Napoli want Pepe Reina to stay despite Newcastle interest

Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri wants Pepe Reina to stay at the club for the upcoming Serie A season despite interest from Newcastle United, talkSPORT reports.

Reina was Rafa Benitez’s first-choice goalkeeper during his time at Liverpool and Benitez reportedly wants to reunite with Reina once more and bring him to newly promoted Newcastle United.

When asked about the speculation linking Reina with a move away from the club, Napoli boss Sarri told TMW:
“He’s a great lad. I hope Reina remains our goalkeeper for a long time.”
Sarri went on to add:
“He’s fundamental also in the way he thinks. He’s a faithful man, who is loyal to the coach, and Pepe brings this feeling into the dressing room.”
Reina has established himself as Sarri’s first-choice keeper at Napoli but only has one year left to run on his contract.

Benitez has already sounded out Reina’s representatives as he tries to push through a deal for the Spaniard.

Benitez has signed Reina twice before as manager at both Liverpool and Napoli and is looking to bring Reina back to the Premier League again this summer.
