Arsenal had been leading the chase to sign impressive Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette but the Frenchman could be stolen from under their noses if reports are to be believed.
According to L’Equipe (h/t the Mirror), Manchester United have held talks with Lacazette’s representatives recently regarding a potential summer transfer to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are believed to be closing in on the £70m signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid but a deal for the Spaniard is taking longer than hoped so they are lining up potential contingency plans, one of whom is Lacazette.
The 26-year-old scored 37 goals for Lyon last season and has been one of the most reliable and consistent goalscorers in Ligue 1 over the last three seasons.
Arsenal held fresh talks with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas earlier this week regarding the France international but no deal has been struck as of yet.
The Gunners seem willing to allow Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud to leave the club this summer so they cannot afford to miss out on a player of Lacazette’s quality, especially to Manchester United.
