Italian prosecutor reported to justice ministry - for not wearing socks

In Italy, showing too much flesh is a charge normally levelled at scantily-clad showgirls and actresses on late-night television.

But now the accusation has been made against a middle-aged magistrate from Tuscany.
Aldo Giubilaro has been formally reported by a group of politicians for having the temerity to hold a press conference without any socks on, as the country roasted in temperatures of up to 95°F.
He appears to have been attempting a classic Italian summer look – at this time of year the country is full of suave businessmen in sharp suits who forego socks in order to reveal tanned ankles, typically above a pair of expensive suede or leather loafers.

Mr Giubilaro, from the Tuscan town of Massa Carrara, did not quite have the mahogany tan to carry off the look with 100 per cent success, with his ankles appearing ivory white rather than mahogany brown.

But his sartorial choice was enough to invite the wrath of a senator, Lucio Barani, as well as 14 other centre-Right politicians, who sent an official complaint to the ministry of justice.
Mr Barani, a member of the upper house of parliament, accused the prosecutor of “not presenting a good image of the justice system.”

“Given that Mr Giubilaro represents a state institution, he should not present himself sprawled about, wearing shoes without socks.”
The magistrate’s dress was “hardly appropriate, in particular the absence of socks,” he said, adding that regardless of the weather, decorum should be maintained.

“Even when it’s hot, I wear a jacket, a shirt and a tie. Many of the prosecutor’s colleagues have to wear gowns in court, even in August.”
Mr Giubilaro was unrepentant, saying the complaint about his wardrobe barely merited a response.  “But say I would say that it doesn’t seem right to me that the senator should insult the magistracy like this,” he said.

Chelsea facing fresh competition for Alex Sandro

Brasil Global Tour: Australia v Brazil

Over the last few weeks, Chelsea have been trying to finalise a deal to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus.

At one stage, a club-record £61m deal which would see Sandro become the most expensive defender of all time was reportedly close to being completed, but now it seems there could be some complications.

Those complications come in the form of clubs rivalling the Blues for the Brazilian as Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio states that both Manchester City and PSG have entered the race to sign Sandro this summer.

Sandro has spent the last two seasons in Serie A with Juventus following a £23m switch from Porto in 2015 and has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the game today.

Chelsea have been negotiating personal terms with Sandro and a deal is close to completion, but now with more clubs reportedly looking to sign him, that could slow down the transfer process once again.

Kenya is the first country in Africa to introduce a generic version of the current drug of choice for people living with HIV, officials said Wednesday.

Kenya's government and the global health initiative Unitaid announced that the East African nation will make the generic version of dolutegravir available for routine use. They said Nigeria and Uganda will introduce the drug later this year.

The move is part of efforts to make such drugs that are widely used in developed countries more accessible to impoverished ones. It can take more than a decade for new drugs to be introduced in lower-income countries, Unitaid said.

The World Health Organization says the region most affected by HIV is sub-Saharan Africa, which has two-thirds of the world's new HIV infections. In 2015, more than 25 million people in sub-Saharan Africa were living with HIV, according to WHO.

Kenya's health ministry says it will give the drug initially to 27,000 people living with HIV who can't tolerate the current drug of choice used in the country, efavirenz. It will be distributed free of charge as part of the country's free antiretroviral program in public hospitals, officials said.
The plan is to make the drug available nationwide later this year.

Man docked over rape of 9-year-old girl

A 50-year-old man, Abdullahi Yusuf, on Wednesday appeared before a Jos Upper Area Court, sitting at Kasuwan Nama, charged with allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl.

The accused, a resident of Lasisi Street, Laranto, Jos first appeared on May 6, specifically accused of rape.

The police prosecutor, Mr E. A. Inegbenoise, during the arraignment, told the court that the victims’ father reported the matter at the Laranto police station, on March 17.
Inegbenoise alleged that the accused person lured the minor into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.

“The cat was let out of the bag when the victim could not walk properly for days and, upon interrogation, told her mother that the accused raped her and showed bruises she sustained in the process,” he stated.

Inegbenoise alleged that the accused, in a confessional statement, owned up to the crime, but claimed that he did not penetrate her.
“The accused claimed that he only `viciously fingered’ her,” the prosecutor alleged.
During the arraignment, however, the accused denied the allegation and was granted bail by the judge, Mr Mustapha Yahaya, after his Counsel, Mr David Adudu, prayed for it.

Adudu, in his prayer, cited section 36(1) of the 1999 constitution which stated that an accused person was innocent until proved otherwise.
He said that if the bail was granted, his client would not jump bail and would never interfere with police investigation.

The prosecutor, however, objected to the bail, and expressed the fear that the accused person would jump bail.
He explained that the offence was not bailable unless in special circumstances and in the interest of justice, and urged the court to reject the plea.
The judge, after listening to both parties, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 .

He ordered the accused to produce one surety who must be a guardian of the accused or a ward head residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
The matter was adjourned until July 21, for hearing.

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is expected to complete his move to Bournemouth this weekend.
Defoe was reported to have agreed terms with Bournemouth last month, with his Sunderland deal including a clause that allowed him to leave for free after they were relegated.
News HQ understands Defoe will sign a three-year deal on in the region of £65,000-a-week to stay in the Premier League with Eddie Howe's side.

He scored 15 goals in 37 Premier League appearances for Sunderland last season but his goals were not enough to keep them in the top division.

Defoe will be returning to the club 16 years after his last game for Bournemouth, having scored 18 goals while on loan from West Ham during the 2000/01 campaign.

The Cherries are also hoping to bring in Chelsea defender Nathan Ake for a fee in the region of £20m after he had a successful loan spell at the Vitality Stadium in the first half of last season

Strangers Buy Car For Man Who Walks Miles To Work Each Day

A group of generous strangers teamed up to buy Justin Korva, 20, a new car after learning he walked to his job in Rockwall, Texas.

Total strangers have made one 20-year-old’s daily commute a heck of a lot easier.

A generous group of people in Rockwall, Texas, surprised Justin Korva ― whom many of them had never even met ― with a Toyota Camry on Friday.

They banded together after discovering he walked 3 miles to and from work at Taco Casa each day. In a video that’s going viral, Korva’s reaction was priceless:

It’s just an instant blessing, an instant surprise,” Korva told Fox 4 of the gift.
Local resident Andy Mitchell decided to bring people together to buy Korva his own vehicle after recently offering him a ride to work.

Inspired by Korva’s determination to work hard and make something of himself, Mitchell installed a donation box at a restaurant, which raised the cash needed to buy the Camry in less than a week.
It’s unclear exactly how much money was raised, but a new Camry can retail for about $23,000. They also paid for a $500 gas card, two years of oil changes and one year of car insurance for Korva. HuffPost has reached out for further information.

Mitchell’s wife, Mandi Morton Mitchell, broadcast the moment they presented Korva with his new set of wheels on Facebook Live, as seen above
