Over 100 Shi’ites arraigned, granted bail
The police have arraigned over 100 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) before an Abuja magistrate court for alleged disturbance of public peace.

Among the IMN members – better known as Shiites – arraigned before the court on Thursday were more than 10 women.
They were arrested on Tuesday following a violent protest in Wuse part of Abuja. They had been protesting the continued detention of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, their leader.

The police had said part of what was recovered from them included bottles of petrol bomb.
The Shi’ites were arraigned before various magistrates at the court on a five-count criminal charge bordering on disturbance of public peace, causing bodily harm to individuals, rioting and others.
The defendants all pleaded not guilty to the charges and subsequently applied for bail.
The various magistrates granted them bail at various sums ranging from N50,000 go N200,000 with a surety in like sum.

The sitting was adjourned till December 5. - THECABLE
