According to a report in the Mirror, Chelsea legend John Terry will be ready to sign for Aston Villa next week as his current contact runs out at the weekend.

The former England international becomes a free agent on Saturday and he, despite interest from several Premier League clubs, seems to be willing to drop down to the Championship after twenty years in the top flight of English football. One of the reasons for this is because he doesn’t want to play against his beloved Chelsea next season.

The Villans are currently outbidding their local rivals Birmingham, with a £5 million pound one-year deal which includes huge bonuses if he manages to help Villa return to the Premier League.

It is understood that Blues’ boss Harry Redknapp has resigned himself to missing out on the 36-year-old defender.
Tony Xia made it a personal mission to beat Birmingham to Terry’s signature, and it looks like he will soon get his man.
