The common notion is that divorces are bitter and lead to hostility and acrimony, but more and more couples are proving it doesn’t have to be so malicious by sharing happy photos of themselves just after finalizing their divorce.
Divorce selfies are becoming popular over the past few years with couples taking to Instagram to share photos of their last moment together, and it’s becoming palpable this trend has come to stay.
One of such former couples who took divorce selfies are Shannon and Chris Neuman from Canada.
Shannon sent social media into frenzy when she posted a picture of her and her ex outside a Calgary courthouse, just minutes after finalising their break up.
The picture was shared more than 30,000 times before she had to make her Facebook page private. Sharing the photo on Facebook, she revealed that she and her ex-husband ended their marriage “respectfully, thoughtfully and honourably” and they plan to harmoniously co-parent their children.
“Here’s Chris Neuman and I yesterday after filing for divorce! But we’re smiling?! Yep, we’re kooky like that…We’re smiling because we have done something extraordinary (we think anyway!),” part of the caption read.
Another woman, with the username ‘blacktuesday74’, shared her divorce selfie with the caption:
“In front of the #boulder courthouse. Cheers to the rest of our lives, apart #divorceselfie.”
A gay man shared a selfie with his ex just after their divorce and told of how their judge was compassionate, told them that they were having a “fabulous divorce”, that she could feel their love and knew they were doing what is right for their daughter.
The divorce selfies follow the trend of divorce parties, where couples throw a party to mark their breakup. These couples seem really happy in the divorce selfies but whether or not they are happy in real life remains known by them alone…..See the photos below;
