Arsenal have been linked with a surprise swoop for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Gunners are cited by Italian reports as a potential destination for the Greek international, who has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga in recent years.
Arsenal’s defensive woes have been well publicised throughout the season and a move for a top quality central defender would come as no surprise this summer.
The 29-year-old is, however, a vital player in Peter Stoger’s Dortmund side and it’s unlikely that the Bundesliga outfit will want to part ways with Sokratis in the imminent future.
Sokratis has often been linked with a move to the Premier League but has never seen a transfer materialise. However, a host of top flight clubs from England are rumoured to be pondering a move in the summer.
