The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu, has removed CSP Francis Ani, the Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu, from his post.
Ani and some of the division’s officers were sanctioned for the harassment and illegal detention of Tunde Abass and Kabir Mohammed.
Abass was locked up for recording the harassment of Mohammed at the Onipanu area on Friday, March 19 at about 5pm.
Abbas tried to intervene as officers assaulted the civilian. As a punishment for his effrontery, the team arrested him and Mohammed.
Muyiwa Adejobi, Lagos command spokesman, said the CP perused the report of a probe into the incident and found them culpable of human rights violation.
Odumosu condemned the act of unprofessionalism, excessive use of power and assured that extortion and lawlessness would not be tolerated.
The Police chief has ordered an orderly room trial to recommend punishment for the overzealous personnel.
