Oyo pastor impregnates church members, loses 18 years marriage

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Thursday dissolved an 18-year old marriage between one Grace Adekunle and Pastor Adeyemi Adekunle over abandonment, irresponsibility and impregnating church members.
Chief Ademola Odunade, President of the court held that the dissolution became necessary because there was no more love between the two.
In his judgement, he said “In the interest of peaceful coexistence, the union between Grace and Adeyemi has ceased to be.
“Custody of the first four children produced by the union is granted to Adeyemi while Grace is allowed to take the last because of his age.
“The respondent shall pay a monthly allowance of N5,000, in addition to being responsible for his education and other welfare”.
In her petition, the claimant, a school teacher had informed the court that her husband, a pastor, abandoned her and fornicated with his female church followers.
“Firstly, Adeyemi has shown no form of responsibility on any of the five children and me since he became a pastor a number of years ago.
“Adeyemi neither makes provision for their feeding nor sends them to school.
“One message Adeyemi has repeatedly passed to me is that I shouldn’t expect him to send the children to school because he is a poor man of God.
“He also said that I saw him as a pastor before I wilfully married him.
“As a result, none of our children whose ages range between 8 and 16 is currently in school.
“I have spent all I have on the children with little or no success so far.
“Worst still, Adeyemi has been sleeping with the female worshippers in his church and has even impregnated two of them,” she said.
The respondent was however absent in court when he was called to respond to the allegations.
The court’s bailiff informed the arbitrators that he had served several hearing notices on the respondent without any response.

2019 election: Sowore ‘winner’ of ‘The Candidates’ presidential debate – AAC

The African Action Congress (AAC) has declared its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore winner of ‘The Candidates’, a presidential town hall co-production between Daria Media and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

Anchored by Kadaria Ahmed over the past four Wednesdays in January, presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), All Progressives Congress (APC), African Action Congress (AAC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have all featured on the programme.

A statement by Dr. Malcolm Fabiyi, Director-General of the Sowore 2019 Campaign, issued on Thursday, noted that “there was one winner from the series and that was Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress”.
The statement said: “Although Buhari and Atiku have artfully dodged a frontal debate with Sowore, ‘The Candidates’ placed all the candidates on the same platform, with the same interviewer. And for two hours, Nigerians had the opportunity to hear the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the four leading political parties in the country talk about their plans and programmes for Nigeria, as well as answer questions about their past. The town hall series was revealing. Nigerians have now had an opportunity to weigh their candidates for the highest offices in the land.
“Buhari demonstrated a worrying cluelessness about many of the goings on in the country. He frequently had to be prompted by his Vice President, as he failed to hear or comprehend most of the questions asked. Buhari seemed neither mentally present nor interested in Nigeria. The APC has no ideas for how to steer Nigeria away from the crippling problems of insecurity, power sector failures, growing unemployment, farmer-herdsmen conflicts and lack of affordable healthcare access that continues to plague Nigeria. One could almost be moved to sympathy for Buhari after his catatonic performance, if it weren’t for the vicious wickedness that is the intention of foisting a second term that would extend and double our misery, on Nigerians.
“Kingsley Moghalu and his running mate demonstrated that their ideas were as dated as those of the establishment they seek to replace. There were no bold plans to create jobs or to light up NIGERIA. There were no clear policy positions on how to address the challenges of insecurity and corruption. The town hall session also revealed the glaring lack of preparation of his vice presidential candidate. Suffice to say that his policies and heavy reliance on his previous stint as the deputy governor – a position that makes him complicit and responsible for a lot of the financial rot that Nigeria faces today – reveal him as being part and parcel of the establishment.
“Atiku and Obi proved yesterday, that all of our fears that electing the PDP would simply replace one layer of corruption with another more complex and pernicious one, were true. Atiku could not satisfactorily explain his part ownership of a company that did extensive business with the Ports Authority when he was still in the Nigerian Customs service. He could not explain the money laundering indictments and allegations made by the US Senate Homeland Security Committee. Peter Obi squirmed and faltered as he attempted to convince Nigerians that he was doing Anambra state a favour when he invested billions of the state’s money in a venture in which his family’s NEXT International Nigeria, was a major shareholder. It is now clear that Atiku and Peter Obi complement themselves well. They are two vultures with the same corrupt feathers. They had no clear plans for any of Nigeria’s most pressing issues. They were clear on one point though – they were willing to offer amnesty to all corrupt persons.
“We are thankful that despite the attempts to prevent Nigerians from seeing and contrasting Sowore with Buhari, Atiku and others on the national stage, the NTA – Daria Media Town Hall series provided objective points of contrast. Sowore demonstrated a masterful grasp of Nigeria’s issues. He showed amazing clarity in his vision for the country. Nigerians were able to learn first-hand that Sowore has been involved in the fight to move Nigeria forward for 30 years. Nigerians saw the courage of his plans and the strength of his conviction. Nigerians were reminded that he is the only candidate that committed to increasing power by 17,000 MW, doubling Nigeria’s road network from 200,000 km to 400,000 km, boosting our rail system from 3,700 km to 8,000 km, creating 5 million new jobs, paying workers a living wage of 100,000 Naira and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“Nigerians also got to see that in Dr Rabiu Rufai, Sowore has a running mate who equally understands Nigeria’s challenges and has the intellect, integrity and political will to be a strong partner in the task of positively transforming Nigeria.”

IN CORRUPTION WE STAND !! Garba Shehu defends Buhari’s alliance with Ganduje, says governor immune to prosecution

Garba Shehu defends Buhari’s alliance with Ganduje, says governor immune to prosecution
Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, says the endorsement of Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, by President Muhammadu Buhari, is not a dent on the administration’s anti-corruption war.
Buhari raised Ganduje’s hands during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Kano on Thursday, signalling an endorsement of the governor’s second term bid despite the corruption allegations levelled against him.
Ganduje was seen in some videos allegedly collecting kickback from some contractors, though the governor denied the allegations.
Many have expressed reservations with the president’s relationship with Ganduje, questioning the depth of Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade.
But in a statement, Shehu said Ganduje is innocent until proven otherwise.
He added that Ganduje enjoys immunity and is free from prosecution based on his status as a sitting governor.
“Some of the suspects being close to the President, he had not shielded them from investigation, administrative suspensions and prosecution,” Shehu said.
“The Presidency added that it is sheer mischief to suggest that President Buhari is shielding anybody because of their closeness to him, explaining that no official under this administration would go unpunished once they break the law.
“On the specific issue of Governor Ganduje of Kano State, the statement noted that Dr. Ganduje, as a sitting Governor, enjoys immunity from prosecution in his own right. Furthermore, under Nigerian laws, a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
“In the circumstances, the matter is in court and the President has no power to dictate to the court or the Kano State House of Assembly, which is already investigating the matter, about what to do with the allegations against Ganduje.
“The Presidency added that it is unfair to ignore the larger picture of the President’s major successes in the war against corruption, including blocking leakages of corruption, which in turn, boosted government revenues.
“The statement challenged President Buhari’s critics to prove that those facing corruption allegations are innocent, adding that the President’s zero tolerance for corruption has boosted and remarkably improved Nigeria’s image in the eyes of world leaders.”

“My women, I am telling you, collect their money and refuse to vote them. Vote the person of your choice. That money they are bringing to you is your money and your entitlement. Don’t give them your PVC. If you give them you have sold your children’s future.”
She went on: “Atiku is an educationist, he has businesses, he has done it before as Vice President and he is going to do it again as President. He was the head of the economic when he was with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Atiku does not want Nigerians money, he has made money. You know he has so many children.
“All the children are not working in government offices except for one, who is a medical doctor and she is the commissioner in Adamawa State.

NURTW supporting APC, don’t use them for logistics – PDP warns INEC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State says INEC should not involve the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the movement of electoral materials during the February and March polls.

The state Chairman of the party, Dr Adegbola Dominic, expressed the position on Thursday at the party’s General Assembly in Lagos.
He said the NURTW had openly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and that the union would surely protect the interests of the ruling party in the February and March elections.
Dominic said a recently held rally of the APC clearly revealed members of the NURTW and its leadership pledging allegiance to the APC.
He said the action of the transport union members clearly showed they were partisan and that they would work to ensure the victory of APC in the elections.
“The Lagos State PDP condemn and reject in totality the announced agreement between the INEC and NURTW with respect to transportation and delivery of election materials before and during the polls.
“We hinge our rejection on the admission and confession of the Lagos APC spokesman, Mr Joe Igbokwe, that officers and members of the NURTW are card carrying members of the APC.
“The viral videos and pictures confirming notorious NURTW officers and members support for APC in Ekiti, Osun and Kwara states and the rally in Lagos shows the union is clearly partisan.
“Consequently, we declare that the NURTW cannot be fair in the distribution and delivery of election materials to all voting centres especially where PDP voters dominate.
‘”We seek that INEC should terminate the agreement and seek collaboration elsewhere,” he said.
Dominic condemned the violence in the recently held rally of the APC, saying the incident threatened democracy and safety of residents.
He said the PDP was not disappointed at the mayhem, claiming violence had been the stock-in-trade of the APC.
The party Chairman urged security agencies to provide security at campaign gatherings to avert what he called the loss of lives and valuables that characterised the APC rally.
The party chairman said the APC had failed Lagos residents and that there was the need for electorates in the state to vote out the ruling party in the general elections.

ASUU strike: Nigerian leaders ‘value cow more than youths’ – Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, weighed in on the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Kanu lamented that the Federal Government allegedly budgeted N91billion for grazing reserves while nothing was allocated for education.
ASUU began its current strike on November 4, 2018 and the end to the industrial action seems not to be close as the Federal Government was yet to meet the demands of the aggrieved lecturers.
Reacting to the protracted strike, Kanu wondered why youths are still supporting leaders who he claimed, valued their “cows more than them.”
In a tweet, the IPOB leader wrote: “N91Billion for grazing reserves but nothing for education. ASUU is still on strike. Youths whose future are being stolen are in support of their oppressors who value their cows more than them.
“Nigeria is indeed a Zoo? No wonder Africans are easy to enslave, it’s genetic.”

Jim Kim: Developing countries rely on donors… not investing their money in human capital

Jim Kim: Developing countries rely on donors… not investing their money in human capital
Jim Yong Kim, outgoing president of the World Bank, says developing countries across the world have been relying on resources from donors for investments in human capital.
In a note published on his Linkedin page on Tuesday, Kim said heads of state and finance ministers of developing countries have not invested enough of their own resources in their citizens.
“At the Annual Meetings in Indonesia last October, we launched the Human Capital Project, which directly links investments in human capital with economic growth,” he wrote.
“The project makes it clear to heads of state and finance ministers how much more productive their workforce could be with better health and education outcomes,”
“For too long, developing countries have relied on the generosity of donors for investments in human capital and not invested enough of their own resources.
“The Human Capital Project makes the evidence of the economic benefits of those investments clear for heads of state and finance ministers, and the Human Capital Index – which ranks countries according to their investments in human capital – makes the evidence hard to ignore.”
Nigeria was ranked 152 out of 157 countries considered in the index, which measured countries’ contribution of health and education to the productivity of the next generation of their workers.
Kim would be joining Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a New York-based private investment fund owned by Bayo Ogunlesi, as a partner and vice chairman.

LAGOS : Ambode may be impeached – Glorified Village Assembly insists

The Lagos State House of Assembly reconvened for an emergency parliamentary session on Wednesday where it declared Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode may be impeached over alleged financial infractions in the 2018 budget and the yet-to-be-laid 2019 Appropriation Bill.

The House had on Monday adjourned till Feb. 4, after summoning the governor and relevant commissioners to appear before it in seven days to explain themselves.
The lawmakers said if they failed to show up, gathering of signatures for the governor’s impeachment would begin.
Following the threat, about five different groups staged peaceful protests to the House on Wednesday, demanding that the House should desist from any attempt to impeach Ambode.
In another development, a group, the Legislative Probity and Accountability (LPA) asked the Assembly to account for the N28.8 billion allegedly collected as running cost.
Reacting on behalf of the House at a news conference after Wednesday’s emergency meeting, the Majority Leader, Mr Sanai Agunbiade said that the House was not witch-hunting Ambode, but wanted due process on the appropriation bill.
Agunbiade said that the House would apply the maximum sanction on the governor if he failed to utilise the window of one week given to him to appear before the House for explanations.
According to him, the House is doing all in the interest of the public and the tax payers’ money.
The majority leader said it was illegal for the governor to start spending budget estimates without the appropriation bill being first laid before the House.
“We are responding to various groups that have come today to appeal to the House in respect of what they heard and the seeming impasse between the executive and the House.
“We decided to correct the misconceptions and wrong information that have been fed the public.
“We wish to state clearly that today, about five groups paid visit to Lagos Assembly to plead with the House not to impeach the governor.
“The issue before us is not whether or not we want Gov. Ambode to end his tenure. He is still the governor of Lagos State and we take him as the governor.
“We want the public to know that the major issue in contention is the 2019 appropriation bill, which by now we feel should have been before the House,’’ Agunbiade said.
Agunbiade said that the House waited for the budget in December but did not get it.
“Unless the budget is laid before the House, there is no budget before the House of Assembly,’’ he said.
The lawmaker added: “We were willing to take the budget, but we didn’t have the budget.
“We now discovered that expenditures are being incurred and warrants have been issued in respect of the budget that has not been laid before the House.
“This we found inappropriate, and before this also, we have found some infractions in the 2018 budget, where we discovered that some expenditures were made outside the budget without the approval of the House.
“We have to make these clarifications so as to let the public know that what is going on is not witch-hunting.
“We are legislators and we must do things properly. The government must be well funded; why should we be managing when we can make things work freely?
“The House of Assembly is doing all these in the interest of the state and the intent that we want Lagos to continue to flourish, but we cannot compromise the constitution.’’
