Court remands pastor over alleged fraud
An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Tuesday remanded a pastor, Onawale Adeniyi, 33, over alleged fraud.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Christian Olajide, told court that the accused committed the offence in 2016 at Asipa in the Ipetumodu Magisterial District in Ile-Ife.
Olajide explained that the accused collected N794, 000 from one Kayode Oyebode, a church member, under pretext of getting visa for him to travel out.
He said the offence contravened Section 383 (1), punishable under Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap. 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Adeniyi, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing
The Defence Counsel, Mr Tunde Babasola, applied for bail for his client on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs Iyabo Salami, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Salami said that the surety must be gainfully employed and must produce three years tax clearance certificate.
She adjourned the case till May 8 for hearing.
