Southampton are confident that Virgil Van Dijk will accept the club’s stance and stay for another season.
According to The Telegraph, Southampton are refusing to sell the defender this summer and expect Van Dijk to understand.
The report claims that Southampton are unwilling to sell Van Dijk to Liverpool.
This comes after much speculation over his future in recent months, including a debacle with Liverpool.
The Merseyside club were forced to issue an apology and ‘end their interest’ in Van Dijk after being accused of tapping the Dutch defender up.
This has forced Van Dijk’s hand, who has requested to leave the club, despite being named team captain back in January.
Van Dijk signed a six-year contract extension last summer.
It was reported that Van Dijk met Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to discuss a move to the Anfield side, without Southampton’s permission.
Les Reed has since come out to say that Van Dijk will not be sold this summer, with the club in control of his situation.- Read Sport
