Wayne Rooney scores first Everton goal since his return in carbon copy of famous strike against Arsenal

Wayne Rooney scored in his first match for Everton since completing his return to the club earlier this week.

Ronald Koeman's side were playing Gor Mahia from Kenya in the first match of their pre-season tour.
After an eventful first half that saw him approached by a pitch invader wearing a Manchester United shirt, Rooney gave Everton the lead with a superb curling finish from 25 yards out.

A number of Everton fans were quick to point out that the effort was almost identical to Rooney's first ever senior goal for Everton against Arsenal in 2002.

Kenyan side Gor Mahia earned the right to play Everton after winning the regional SportPesa Super Cup, which pitted teams from Tanzania against those from Kenya.
Rooney was given a hero's welcome when he arrived in Tanzania earlier this week.
Tanzania's vice-president joked she was not sure whether to switch allegiance from his old club, Manchester United.

“Wayne Rooney made me support Manchester United and now I don’t know what to do because he has gone back to Everton,” she said.
“Being here it has been a new experience for me and I hope the vice president will now be able to support Everton,” Rooney responded. -The Telegraph
