Emiliano Sala’s body found

Britain’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch, AAIB, said on Monday that they have concluded the search on the missing Premier League star, Emiliano Sala.

AAIB said they have found Sala’s body inside the wreckage of the plane on seabed near Guernsey.
DAILY POST had reported that the wreckage of the aircraft which disappeared over the English Channel in January, carrying the Cardiff City striker and his pilot was found on Sunday.

A privately-funded underwater search had begun on Sunday, several days after investigators said they found two seat cushions on the French coast that likely belonged to the aircraft.
According to EuroSport, Britain’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch said in a statement said: “Based on analysis of ROV (underwater remotely operated vehicle) video footage, the AAIB investigators on board the vessel concluded that the object is wreckage from the missing Piper Malibu aircraft,”.
“Tragically, in video footage from the ROV, one occupant is visible amidst the wreckage. The AAIB is now considering the next steps, in consultation with the families of the pilot and passenger, and the police.”

Meanwhile, Sala’s father, Horacio Sala, had earlier said he had remained in shock after the missing plane carrying his son was found.

Nnamdi Kanu vs Atiku: IPOB leader reveals how to prove ex-VP is from Cameroon

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday revealed who can prove if Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is from Cameroon.

Recall that the IPOB leader had during a live broadcast over the weekend, alleged that Abubakar was a Cameroonian and not a Nigerian.

However, reports claimed that the camp of the former Vice President challenged Kanu to provide evidence that the Waziri Adamawa was from Cameroon.

Reacting, Kanu said those doubting his claim should ask the Lamido of Adamawa, Aliyu Mustapha Lamido.

In a tweet, Kanu wrote: “It was the Referendum of 1961 that made Atiku a Nigerian, before that he was a Cameroonian. If in doubt ask HRH Aliyu Mustapha Lamido of Adamawa.

“This has proved the greatest historical argument yet for the Biafra Referendum.

“Now I understand why they were denied history lessons in schools and universities. The caliphate wanted to make them even dumber. Common history of Adamawa they don’t know. Yet they claim they are educated. Damnable Zoological Republic. #SitAtHome on 16 February and be counted.”

2019 Presidency: SERAP reacts to Atiku’s plan to grant amnesty to looters

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has countered presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Atiku Abubakar over plans to grant amnesty to corrupt Nigerians if elected president.

Atiku said he may consider granting looters amnesty provided they are willing to reinvest their loot in Nigeria, thereby creating jobs.

The former Vice president said this on Wednesday while answering questions on ‘The Candidates’, a presidential town hall co-production on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

But, SERAP , reacting in a post on its official Twitter handle condemned Atiku’s plan to grant amnesty to looters.

According to SERAP, the corrupt must be held accountable and not escape justice.

The post read: “Dear Atiku, granting amnesty for corrupt persons will exacerbate impunity for corruption in Nigeria.

“SERAP Nigeria will challenge any such amnesty if it’s ever adopted as a policy, should you be elected into the office. The corrupt must be held to account, and not escape.”

Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi, meets UAE Crown Prince

Pope Francis met with the United Arab Emirates Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday, the start of a historic trip as the first head of the Catholic Church to set foot on the Arabian Peninsula.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President and ruler of Dubai, also attended the meeting at the presidential palace in the capital Abu Dhabi, which took place after the pope was welcomed with military honours and a flying squadron.

Later, the pope will hold a meeting with a council of Muslim elders in the Sheikh Zayed Mosque before speaking at an inter-religious meeting attended by hundreds of representatives from different faiths.

On Tuesday, roughly 130,000 worshippers are expected to gather in a sports stadium, many coming from neighbouring countries, for an open-air Mass with the pope.

Francis, since becoming pope, has called for more dialogue between Muslims and Catholics.

The UAE is an Islamic country, with migrants, mainly from Asia, making up the majority of the population.

Ekiti introduces e-receipt to eliminate tax fraud

Ekiti State Government has introduced electronic receipt (e-receipt) as part of reforms in the collection of taxes and revenue generation.

The state Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, said the use of e-receipt would block loopholes through which the state revenue finds its way into private pockets.

Egbeyemi disclosed this while hosting the national executive officers of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) led by its President, Chief Cyril Ede, in Ado-Ekiti.

Egbeyemi said that with the introduction of e-receipt, no revenue officer in the state was permitted to take cash from members of the public.

He explained that Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to stop using manual receipts and key into the new e-receipt regime consequent upon the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The deputy governor warned people of the state against patronizing middlemen or touts to pay money into any government account.

He added that the government had also introduced the Direct Bank Lodgment System (DBLS) which would assist in blocking leakages and boost IGR of the State.

According to him, the state government has hired consultants that will be working round the clock to ensure that no revenue will be lost.

Egbeyemi explained that with the engagement of consultants, the state now has two operational electronic platforms which are the Auto-reg and e-receipt centre.

He stated that Gov Kayode Fayemi’s administration was more determined to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to reduce dependence on federal allocations.

Egbeyemi also called on the people to assist the administration by paying their taxes as and when due to assist the government to provide better service and more social amenities.

Army chief orders soldiers to clamp down on Biafran supporters

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai on Monday urged troops to clamp down on activities of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its splinter groups to prevent disruption of the forthcoming election.

Buratai, who gave the directive in Abuja, when he declared open the 2019 first quarter Chief of Army Conference, accused the banned group of planning to disrupt the election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that unlike in the past the conference is tagged “the Chief of Army Staff Operations Conference.’’

According to him, activities of IPOB are gaining momentum ahead of the election.

“Their excesses must, therefore, be curtailed immediately,’’ he said.

The Federal Government, in September 2017 through an Executive Order of President Muhammadu Buhari, outlawed the Indigenous People of Biafra and its activities in every part of the country.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, thereafter gave judicial backing to the Executive Order.

The Acting Chief Judge of the Court, Justice Abdu Kafarati, granted the order proscribing the group.

The court declared that activities of the group constituted acts of terrorism and illegality.

The army chief also noted that the political clashes in Taraba and a few other states, called for enhanced liaison between commanders, the police and other security agencies.

He said the collaboration was necessary “in order to de-escalate tension as quickly as possible.’’

Buratai restated that there were intelligence reports on “subversive motives by some unpatriotic groups aided by foreign conspirators to scuttle the peaceful conduct of the election in some parts of the country.’’

He warned such detractors to immediately mend their ways.

“The Nigerian Army is working closely with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure an enabling environment for good citizens of our dear country to exercise their civic rights.

“In this regard, GOCs and field Commanders at all levels are to deal decisively with any form of security breach.’’

On involvement of officers and soldiers in the conduct of the election, Buratai said he had in the past one year given clear directives on the posture they should adopt during the exercise.

According to him, the need for the Nigerian Army to remain apolitical and professionally responsive in the discharge of its constitutional roles has been stressed.

“All personnel must remain neutral, non-partisan and transparent in all their actions.

“I need to reiterate that there will be zero-tolerance for any action and in-action by commanders at all levels that is deemed tilted towards giving undue advantage to any candidate, political party, ethnic or religious leanings to the detriment of the unity and integrity of Nigeria.

“This include knowingly or unknowingly receiving any form of inducement from politicians or other entities, be it public or private.

“GOCs and Field Commanders at all levels are to warn all officers and soldiers under their command to remain forthright and not in any way deviate from the professional ethics of the Nigerian Army,’’ he added.

Still on the election, the army chief said he had issued operational directives for Operation Safe conduct for the general election.

“The Nigerian Army has also produced a Code of Conduct Handbook for personnel to guide them during the election and copies have been distributed to all formations.’’

He reminded them of events in the 2015 general election which subsequently led to the “sad exit of some fine officers, who were found culpable.’’

“I therefore enjoin you all to impress on your personnel to avoid a repeat of such occurrences,’’ he said, noting that the army’s role in support of the nations’ democracy “cannot be over-emphasised.''

How Adeboye prayed for Osinbajo’s protection before crash-landing

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has revealed how Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) called him after Friday’s Holy Ghost service to pray for him.

Osinbajo disclosed this at RCCG City of Grace, Lokoja, Kogi state during a thanksgiving service after his helicopter crash landed in Kabba on Saturday.

“Only God can take the glory for saving my life and that of the nine crew members on board.”

“No amount of thanksgiving and praises to God would be enough for saving my life and nine crew on board.

“God is the one who can do all things, and only him can take the glory; we return the glory to him.

“We are here to say thank you, thank you Jesus.  We bless his name forever and ever,” he said.

He prayed God to bless all the people that have celebrated with him in the state, the nation and the world at large.

“All I have to say is that we are grateful and we are moving to the next level; the Lord will uphold us to the next level and Kogi will be number one,” Osinbanjo said.

The Vice President in his testimony at the church gave God all the glory, praise and thanksgiving. He then narrated how Pastor E. A. Adeboye had called him in after Friday’s Holy Ghost service to pray and asked him about the progress of the campaigns.

“I briefed him on the progress we have made with the campaign and then the General Overseer prayed for God’s protection for me in all my travels and movements.

Prof. Osinbajo narrated how Pastor Adeboye emphasized the prayer of protection and that was Friday midnight. The crash-landing happened on Saturday, hours after the prayers by Pastor Adeboye.

In his thanksgiving speech, Prof. Osinbajo said the plan of the devil for him and those on the chopper was different from the outcome.

“That was not what the devil had planned but what did the headline read, Vice President Osinbajo’s helicopter crashes all unhurt, not one crash,” he said during a thanksgiving service in Lokoja on Sunday.

Earlier, in a live telecast from the RCCG headquarters, Lagos, Pastor Adeboye, asked the congregation to rise and give glory to God for saving the life of his son, VP Osinbajo, from a crash.

According to Adeboye, the devil wanted to take the life of Yemi Osinbajo, but God put the devil to shame.

He, therefore, asked the congregation to specially appreciate God on behalf of the Vice President and all the crew onboard, for his supernatural protection, saying Nigeria would not mourn.

In his sermon, entitled: “Carriers of Glory”, Adeboye said for anybody to carry glory, he must be a true child of God and live a life of holiness.

Taking his lesson from the Bible in the book of Matthew 5: 14- 15, he said: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

“As a carrier of glory, anywhere you arrive the darkness will automatically disappear.

“When God begins to use you, the glory belongs to God and you, so you must learn to always give glory to God.

“Do not take the glory to yourself because it is not yours, it belongs to God,” Adeboye said.
