Tottenham are close to completing a deal to sign German defender Jeremy Toljan, according to the Evening Standard.
The young German right-back has been subject to interest from Portuguese side Benfica, but it is reported that they have pulled out of the race for Toljan as they could not compete with the spending power that Spurs have.
The 22-year-old defender has been a regular for the German U21 national team and has only one year remaining on his current contract with Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
The price for Toljan has not yet been disclosed but it is expected to be a bargain deal as the German club don’t want to lose him for free next season so will most likely offload him for a cheaper price.
The defender was a key part of the U21 German squad which won the European Championships this summer, helping his side to only concede three goals in the entire tournament.
The youngster has also held down a place in the first team at Hoffenheim and started 14 times in the league last season while being used as a substitute six times.
