Chelsea have reached a €40m deal in principle with French champions AS Monaco for the transfer of Tiemoué Bakayoko, according to sources in France.
Blues boss Antonio Conte has made it clear he wants Bakayoko, who made his debut for France last month, to join him in London.
The deal works out at around £36 million for the holding midfielder and will become Antonio Conte’s first summer signing. The French midfielder is likely to sign a five-year deal once personal terms have been agreed.
The deal could also pave the way for current defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic to leave Stamford Bridge for Manchester United, with rumours suggesting he will be allowed to leave the Premier League champions if Bakayoko signs.
Bakayoko, 22, impressed during an exceptional season for AS Monaco, which saw them clinch the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 17 years, and helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
