The story of two teenage girls who lured their best friend from home and murdered her by stabbing her 50 times is examined in an episode of CBS crime series ‘Teens Who Kill’.
Skylar Neese, a student from Morgantown, West Virginia, vanished on July 5 2012 after she sneaked out of her parents home to meet her friends; Rachel Shoaf and Sheila Eddy.
Skylar was taken to a remote area by her two friends and repeatedly stabbed to death. Her body was then dumped and covered it with dirt. Her dad Dave Neese raised the alarm when he went to wake her up the following day and realised her bed had not been slept in.
Rachel and Sheila helped with the search for Skylar and even called her parents regularly to receive updates from the police investigation. Sheila, who had been friends with Skylar since she was a young girl, also posted a tribute on Twitter in which she said “you’ll ALWAYS be my best friend”.
This is the motive for the murder;
Skylar when alive had maintained a close relationship with Sheila from childhood, however, their friendship became strained when they met Rachel while at high school. She reportedly became angry to see her bestie and Rachel become close and allegedly witnessed them have lesbian sex at a sleepover. They feared that their secret would be leaked, so they decided to kill Skylar.
Six months later, Rachel decided to confess to the crime and led the police to the dead body. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison while Eddy admitted first-degree murder and is serving a 15-year term.
