Tragic !!! Sierra Leone mudslide kills 100, others stranded



At least 179 people have been reported dead, while others are stranded in a mudslide in Sierra Leone.
At the early hours of Monday, a hillside in the Regent area collapsed following heavy rain, leaving many houses covered in mud and residents
stranded.




Sierra Leone’s Vice-President Victor Bockarie Foh confirming the tragic incident said it was “likely that hundreds are lying dead”.
He told Reuters that the disaster was “so serious that I myself feel broken,the total number of casualties is likely to rise.”
He said that the area was being cordoned off as people were being evacuated, including many still feared trapped in their homes.



According to spokesman for the Red Cross, Abubakarr Tarawallie, 179 bodies had been taken to the central morgue in Freetown.

“At least 100 properties had been submerged and that some had collapsed after a section of Sugar Loaf mountain came down at around 06:00 GMT.

“Volunteers and staff of RedCross were involved in search and rescue operations but people affected were in immediate need of shelter and blankets.”
