Self-confessed witch lynched to death by angry mob

An angry mob in Doka Village of Bauchi State lynched a self-confessed ‘witch’, Liyatu Michael  to death.

The second victim identified as Keziya, who suffered a similar beating, is currently battling for life in an undisclosed hospital.

The two women faced backlash after they allegedly confessed to be among those practising witchcraft that had “caused” many premature deaths and setbacks in the community.

Thereafter the rampaging mob thereafter pounced on them in a bid to force them to confess more details of their alleged atrocities.
It was gathered that the youths were specifically angered that the duo were allegedly behind the grave illness of a young house wife in the community, identified as Yelkon.

According to a source in the community, “Yelkon has been bedridden and seriously sick immediately after she gave birth and we learnt that her illness was caused by the two women who confessed to have ‘tied her’ in the coven and said she would be sick until she dies.”

But Police command in Bauchi said they have arrested four suspects in connection with the death of Ms. Michael, who is said to be aged 70.
The Command PRO, Kamal Mohammed told journalists that the suspects seized the deceased, Liyatu Michael, and another elderly woman whom they suspected of witchcraft in a house in the community ”and started beating them.”

“Report that reached the police indicated that on realising that one of the women had died, they took her lifeless body outside the room and dumped it in the backyard
“We have arrested four suspects in connection with the crime while some suspects are still at large.
“ The four suspects would soon be charged to court for culpable homicide.
He added that the police are making effort to arrest them and bring them to justice.''
