took their plea, Ayodele Olajide, counsel to the former governor, applied for bail on behalf of his client.
Olajide argued that since the case is not new, the defendants should be allowed to enjoy their bail since they have not violated conditions given to them.
The judge granted the application. He asked that the defendants deposit their international passports with the court.
The matter was adjourned till till February 21.

INEC speaks on postponement of Saturday’s presidential, national assembly elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports that the body was planning to postpone Saturday’s elections.

Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold in few hours.
National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, Mr. Festus Okoye, told DAILY POST Friday night that Nigerians should ignore the rumours.
His words: “If stories are flying about, allow the stories to fly. What they are reporting is not true.”
Asked to respond to information that INEC commissioners were in a meeting, Okoye said: “Yes we are in a meeting but we have not taken such decision.
“This is election period and as commissioners, we meet every time”.
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said his camp had foiled a plan to rig the polls in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, the recent development of INEC offices being set ablaze in Abia, Anambra, and Plateau states by ‘mysterious fire’, where thousands of electoral materials were burnt, could be major threat to the election.
Also, earlier on Friday, the commission in Niger State announced that elections for the senatorial positions of Niger East and Niger North may not hold on Saturday as the ballot papers meant for the zone were missing.

Drama as woman strips naked after losing $200 to crooks

A woman has stripped naked in anger after losing $200 to crooks in a local game.
Bmetro reports that she stripped naked near the famous Kudzanayi bus terminus along Third Street in Zimbabwe.
After stripping, she went into a rant demanding her money back from the ‘feja feja’ crooks. She made quite a spectacle as a crowd amassed to witness her breakdown.
Netsai Dube, a vendor at Kudzanayi bus terminus who witnessed the incident said she suspected the woman could be mentally challenged.
“I personally think that she is mentally challenged because no sane person will strip naked in front of people no matter the situation. If it was the issue of money, she could have reported to the police,” she said.
Some women assisted her to dress up while some shielded away men who had flocked to the scene to see the naked woman.
After dressing up, the lady asked for transport money from the crowd, to go to Arizona Village on the outskirts of Gweru, saying she no longer had money after the ‘feja feja’ saga.
