Crime : Cleaner docked for stealing N2m wedding rings


A cleaner, Daniel Salako, who allegedly stole four gold wedding rings valued at N2 million was brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday.

Salako, 31, of Second Gate, Ikota Housing Complex, Ajah, Lagos, is standing trial before Mr. B. A. Sonuga on a two-count charge of attempted stealing and stealing.
He was arraigned alongside Abdullah Sule who allegedly bought the rings with knowledge that it was stolen.
Prosecutor police officer, Insp. Ingobo Emby, said Salako committed the alleged offence on July 25 at the home of a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Adegbenga Ademiluyi, at Admiralty Close, Lekki Phase 1, Eti Osa local government area of the state.

He said Salako stole two gold wedding and engagement rings valued at N1.5 million and two other gold rings valued at N500,000.
The defendant then allegedly sold them to Sule.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, were punishable under sections 287(7) and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Sonuga granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned  till August 29. - The Nation
