Newlywed Couple Killed in Tragic Car Crash in Albania

A newlywed couple have tragically lost their lives in a devastating car crash in Albania, just three days after secretly getting married.

Sara Brugnatelli, 26, and her husband, Kleo Vrioni, 25, were among those travelling in a BMW when it crashed in the town of Manëz, near Durrës and north of Tirana, shortly after 2am on Wednesday, August 19.

According to reports, the vehicle was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control. The BMW reportedly struck a concrete structure before overturning and sliding along the road.

Sara and Kleo died at the scene.

Three other passengers — Alvi Muhaxhiri, 15, Rejsi Vrioni, 25, and Klevis Dervish, 16 — were seriously injured and taken to a trauma hospital in Tirana for treatment.

Newly married just days before tragedy

The couple's deaths have shocked relatives and friends, particularly because they had reportedly married privately only three days before the crash.

Sara, who was originally from Italy, had been living with Kleo, an Albanian national, near Bergamo. She worked in a pet supplies shop, while Kleo was employed as a bricklayer.

Friends and neighbours described the news as difficult to comprehend, with some saying they had not even known the couple had recently married.

Investigation underway

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Reports say CCTV footage showed the BMW travelling at approximately 71mph before the driver lost control.

Toxicology testing reportedly found that Kleo had consumed alcohol before driving. The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances leading up to the collision, including speed and alcohol consumption.

The tragedy has left two families mourning what should have been the beginning of a new chapter in the couple's lives.

Sara's family and friends are reportedly awaiting the necessary procedures before her remains can be returned to Italy.

What was meant to be a celebration of marriage has instead ended in heartbreaking loss, leaving loved ones to mourn a young couple whose lives were cut short only days after they said their vows.
