Mexican professional boxer Ulises Hueto Elizalde was shot dead by masked gunmen after leaving his gym in Mexico City.

The 33-year-old, who wore a tracksuit and backpack, had just finished a session in the gym at around 1pm and was making his way home.
But two masked attackers approached him on a motorbike and fired at least 12 times, it has been reported.

The gunmen quickly fled, leaving Elizalde bleeding on the pavement and it has since been confirmed that he was killed by four bullet wounds to the neck and two to the face.

Authorities in the area believe the attack was gang-related although it is unclear why Elizalde, known as ‘El Chispa’ ('The Spark'), was targeted.
In memory of the boxer, Combox CDMX, Mexico's professional boxing commission, paid tribute to him on their Facebook page.

Beneath a picture of a black ribbon, they wrote: "The CDMX joins the grief that seizes the family of boxer Ulysses "The Spark" Hueto Elizalde for his senseless death. We hope comfort arrives to their hearts soon. Rest in peace."

Super middleweight Elizalde, who was licensed with CDMX at the time of his death, had two professional fights, losing both.
