"Ọ̀ṣà Bọ̀lẹ̀ Gbé Mi Ṣe Mi Bọ̀jẹ́ Bà Mi” — When Life Turns Against You

There are moments in life when you begin to wonder why the very people, places, or circumstances you trusted seem to be working against you. The Yoruba expression “Ọ̀ṣà bọ̀lẹ̀ gbé mi ṣe mi bọ̀jẹ́ bà mi” captures a deep feeling of being overwhelmed by forces or situations that appear to have turned against you.

Life is not always predictable. Sometimes, you can do everything you believe is right and still encounter disappointment, betrayal, rejection, hardship, or unexpected obstacles. In such moments, it is easy to blame everyone around you or conclude that life itself has become your enemy.

But difficult seasons can also become seasons of revelation.

They can teach you who genuinely supports you, who only stays when things are convenient, and who may secretly rejoice at your struggles. They can also reveal your own strength. A person who has never faced adversity may never discover how resilient they truly are.

When people turn against you, do not allow bitterness to consume your heart. Protect your peace, learn from the experience, and keep moving forward. Not every battle deserves your response, and not every person deserves access to your life.

Most importantly, remain prayerful and watchful. When human support fails, your faith can become your greatest source of strength. Ask God for wisdom to recognise what you cannot change, courage to change what you can, and discernment to know the difference.

Sometimes, what looks like rejection may be redirection. What looks like an ending may be the beginning of another chapter. And what feels like a battle today may eventually become the testimony you use to encourage someone else tomorrow.

Never allow the way people treat you to determine the value you place on yourself.

Stand firm. Keep your heart clean. Learn your lessons. Choose your company wisely. Trust God, and continue your journey.

Because sometimes, when everything seems to be working against you, you are actually being prepared for something greater.
