What the Royal Family Actually Eats in a Day

While one would assume that the royal family enjoys a rather exorbitant array of foods for each meal, the Queen's former chef Darren McGrady recently revealed that this actually was not exactly the case. McGrady served Queen Elizabeth II for 11 years until Princess Diana requested that he serve as her personal chef. He has also cooked for over 100 different kings, queens, and presidents, including President Reagan, President Clinton, President Ford, President George H. W. Bush and President George W. Bush.

The esteemed chef recently told WWD which foods the royal family favoured most—and some of them may not be quite what you'd expect.

Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen sticks to a "very disciplined" diet, which consists of four small meals a day. She usually opts for grilled fish with some salad, or another protein with greens, and she almost always avoids starches. The Queen also tends to be very frugal and preferred not to waste an entire fruit just for the sake of garnishing a dish. But one thing she did not hold back on was chocolate

McGrady revealed her favorite dessert is the chocolate biscuit cake.

Prince Philip

McGrady considered the Duke of Edinburgh to be quite the "foodie," noting that he loved to eat the organic foods grown from his garden. The Prince also enjoyed cooking venison tenderloins for the family while they stayed at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Princess Diana

The late Princess was the healthiest eater out of all the royal family, according to McGrady. She usually requested chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes while always avoiding red meats.

Prince William & Prince Harry

Unlike their mother, the two princes often indulged in unhealthy foods, even against their nanny's wishes. "The Princess just wanted them to be boys," McGrady explained.- Harper's Bazaar
