This issue of this defection is becoming more embarrassing and disgraceful.
No defector can come out and vouch that his/her decision is based on principle or constituency's consultation. All the politicians that defected based their reason on crisis within their current party, and bandwagon effect (follow follow) and voice of God.
All the time, many of this crisis in political parties are not about liberating poor masses from poverty and making their life better but is about personal interests involving juicy appointments, political ambition and the rest.
It is gradually becoming an election cycle event and norm for selfish politicians and political parties. Defection has been turned to a weapon of personal and political interest with sole aim of grabbing power from the current holders.
The same scenario that played out in 2014 is taking place again in 2018. Overview of 2014 defection has shown that poor masses/ political supporters are at receiving end. Majority of these defectors have no political ideology and sense of responsibility. They have turned their political supporters and the masses to pawn in the game of politics.
All these set of people from Kwankwaso to Saraki to Ortom and others engaged in the political transfer in 2014 and now back to the same party they left four years ago.
My question is what has change ?
What we should ask ourselves is what have they done in the last four years to uplift their states, constituencies and the masses at large ?
The governors among these defectors should explain to us how they have raised the standard of living of their various states especially on education, healthcare delivery and water supply.
Your guess is as good as mine.....they have done nothing.
The lawmakers among them also have done nothing to initiate and approve bills that will lessen the financial burden on the masses and impact positively on majority like bill supporting free healthcare, free education, disability supports, elderly supports, farmers' supports and so on.
The only people they support without bill are political thugs and criminals....you recollect the OFFA robbery and Saraki's role.
Their best is providing sub-standard grinding machines, tailoring machines, motorcycles to their constituents, this is nothing but counter productive. This will not reduce poverty level among the people. What the people need is sustainable supports.
At the moment the Nigeria politics is about personal business and money making venture. The majority of these defectors are law makers that are supposed to be the conscience and engine room of the governance instead they are 'legislooter' that are after money sharing and budget padding.
Seriously our democracy is at risk as a result of this and other associated problems because there is no political ideology and selfless politicians.
In a civilized clime, a political defector will resign from his/her post and re contest for the same position on another political platform. But in this part of our world we have no integrity to go by the simple rule.
The two majority parties, APC and PDP have failed to delivered on their promises. Both parties have no honorary person among them. The latter party is the worse because they wasted sixteen years doing nothing in power from 1999 to 2015.
So cross carpeting and political defection without following the laid down rules means nothing to them.
My own take is that with the set of greedy and reckless political defectors there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Nigerians if they manage to smuggle themselves back to power. Nigerians should stop celebrating over this issue and arise for their survival. - Irunmole-nla
