ASUU Lingering Strike : Incompetent & Selfish Nigerian Leaders And Silly Youth

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike has become a perennial problem. This strike problem by public university lecturers is older than majority of the undergraduate and post-graduate students except for a very few people.

And most time they always embark on indefinite strike. The problem dated back some decades with no permanent solution in sight. As usually, lot of counter and counter accusations are going between ASUU reps and federal government reps without any agreement as none of them is ready to shift ground about the negotiations.

It has become a national issue and embarrassment like electricity and other bedevilling problems holding the country back. Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, the current ASUU National President may have also experienced the strike as a student if he studied in Nigeria.

Apart from general strike by all public universities, some of these universities still have their internal and local issues that do resulted into strike often. Among the issues raised by ASUU are salaries and wages structuring and other conditions of service in the university system including funding, university autonomy and other pending matters.

From historical perspective, the federal government and governments at other levels have no interest in resolving issues that affect commoners because of superlative alternatives that are available to them and their families members in advanced countries. The interest of the country, parents and Nigerian students is of no important to them as all their children and spouses are all schooling in US, UK and other part of the world. The same thing can be said of their medical needs. In addition, these politicians have looted the country dry to sponsor their family members abroad.

The issue of private universities is another reason crippling public universities because some of the decision makers and policy molders for the country at every ministries and departments of governments are stakeholders and owners of these private institutions, so their lackadaisical attitude towards public institutions is very glaring. Their top priority is how to grow their business funded with public and looted monies at the expense of national interest. No more honesty and loyalty anywhere.

No more integrity any where among politicians and top governments workers in the country. Across the land we have greedy and selfish people and dishonest generations that are waiting for their time to steal and loot. Our orientation and psyche have been polluted.

A country where you have private universities owned by Obasanjo ( The Bell ) and Atiku (American University of Nigeria) funded with stolen and looted funds, you must not expect slow improvement in the country in all sectors talk less of rapid development. At this, their kids still go abroad for training. So, what is their own business with ASUU lingering crisis in public universities. None except to continuing to live large with their family at the expense of tax payers and poor students.

What happened to public primary and secondary schools in that country is gradually becoming the fate of public universities and other tertiary institutions. Majority of primary and secondary schools are no longer habitable and decent for learning with thousands of mushroom and unsuitable private ones scattered all over the country. Let me remind you too that all Buhari's children also schooled in UK therefore APC and PDP governments are not in any position to give lasting solution to this issue of incessant strike by public owned universities lecturers .

Nigerians, a situation where 90 percent of those in position of authority have their children in oversea schools, expect the worst service from them in all areas of social services and infrastructure. But the bigger problem is that the senseless students that are off schools due to strike because of insensitive of these bastard politicians and leaders will become their readily available tools of campaign for 2019 to make their own selfish interest.

Instead of students to mobilize and campaign for someone new that will address ASUU  and public universities funding problem once and for all, but no they will still voluntarily with or without inducement queue behind Buhari or Atiku in 2019 because they are brainless and 'factory fitted' senseless people. Even some of the so-called ASUU members will still mobilize for Buhari and Atiku for selfish reason against national interest.
In fact some of these out of school students due to strike are already fighting on-line championing for Buhari and Atiku.

Majority of Nigerian students and tax payers still want to continue with the same group of people and hoping for a positive change in that country. That is not POSSIBLE.
These are TESTED AND FAILED group of people.

Silly youth !! Wake up !!

Nigeria is a country where many negate group agenda once they have opportunity to serve for personal agenda. Dr Iyorchia Ayu was a former ASUU president ( Unijos chapter ) before becoming a senator and a minister in some ministries including education ministry despite his efforts during ASUU days , I did not see where he openly championed ASUU agenda after becoming a Senator and later a minister.

The structures and facilities in some of these public universities about twenty years ago was an eye sore, you can imagine what will be presently on ground.  Sorry ! Sorry !! I sorry for Nigeria !!

Greatest sensible Nigerian students and silly youths now is time to take your destiny in your hands and take a political position against year 2019 presidential elections outside APC and PDP.  Both candidates from these parties are FAILURES going by their antecedents. Everything about your studies and probably some part of your future revolves around 2019 politics and beyond if you are attending public schools.

There are more than other fifty presidential candidates that you can scrutinize as group of students by picking one that will have a genuine interest and credible programme for education  and providing the candidate a bloc votes from students' university community. Every successive governments have failed to accept 100 percent of ASUU demands and even reneged on all negotiated agreements.

A vote for Buhari and Atiku will lead the country into another four years of educational abysmal.
It is not necessary to become a politician but you can not separate politics or political decisions by Nigerian government from many of your daily activities.

House of Reps approves June 12 as Democracy Day

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria and abrogated May 29.
Previously, May 29 is always observed as Democracy Day since 1999.
But President Muhammadu Buhari, last year declared that June 12 would now be marked as Democracy Day and a day to handover power.
However, the House of Reps’ approval followed the adoption of a report on a bill seeking to amend the Public Holidays Act 2004.
The lawmakers approved the amendments to three clauses ‎in the Act, as recommended in the report.
One of the clauses deleted May 29 as Democracy Day and replaced the date with June 12.
The amendment has put an end to age-long dispute that June 12 should be made Democracy Day.
Late Moshood Kashimao Olawale (MKO) Abiola won the freest election conducted in Nigeria’s history on June 12, 1993 and the election was annulled by the military junta of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB.

For decades, activists and human rights bodies have been protesting and canvassing the recognition of Abiola by making June 12 Democracy Day instead of the May 29 instituted by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Malnutrition: UNICEF reaches over 1m children in Yobe, Borno

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says no fewer than 1,239,802 children has been given Vitamin ‘A’ supplementation in Yobe and Borno through the support of the Department of International Development (DFID).
Dr Martin Jackson, UNICEF Nutrition Officer in Bauchi State, made this known on Thursday at a media dialogue while presenting a paper on DFID support for child malnutrition in the North-East in Yola.
It was organised by UNICEF in collaboration with the Child Rights Information Bureau (CRIB) of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.
The theme of the event is: “Investing in Malnutrition for the Future.’’
Jackson said that UNICEF was able to attain these feats through the UKaid funded Integrated Basic Nutrition Response to the humanitarian crisis in Yobe and Borno project (INP+) which commenced in July 2017 till date.
She said that 38,000 Severe Acute Malnutrition children (SAM) were admitted at the various Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) centres or facilities across the states.
He added that about 95 per cent of the numbers admitted from three local government areas in Yobe and nine from Borno respectively were cured.
“The Basic Nutrition Response to the humanitarian crisis in Yobe and Borno presentation is to highlight the achievements made by UNICEF through the DFID and Action against Hunger.
“As well as World Food Programme through the multi-sectoral pilot programme,” he said.
The benefitting local governments in Yobe include Tarmua, Gujba and Nangere, while that of Borno are: Maiduguri Municipal Council, Jere, Konduga, Bayo, Biu, Kwaya Kusa, Shani, Askira Uba and Hawul.
He said further that 195,000 pregnant women were given Iron fob late to prevent them from anaemia being the scourge.
Jackson said 32,000 mothers were given N5,000 each on monthly basis as an incentive for exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding.
He explained that the purpose of the incentive was to encourage the mothers to effectively adhere to the practice to reduce the burden of the nutrition crisis in the zones.
Jackson explained further that the interventions were geared toward improving nutritional security of under-five children, pregnant and lactating women, as well as promoting nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life.
He added that the programme was to ensure improved nutritional status of children under the ages of five, pregnant and lactating mothers through prevention, detection and treatment of undernutrition.

Nigeria third most terrorised country — fourth year running

Nigeria is still the third most terrorised country in the world, according to the 2018 Global Terrorism Index.
The report, released on Wednesday, blamed the spate of terrorism in Nigeria and the “increase in violence involving Fulani extremists even as deaths committed by Boko Haram are falling”.
Nigeria is ranked only below Iraq and Afghanistan, both in first and second positions respectively.
In 2018 alone, hundreds of Nigerians have been killed in attacks by suspected herdsmen as well as clashes between the herders and farmers/communities.
States worst hit in the attacks are Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and Taraba, among others.
The report, however, noted that when compared to the peak of “terrorist deaths” in 2014, “the largest falls in the number of deaths occurred in Iraq, Nigeria, and Pakistan, with falls of 6,466, 5,950, and 912 deaths respectively”.
“Boko Haram, once the world’s deadliest terror group, has experienced a significant decline since its peak in 2014. However, the group remains the most active terrorist organisation in Nigeria and until 2017 was the deadliest terror group in sub-Saharan Africa,” the report said.
“Nigeria’s counterterrorism response in combatting Boko Haram has been interrupted by the emergence of other extremist groups, most notably the Fulani herder extremists.
“The Fulani herder extremists have attacked civilians and military forces in the country. However, the sizeable drop in deaths and terror incidents since 2014 indicate the success of Nigeria’s Civilian Join Task Force and international coalitions.
“Alongside its counterinsurgency plan, the Nigerian government also struggles with negotiations and reintegration efforts regarding its long-term strategy to deal with Boko Haram and its associates.”
HEADWAY IN SIGHT?
President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly blamed the herdsmen-related killings on climate change.
He also says some militants infiltrated herders, after entering the country through Libya.
While the clashes between the herders and farmers have been blamed on open grazing, some Nigerians have proposed ranching as a way out.

Video, Photos: Lecturer disguises as Spider-man to teach during ASUU strike

In an attempt to do what he loves doing; teaching, a lecturer of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli, Anambra state, disguised as Spiderman to teach his students during the ongoing ASUU Strike.
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) forbids lecturers from lecturing during strike.
It was said that the lecturer ignored the students when they called his name and pretended to be Spiderman, not the lecturer they know.
It was also gathered that he had earlier told his students that they should await the coming of Spiderman to assist them in their final preparations.
And true to his words, on December 5, 2018, the lecturer stormed the class of his masters students who wanted to have a final discussion with him ahead of their project defence.

Unuigbe said that one Athony Lawani lodged a complaint to the police that the body of his sister, 51-year-old Mary Ehinlaiye, which was deposited at the morgue was missing.
“My Lord, the complainant had gone to the mortuary to collect his sister’s body for burial but the attendants could not present the body to him.

Toyin Abraham replies ex-husband, Adeniyi Johnson over divorce papers

Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, has finally responded to allegations by her ex-husband, Adeniyi (Niyi) Johnson, of her refusal to sign divorce papers.

Adeniyi had on Wednesday shared a post on social media, accusing Toyin of refusal to sign the divorce papers.

He wrote: “We were to sign divorce papers on November 1st, you didn’t come. The case was postponed to January 10th, only for your manager, Sam, to call me that you want to discontinue the case in Shagamu and restart in Ibadan. Madam why?

“Till date, I did no interview, except the one on Rubbin Minds, and yet tolerated all the names you called me. Why not let me go after three years? Why are you shifting the case, so we start all over again?
“No letter from the court about the discontinuation of the case, even your lawyer isn’t aware you are taking such a step. Na manager dey call us.

“I admit to all the names and accusations. Toyin, can you please let me go? The delay tactic is tiring. I see my quietness being taken for granted and is making people assume, I’m the bad egg.”
In response, Toyin took to her Instagram page to warn her ex-husband against sharing details of their divorce process on social media.
She wrote: “Dear Niyi Johnson, I’m forced to respond to you here because you mentioned my name, so I will be returning the favour. In all my years of dealing with the entertainment industry, I carefully avoid the drama that goes with the terrain. And this includes years of dealing with big brands.
” Some of these brands have warned me to avoid some people from the Yoruba industry because of the attendant, unnecessary drama and here you are proving them right and giving the noble Yoruba industry bad name. You have my number, you have the number of the lawyer, and I believe you have Toyin’s number as well.
“This unnecessary call for attention and social media shenanigans are unnecessary. You see why people don’t dignify your ilk with phone calls, SMS or courtesy, it always ends on social media.
“People are doing great things in real life, not Instagram drama. Two, a simple call to your lawyer would tell you that what Lawyer Bosun called you for is the beginning of trial (court proceedings) not to come and sign divorce papers. Divorce doesn’t work like that.
“Three, if you desperately want a divorce, you should have filed one not Toyin; perhaps the over 1m naira cost deterred you. Toyin chose to bear the cost, pay her lawyer the fee and has taken the case to a considerable point. She has shown more commitment to the divorce proceedings than you.
“In more than three years of separation, you just filed a “cross petition” last month while she has been at it in the court for over a year. She has “allowed you go” a long time and we all can see what that has done to her life and career.
“Please come down from your Instagram high horse, real court issues happen outside of social media. She changed lawyer and he has moved faster than we anticipated. It was out of courtesy that I called you to ask for your address.
” I told you I’d call for if there is any new development. And a piece of advice from me, you need to stop using your past relationship to generate talkability, you have talents and a new relationship, they should be enough. That is what you should focus on; stop focusing on what you don’t have, what you have should be enough.”
Abraham and Johnson got married on Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Ikoyi Registry, Lagos. The actress “filed for divorce on the grounds of infidelity in August 2015,” Johnson had written on his Instagram stories.

70 percent of births not registered in Nigeria – NPC

The National Population Commission (NPC) has raised an alarm that about 70 per cent of births are not registered in the country.

The NPC also said it was constrained by inadequate staff and paucity of funds as factors hindering birth registration.
This was disclosed by Musa Rashid, Bauchi State NPC Director, during a one-day Media Engagement and Sensitization for Promoting Awareness of Birth Registration Relevance in Communities, for journalists; organised by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF, in Bauchi.
Rashid said, “The National Population Commission does not have the adequate manpower to take birth registration to the doorstep of every child; affects both capacity and logistics.
“NPC also does not have sufficient financial power to take birth registration to every child.”
He however said there are sectors which by virtue of their mandate can reach children with birth registration, for example the traditional sector.
The Director also said it was expedient for the commission to collaborate with Non Governmental Organisations like UNICEF and the media to ensure that the message gets to its desired recipients (the citizenry) the people at the rural areas.
He maintained that the keeping of births and death records were well documented during the era of Native Authority, but however said that because of the aforementioned challenges, there is the need for the collaboration.
Rashid also stated that birth certificate is obtained free, and no charge should be paid.
Presenting a paper titled: ‘Understanding Relevance of Birth Registration and the Reasons for Intersectoral collaboration in BR and in Specific Terms, the Role of the Media in Continuous Awareness Creation’ a UNICEF facilitator, Victor Sule said, “Birth Registration is the only means to provide a child with a national identity, as an unregistered child does not exist legally.
“A birth certificate is evidence of a child’s existence and is essential to ensure child access to all other rights.”
He called on the media to help in the enlightenment of the citizenry about birth registration.
Participants were drawn from Plateau, Gombe and Bauchi states.
