The young man allegedly murdered his step-father in the early hours of Saturday on his farm land in the community following unresolved differences.
DAILY POST gathered that the victim went to his farm land in Akpafa bush camp in Oviri Olomu community when the suspect later followed him and when got to the farm, quarrel ensued that allegedly resulted in the suspect slapping him and later pulled a gun and shoot him in the stomach, leaving him dead in a pool of blood.

Tension as Kaduna-bound flight develops fault before take-off

Tension as Kaduna-bound flight develops fault before take-off
Passengers on an Arik Air flight from Lagos to Kaduna panicked on  Saturday afternoon as the aircraft developed technical problems when it was about taking off.
The Boeing 707 flight was meant to convey passengers to Kaduna and Jos when the incident happened at 3:15pm.
The passengers accused the airline of inefficiency and not checking the plane before allowing passengers board it.
They, however, thanked God that the technical problem occurred before take-off.
The plane had cruised on the runway of the Murtala Muhammed airport, Lagos, for at least 20 minutes before the pilot announced the glitch.
“I am sorry the plane has technical problems that need to be rectified,” he announced as he turned back to the tarmac.
The passengers were asked to disembark and return to the departure hall and wait for further directives.
About an hour later, another plane was assigned to Kaduna passengers, while those of Jos stayed behind.

HABA BABA IYABO !!! 2019: I have no preferred presidential candidate – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that he has no preferred candidate in the forthcoming general elections.

Obasanjo said he would not tell Nigerians to vote or not to vote for any particular candidate, but should vote wisely.

Obasanjo, who some people believed had decided to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he needed Nigerians to vote for a credible candidate.
He made the remarks at the 27th annual Owu National Convention, held in Iwo, Osun on Saturday.
The former President, however, urged Nigerians to vote for credible candidates, who can liberate the country.
In his remark, Chairman, Supreme Council of Owu Obas, Oba Hammed Oyelude, said Owu, being the largest Yoruba speaking ethnic group in the South West, has been contributing to the development of Nigeria.
Hammed, who is the Olowu of Owu Kuta, said Royal Union of Owu People (ROUP) is not a political party, but must contribute to the policy direction of the country.
He called on Owu people to participate in politics, in order to have a say in the running of the affairs of the country and be able to contribute their quota.
Oyelude also called on sons and daughters of Owu to support and vote for any Owu indigene contesting for any political office.

Oil marketers to get N236bn subsidy claims on Dec.14

The Federal government said on Saturday that oil marketers would be paid N236 billion out of N348 billion approved by the National Assembly as outstanding subsidy claims on Friday Dec. 14th.
The Chief Operating officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Downstream Mr Henry Ikem-Obih disclosed this to newsmen, in Abuja.
“The Debt Management Office (DMO) will by next week precisely on Dec. 14th pay oil marketers first part of the subsidy arrears of N236 billion as agreed by both parties.
“We agreed that after the first tranche is paid, the marketers will form committee to work on details of how the next tranche will be paid in 2019 and the last paid in 2020.
“Government is fully committed to pay the first tranche as promised and will be paid through promissory note that will issued by the DMO,’’ he said.
Ikem-Obih said that oil marketers equally owed government some debt which would not be deducted from the first tranche of payment.
He said that it was unfortunate that Depot and Petroleum Product Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) had issues a counter statement from what was agreed at the meeting held with all stakeholders on Thursday.
It will be recalled that stakeholders in the oil sector held a meeting at the ministry of Finance on Thursday, Dec. 6th and reached an agreement on how to pay outstanding subsidy claims to marketers.
DAPPMAN on Friday issued a counter statement saying that there was no agreement reached with government because it failed to reach legitimate demands of the association which was that the claims should be paid in cash instead of through the promissory notes.
He said that Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN), DAPPMAN, Major Oil Marketers of Nigeria (MOMAN) CBN, PPPRA, among others were part of the meeting.
“Government is committed to doing what we agreed on and that is why they get the first tranche by next week.
“We have told marketers that what government is doing now is honest and highly transparent,’’ he added.
Ikem-Obih urged Nigerians not to panic as the NNPC and all other stakeholders will ensure that there was no scarcity of the product throughout the yuletide season.
“Currently, we have 55 days of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) storage in the Country which translates to 2.8 million litres in volume and 90,000 metric tonnes of Diesel.
“The 90,000 metric tonnes is supplied by NNPC and it’s subsidiary PPMC and we will continue to import,’’ he added
He said that apart from imported products, that the Warri refinery had on Thursday started refining products and the Port Harcourt refinery would soon kick off refining.
This, he said would continue to boost the quantity of product in the country.
In an interview, some marketers who spoke commended government and assured that they would support efforts that would ensure smooth supply and distribution of petroleum products in the country.
Alhaji Aliyu Sa’id Managing Director AA Rano filling station said that national interest must be upheld and it would be wise for DAPMAN to give government a chance.
“We have enough products and we will not shut down for any reason, we do not want Nigerians to suffer during this period and that is why we are supporting government effort,’’ he said.
Also, Managing Director of AYM Shafa filling station, said that they would work to ensure that there was not scarcity in the country during the yuletide season.
“We will support government efforts to ensure smooth supply and distribution of products especially during the Christmas season,’’ he added.
Other marketers who promised ensure free flow of the product in the country include Obat oil PLC, ED Tonimas Nigeria Limited, among others.

PL News: Pogba can be fantastic - Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has backed Paul Pogba to show "everybody how good he is" when Manchester United face Valencia in the Champions League.
Pogba was an unused substitute in the 4-1 win over Fulham on Saturday, the second successive match he has started on the bench for United.
The midfielder will return to the starting line-up for Wednesday's trip to the Mestalla and Mourinho has backed the France international to impress, as United look to overtake Juventus into top spot in Group H.
"He has to play with the same mentality as the team is playing," said Mourinho, when asked what Pogba needed to do to get back in the team on a permanent basis."
Paul can be a fantastic player, he has the potential to be a fantastic player.
"Against Valencia, he is going to start and have a fantastic football game to play and to show everybody how good he is."
Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic started in central midfield for the win over Fulham and Mourinho believes the pair have improved their performances in recent weeks.
"You have teams that are positionally good, ready to press, and with a desire to press, and I think these two boys - Matic and Herrera - have a really strong mentality," Mourinho said.
"The way they play football is to play at the top of their level and then the people in front of them were also good."

Chelsea end City’s unbeaten Premier League run

Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-0 at Stanford Bridge to end the champion’s unbeaten in the Premier League this season.
City dominated possession but Chelsea did the scoring.
N’Golo Kante scored Chelsea’s first goal on 44 minutes. Chelsea score with their first shot on target!
The move started with a brilliant diagonal pass from David Luiz over to the right and it eventually came to Eden Hazard on the left side of the box.
The Belgian held the ball up, teased the defender then slipped it into the middle for N’Golo Kante, who had made a run into the area.
The Chelsea midfielder coolly thumped it into the back of the net.
On 77 minutes, Chelsea scored a second goal to end City’s unbeaten run. David Luiz was the hero.

Chelsea scored from their first shot of the game and now their first corner of the game. David Luiz rose high and beats Ilkay Gundogan to the ball at the near post to head it into the far corner.

Johannesburg, Durban other cities run out of cemetery space

In the middle of the vast Avalon cemetery in Johannesburg’s Soweto township, two gravediggers shovelled soil out of an old grave containing remains buried years ago.
They were preparing the grave to be reused as towns across South Africa are fast running out of space to bury the dead.
Population growth, migration to urban areas and an influx of foreigners have put huge pressure on land in urban areas. Adding to the problem is a cultural resistance to the practice of cremation.
Between 45 and 60 graves are re-opened each week on average to allow for second burials in Johannesburg, the country’s largest city and economic hub.
Authorities warn that if no action is taken to change how the dead are laid to rest, urban areas will run out of room in as little as 50 years.
“Burial space is fast diminishing. This is caused by the fact that Joburg is currently experiencing high migration,” said Reggie Moloi, the city’s cemeteries and crematoria manager.
Johannesburg is not the only city in South Africa battling the shortage.
The southeastern coastal city of Durban raised the alarm more than a decade ago.
The city had an unusually high death rate in the 1980s, having been particularly hard hit by political violence and HIV/AIDS, say officials.
“We noticed that cemeteries then filled up in a shortest period of time and that quite soon … (we were) going to run out of burial space,” Thembinkosi Ngcobo, the head of parks in eThekwini, which includes Durban, told AFP.
People seeking burial space could soon be turned away, he warned. “We are facing a very serious problem.”
“The situation is dire and not readily understood… because to the eye it seems there is sufficient (space),” said Denis Ing, deputy chairman of the South African Cemeteries Association.
The public did not grasp the scale of the problem, he said.
The crisis has pushed officials to think creatively about how best to dispose of the dead.
While recycling graves has helped ease the situation, cremation still faces significant resistance from African communities, which see it as unnatural and against tradition.
At Roodepoort near Soweto, the Sipamla family buried 87-year-old mother and grandmother Caroline Sipamla in the same grave as her son.
“Graveyards are very full,” said Puleng Sipamla as undertakers covered the remains of her mother. “We thought it would be easier for us to re-open and it’s cheaper than digging a new grave.
Sipamla had made her feelings known on the matter, said her granddaughter Zoleka Sipamla, 23. “She was pretty clear — no cremation.”
Reverend Harold Ginya of the Church of the Nazarene encourages his worshippers to reuse graves — but discourages cremation.
“We are promoting this kind of thing. No one will complain that you are on top of me,” he said.
While many older people are opposed to cremation, the younger generation may prove more open.

“It would be helpful if people understood why people need to be cremated — because there is a problem of land,” said Zoleka Sipamla, a law student.
But the limited appeal of the crematorium has a lot to do with what some people associate with it: the fires of hell.
“They say,’Why would I send my loved one to hell?’” said Moloi.
Others opposed to cremation believe a bodily form is required to reach the afterlife — not ashes.
“Cremation is culturally prohibitive for people… bodies matter, human bodies have power and they have value,” said University of New Hampshire anthropologist, Casey Golomski.
Few black Africans are cremated in Durban, with just one a week on average compared to dozens of burials.
During a recent campaign to raise awareness of the crisis, it became clear that some traditionalists in the port city were even sceptical of shared graves, said Ngcobo.
One elderly man told officials he had never shared a bed with his daughter-in-law. “How do you expect me to share a gravesite with her?” he asked. “That is totally unacceptable”.
The increasing land demands of the living could mean that cremation and grave recycling become mandatory, officials warn.
“There is going to come a time when the people of Johannesburg will not have a choice but to go to the crematoria or reuse a grave,” warned Moloi.
“We cannot be having land reserved for cemeteries.”
The situation could be eased by a controversial constitutional amendment proposed by the government, which would allow the forcible transfer of land to redress the inequalities of apartheid and colonialism.
“We believe that expropriation of land without compensation will assist us in addressing these challenges,” the mayor of eThekwini Zandile Gumede said earlier this year.
Until then, desperate times are calling for desperate measures, including the possible boxing and storage of remains older than 30 years in the corner of existing graves.

2019: PDP’s 16 years in power disastrous – Group fires back at Atiku

A group, the People’s Rights Assembly (PRA), has fired back at the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over his claim that the best Nigeria enjoyed was under the PDP government.

PRA was reacting to the claim by Atiku in Ibadan earlier in the week at the South-West zonal presidential rally of the party that Nigeria was blossoming before the APC government came on board in 2015.

Atiku said he headed the best economy team for Nigeria between 1999 and 2003, adding that such prosperity will be returned to Nigeria in 2019.

Simon Achusa and Bolaji Akiloye, President and Secretary General of the group, respectively, in a rejoinder to Atiku’s assertion, described the Turakin Adamwa as a politician who has earned the unenviable reputation of an alarmist and propagandist, infinitely obsessed with power.
The statement claimed that the former Vice President is known throughout Nigeria and worldwide as a politician with an unstable political character and high quotient for baseless leadership discontent.
The group said, “If the PDP governments led Nigerians to prosperity and peace, what motivated Atiku’s betrayal of the same party he co-founded and its governments severally in 2007 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ) and in 2013 under former President Goodluck Jonathan? Atiku speaks and does not listen to himself; he hardly realizes that he often contradicts in the frenzy of campaigns.
“For eight years, Atiku deputized OBJ as President. What legacies did that administration bequeath to Nigerians? None! Atiku as a leader presided over the rape and plundering of Nigeria. As chairman of the National Council on Privatization and Commercialization (NCPC), the former Vice President dubiously sold critical national assets to himself for personal enrichment and to cronies.
“Atiku criminally undervalued these national assets and dashed them out. None is today functioning optimally. They laid off tens of thousands of workers and eventually shut their doors to business. It is the foundation of the pervasive unemployment afflicting Nigeria today. Is that the prosperity the PDP government brought to Nigerians?
“It is under the PDP government he served as Vice President that Boko Haram terrorism was formed in 2002 and nurtured into a monster by 2015. President Muhammadu Buhari inherited a country, where Boko Haram insurgents seized and effectively occupied 24 LGAs in the Northeast region.
“Boko Haram’s threat to national security was potent in virtually parts of the North, including Abuja, the FCT committing atrocities and heinous crimes against humanity. But the insurgents have been decimated and defeated under President Buhari. Only God knows what would have become of Nigeria had PDP continued in power beyond 2015.
“Elsewhere in the South-South region, the PDP government promoted and commercialized militancy. So, many militant sects sprouted and were serviced by the PDP government. Kidnap of foreign oil workers; vandalisation and blowing up of oil installations and facilities became rampant to the extent of severely disrupting Nigeria’s daily crude oil production. It dropped to an all-time low, below one million barrels per day, from 2.2 million barrels when the Buhari Presidency came on board. Is that the peace the PDP governments brought to Nigeria?
“Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka once infamously described the PDP as populated by a nest of killers. Till the party was pushed out of power, it made no attempt to vacate the statement either in action or words. Rather, Nigerians experienced their own brand of peace with more high profile assassinations of prominent Nigerians from Harry Marshall to the former Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.
“That government saved no kobo for Nigeria. Rather, it deflated Nigeria’s foreign reserves which dropped from about $47 billion to almost zero by 2015. They piled up unpaid salaries and pensions of about six months at the federal level and left 27 states indebted to salaries and pensions. The cumulative effect was to plunge Nigeria into economic recession by the end of 2014 before they were ousted by angry Nigerian masses in the 2015 ballot. We do not pray for this sort of prosperity.
“The PDP government had access to so much national wealth, but it could not investment in critical infrastructures to attract investments. The roads, hospitals’, power generation and supply etc were in comatose or a state of disrepair. The PDP claimed spending $16 billion on power generation, but left the seat of power with 2,300 megawatts of national grid by May 2015. What manner of prosperity? President Buhari has pushed it to over 7,000 megawatts in just three years.”

ASUU strike: Parents, Teachers state position

The National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has appealed to the Federal Government and the striking university lecturers to go with open minds to the negotiation table as they meet again on Monday.

The 2nd Deputy National President of NAPTAN, Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Saturday.
NAN reports that the striking lecturers, under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had embarked on a nationwide strike on Nov. 4, to press home their demands.
The lecturers are demanding for the implementation of agreements reached with the Federal Government, including the 2017 Memorandum of Action (MoA).
They are also demanding for an improved welfare package and better funding of the university system among other issues.
The striking lecturers had engaged the Federal Government on series of negotiations but all ended in deadlock.
According to Ogunbanjo, both the Federal Government and ASUU must seek a better way of reaching a common ground when they meet on Monday.
He said this was necessary in order to end the strike in the interest of the students and their parents.
“My appeal now is for both the ASUU and Federal Government to go to the negotiation table with open minds as they meet again on Monday.
“We are all bothered about this constant interruption of our academic calendar which is becoming a recurring decimal.
“We must come together like true patriots and find a lasting solution to this whole issue once and for all, if we are truly concerned about the future of our children and country.
“ASUU should please try and shift grounds concerning some of their demands for now.
“If government comes up with an offer of about three out of five of their demands for instance, they should please try and consider that and go back to the classrooms while they continue to dialogue for the implementation of the remaining others.
“Federal Government on the other hand must also learn to respect agreements, be more responsive and committed in tackling issues that concern education which remains the only driver of all other aspects of the economy,” Ogunbanjo said.

Adoration family alleges assassination attack on Fr. Mbaka

The Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria, on Saturday alleged of an assassination attempt against its director, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

This is coming amidst controversies generated by Mbaka’s message last Sunday, which has attracted wide criticisms, including from the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Signed Chief Aka Emmanuel, President, National Adoration Family, Chief Okolo Godwin, President, Adoration Fathers’ Associations World Wide, Mrs Ann Aligwe,-President, Adoration Mothers’ Association World Wide, Chukwu Agoziem, President, Adoration Youths’ Association World Wide and Barr Ike Maximus Ugwuoke- Media Chief, they said Fr. Mbaka was shot in Enugu, the State capital.
The statement made available to DAILY POST read: “It is with rude shock and utter surprise that we received the report of the attempted assassination plot of the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria last made Thursday evening by some unknown gunmen who fired gun shots at him on his way in Enugu.
“This incident has added to several other assassination plots targeted at Fr Mbaka since after the first plot that was carried out on him on his way from the Bishop’s house where he had gone to answer an impromptu call by his Bishop during the regime of Governor Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu State .
“This assassination plot against Fr Mbaka is coming barely few days after the 2018 Harvest and Bazaar of the Ministry whereat Fr Mbaka had come under massive media attack for asking Peter Obi, the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2019 General election who attended the Bazaar programme, to make public his support or donation for the Church Project of the Ministry.
“Many Supporters of Peter Obi and even clergies have misconstrued this as embarrassing to Peter Obi and to the Catholic Church and this has consequently given rise to the statement issued by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that same Thursday on the issue. The issue had lingered in spite of the apology, which Fr Mbaka in his characteristic humility had tendered at the altar to Peter Obi and anyone who may have been in any way form and kind been offended at the Bazaar event.
“We have refrained from making any official statement on the ongoing media attack against Fr Mbaka over the Baazar incident because he had held us from joining issues with the Church Clergies and hierarchies on the subject, but we cannot continue to keep silent especially now that the issue is taking the dimension of plot to exterminate his life.
“We recall that the last time Fr Mbaka raised alarm over threat to exterminate him was in early 2015 when he faced a similar persecution by some church hierarchy and the PDP Government following his 31st December Prophecy of the imminent defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan led PDP Government by President Mohammadu Buhari at the 2015 General Election.
“Today, with the 2019 general election around the corner, it appears that history is repeating itself. The contemporaneousness of the recent attack of Fr Mbaka by gunmen with the Peter Obi and the CBCN saga leaves us to a safe conclusion that the attack on Fr Mbaka may have either been politically engineered or ecumenically endorsed, and thus we will not hesitate to call on the security agencies in this country to beam their searchlights and leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of this issue.
“Fr Mbaka’s life means so much to us and many poor and voiceless Nigerians for whom he lives and so we cannot be silent on the face of any threat to his life real or perceived. The graphic narration of the sinister assassination plot as recounted by Fr Mbaka himself during the last Friday’s all night Adoration vigil should not be taken lightly and we charge the security agencies in this country to arise to the situation.
“We continue to thank God for His continuous miraculous protection of Fr Mbaka and for His Special Supernatural Security (SSS) of Fr Mbaka and the Adoration Ministry. We are by this medium sending a strong warning to wherever the assassination plot against Fr Mbaka is coming from, be it the politicians or their supporters or the Church that we shall not fold our hands and keep watching. We shall not only expose the source of this threat to the life of Fr Mbaka at the fullness of our investigations but we shall also match same with equal force in self defence.
“While we have the faith that God will fight our cause, we believe even more in the defence of our faith through our good works and actions.”
