Alabama, USA — August 23, 2026
A man convicted of the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl has been executed in Alabama after he asked the courts to allow him to stop pursuing further appeals and proceed with his death sentence.
Jeremy Tremaine Williams, 42, was put to death by lethal injection on August 13, 2026, for the 2021 killing of Kamarie Holland in Phenix City, Alabama. His execution was one of three carried out in the United States that day.
Williams had been sentenced to death after being convicted of multiple capital murder charges arising from the child's death. Prosecutors said Holland was sexually assaulted and strangled, and that the attack was recorded.
After his conviction, Williams dismissed his lawyers and requested a speedy execution, effectively choosing not to continue fighting his death sentence through the normal appeals process. Alabama authorities subsequently set an execution window, which was later carried out.
Williams was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m. Central Time on August 13, according to reports. He reportedly expressed remorse before his execution.
The case shocked the community because of the age of the victim and the circumstances surrounding her death. Kamarie's mother was also prosecuted and sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to sex trafficking-related charges.
The case also had links to Alaska. Williams had been a suspect in the 2005 death of his infant daughter there, and prosecutors said indictments remained pending in Alaska in connection with other alleged crimes. Alaska does not have the death penalty, meaning the capital punishment imposed on Williams came from his Alabama conviction.
The execution has renewed debate over capital punishment, particularly in cases involving the murder of children. Supporters argue that the death penalty provides the ultimate punishment for exceptionally brutal crimes, while opponents continue to question whether the state should have the power to take a convicted prisoner's life.
For Kamarie Holland's family, however, the execution marked the final chapter in a case that began with the loss of a five-year-old child whose life was taken in a crime prosecutors described as exceptionally brutal.
