Ogun govt shuts down hospital over death of 24-year old

The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, has ordered the immediate closure of Glorious Ona Ara Clinic and Maternity over the death of a 24-year-old twin, Kehinde Sikiru.
The hospital was accused of illegally performing a surgery on the 24-year-old and operating outside the confines of its license.

The hospital was subsequently shut down by the Ministry of Health Monitoring team at Itori Odo in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.
Ipaye disclosed that the ministry took the decision after investigating petitions by many people against the hospital.
He said, ”We have received so many calls, petitions and complains from good people of the state on that particular hospital, performing illegal operations against the license approved for the facility because there is a standing order that patience with complications or complicated issues be immediately referee to the nearest general hospital for better treatment.
”It was so sad that Kehinde Sikiru died as a result of the illegal operation carried out on him which was against the medical profession which forbade maternity homes, mission homes and traditional birth attendants from injecting or preforming operations on their patients as they are not licensed to do so.”
Ipaye, who sent his condolences to the deceased’s family, warned that any health facilities found operating beyond the approved limit of their license would be shut and their registration certificate withdrawn.
The latest hospital closure brings to 169 the number of private health facilities sealed off in the state since the re-validation and registration exercise commenced in January, 2016..
